God they only said they wanted to compete with CoD not copy it! They want the same level of polish!
What there saying is, we are actually going to let them finish this one before we release it...
THAT?S A GOOD THING!
I find a lot of Russian (actually Ukrainian) games to have bad designed and poor polish smearing what could be greatness.
Bugs and broken difficulty curves (No I don't think they should make the games easier, work out a better difficulty curve not a fucking brick wall...) braking up any sense of emersion I tried to create in the fantastic atmosphere.

NO! no, no, no, no, no. CoD is a horrible example of a franchise - it ceased to become a series of games after WaW. Now it's just one boring yearly release after another - none of them are even worth buying unless you're a die-hard CoD fan or plan to make money off it. Metro 2033 was such an amazing game in terms of story, gameplay, and features (using bullets as currency was one of the better ideas of the past five years, IMHO) and turning it into CoD would completely ruin everything I like about the game.

I think it will be a improvement if the shooting mechanics are a bit more polished. They aren't trying to dumb it down into a military FPS like COD, but they are gonna try and make the combat more fluid and accessible for people whom are familiar with FPS games such as COD. Metro 2033 was a great game, and had a fantastic story/atmosphere, but I do agree that the combat was a bit...meh...at times. Hopefully the game improves on part of the extra cash being thrown behind it, as well as the extra help it will most likely be given for development. But as with some of the greatest films and games of all time, the backing of a bigger company or funds can totally F**k up the things that made the original so good.

Aren't they americanising it by changing the shooting mechanics to compete with CoD? I thought the whole point in Metro 2033 was you were just a survivor not Mr. Pop-a-cap McShooterson (or the Ukranian Equivalent).
I think that was just the flimsy rationalization people (myself included) used to justify what an unappealing shooting mechanic. "I'm just some dude who lives in a tunnel" I thought. "My weapon is made out of old subway parts and a three year old constructed my bullets" I would continue. I never got the impression that the game intentionally seemed a bit broken in this regard, it just seemed like a happy accident.

I wouldn't say that I still know that quite well. It stood out so much from every other review on the website that I can't NOT remember that review. What do you remember more normal work, or a weird event that is considered a freak event. Such as someone bringing a flare gun to a nerf gun fight.
I think you may have missed my point. Looking back over the comments, you didn't agree with the review either, but you're not tripping over yourself to insult me about it. I'm not saying that remembering the review after nearly a year is obsessive - if it is then I'm obsessive too, because I remember it very well - but saying things like "Yeah, I will die before I forget that abomination of a review," is a different matter altogether.
Ahhh fair enough, I missed that message in your prior comment.

Can't wait for 2034. '33 was great. Good to hear that they're putting more polish on it.
2033 wasn't partially great its only really good as pc benchmarking tool.

I enjoyed 2033. It wasn't too spectacular gameplay wise but it had an excellent setting and managing to sneak through most combat situations was very gratifying (though it took a lot of trial and error).
I'd be a bit more interested in an English release of the book. Has it even been translated yet?

Playing the original at the moment and news of the sequel is good. I bet you will have to take a DeLorean trip, to find a PC that can play it will full graphics settings though....

Urgh, I still haven't played 2033 yet, but I really want to. Downloading the demo right now, actually. Can't wait to give it a shot, and it definitely looks like one of the best shooters I've seen lately. I haven't been too interested in Call of Duty anyways.

I haven't read 2034 or 2033 for that matter, but i have played alot of 2033. it seems rather like a hard course to take from a message filled game like 2033 about just surviving, and infusing it with the normal spray and pray tactics in a CoD. My bet is on flop, but good luck. I love Eastern European games. It's all about the atmosphere

I loved 33'. If i could, i would be playing it right now. ((but the i couldent be posting on my favorite site))

It was ground breaking in the fact that ammo and money ((which are the SAME THING)) accually FELT limited. I mean, i played the hardest difficulty hardcore mode in FO:NV, but it still felt like ammo, caps, and healing were beyond common.

But in Metro, i could sit there for 5 minutes wondering if i should get an upgrade on a gun, or just buy ammo for it incase it was scarce later. And the starter weapon, the revolver, always was trusty! Like a real revolver.

I could sit here and gush like a school girl about this game all day. I cant wait to see the sequal.

One thing fans of Russian (actually Ukrainian) games don't want to see, however, is an overt Westernization of their franchises. Games like Cryostasis [http://www.amazon.com/S-T-L-K-R-CALL-PRIPYAT/dp/B002QE22DQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1297447052&sr=8-3] and of course Metro 2033 have their own unique flavor which emerges in large part from their bizarre plots and viciously unforgiving nature. Russian (actually Ukrainian) games really are different from their Western counterparts and Bilson said that's one thing THQ has no intention of changing.
And that is what I wanted to hear. Even the Westerizing of the names in Metro 2033 bothered me a little... :/
So THQ says, "We're gonna make sure the sequel actually WORKS." and then people freak out about the potential of americanizing it? What, only American's make things work well? This hardly seems news worthy from that perspective.

I hope they do make it better though. Metro 2033 sounded interesting to me (I LOVE post-apocalyptic settings), but when I heard how broken and bum-fuck-crazy hard it was, I shied away from it.
That is sort of the thing. STALKER and Metro 2033 are hard (haven't played Cryostatis much). They aren't like westernized shooters where you can take 3 rockets to the face and live while a shot with a 9mm to the foot will take down any enemy.

The only thing i'm wondering is where they'll go with the plot in the sequel.

I mean, they managed to translate the atmosphere from the book quite well in the game, but now they're finished with the book's setting, where do they go?
Metro 2034 is a book too, isn't it?

It's like trying to compete with the schoolyard bully. The only way to beat him is to play his way and ruin yourself in the process.

Polished yet Russian, I will believe it when I see it, and that might take a while since I've still gotta get around to playing the 2032 Metros prior to this one.
