No thanks Microsoft. I don't want a Kinect, never have done. If you let me buy and play the console without the Kinect then I'd be a little more forthcoming.

The 24 hour 'check in' thing doesn't bother me personally all that much but it's still annoying that it's there. It's pure DRM, because there are no real benefits to it.

And that used and shared game thing is gonna become annoying as hell I can tell. Do us a favour Microsoft and get your dicks out of our arses.

Useless crap and restrictions on my legal property. No thank you.
I say, good sir/madam, aren't you the person who said s/he has friends without an internet connection who have already pre-ordered this steaming bag of horseshit? Tell me, have you told them that they're spending $600 on a glorified DVD player yet?

OT: And here I was saying that it was silly of Microsoft to hide everything from us and make us assume the worst. At least that way there would have been doubt.

For crying out loud, I had to read that line about how apparently 'every Xbone owner WILL have broadband' five bloody times in order to comprehend the staggering level of stupid in that statement. It's just... what? What the FUCK?!

That's even dumber than claiming that the hardcore crowd will buy their console regardless of, I don't even know, anything. Even saying this statement makes sense because only people with a broadband connection will buy the damn thing is stupid. Sure, only anyone with at least SOME internet will buy the thing, and anyone without broadband who didn't do their homework will quickly give it back, but this line was supposed to address the fears that we would be stuck with a brick if we didn't have a reliable connection. Instead, Microsoft dismissed the issue entirely, like the aforementioned 'lol, hardcores will buy every console anyway' statement when we asked them why they were busy chasing people who couldn't can't even be labeled as CASUAL gamers. This statement, however, is like if the government dismissed any valid concerns over poverty, because (duh) 'everyone has well paid and stable job', even though they clearly bloody don't.

It's just... I don't even know what to say, the sheer contempt that MS shows for their potential customers that they should absolutely NOT be driving away, ESPECIALLY in this financial climate, just borders on self-hate and suicidal tendencies.

I seem to remember a joke on The Big Bang Theory TV series where Sheldon is punched by Bill Gates for suggesting that the Vista would have been better if BG wasn't busy helping starving kids in Africa. Well, it looks like the richest man in the world must be busy running around handing out bread to hungry MARTIANS to let all this blatant idiocy run amok without any intervention.

Finally, the Kinect. Your competitors used gimmicks to sell their consoles, but you had to use a gimmick that had ALREADY been proven not to work for shit in order to sell your console, even going so far as to force it for everything and raise motherfucking issues of PRIVACY, for Christ's sake. Need I say more?

Microsoft actually got someone to say clearly what they plan on doing?
In other news, low flying pigs cause havoc in the streets.

Guys! Don't worry! We'll still have access to our TV when the Xbox is offline! Also, access to our kitchens, bathrooms, girlfriends/boyfriends, cars, and oxygen. See? Microsoft has got our backs. They give us everything we need.

Microsoft has confirmed that the XBone will not land on Mars, not a single member of the Martian race wants one.

Every XBone user will have broadband because they are actively shafting the rest of the userbase.
Because Microsoft is trying to force their cloud computing down developer's and user's throats, they plan to make games that require it. As such, you basically have to have the same type of connection you'd need to play COD because you have to rapidly connect with their processing cloud computers and get the response back from them.

Thus welcoming the joys of unnecessary lagging and offline/overloaded servers to the world of solo gaming.

As to the rest. It is nice to know that we can control what leaves our Xbone. But I have several questions there. Will Microsoft force an update to our security settings at some point that resets the settings to default like Facebook has been known to do? During which time all the data will be sent anyways? Can we turn the kinect off WHILE playing games or watching media on the system? "Xbox off" sounds like they're just repeating that whole "you can turn it off if you deprive it of power".

They've really just confirmed most things. Though the used game is a combination of crappy and nice. On the one hand, you can share with people without actually giving them the game. On the other, they are fully allowing shenanigans with selling games back. However, as frustrating as that sounds, they are kinda side stepping several of the problems with getting rid of retailers in that games can still be loaned.

FYI, ""Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One." Assuming there are no catches, that's pretty generous."

How is that pretty generous? I purchased infFamous. I can give the disk to any of my friends or family members or dogs that own and play ps3s and they can just put it in the machine and play it. 100 people on one disk? Yeah. It'll probably be scratched beyond useable but it's my one license and only one person can play it. While I've never loaned a game to ten people without at least one of them "keeping" it, this basically removes ownership of the license.

And what do they mean by any game can only be given once? Is that the death of resale except for one to one giving?

Indeed. I was just pointing out how it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. Which itself was based on a misinterpretation of what Letalisk was actually questioning, but still.

In fact, their new technology smacks of "always online" no matter how much they protest it isn't. It's the EA model of naming a previously single-player title an MMO and using off-site computations to justify an internet connection as a necessity when allthey really want is control. "DRM? Noooooo...It's a SERVICE!"

Honestly, I think I'll be treated better as a PC gamer. I don't actually like Valve, but Steam looks like a much better service than this.

EDIT: I think you updated WHILE I was posting.

I THINK people are assuming (whether correct or not) simultaneous use by up to ten people. That would be something I can't do with a physical disc. Again, I don't know if this is accurate, but that's far more generous than we expect from digital er gaming.

In short, the bar has been majorly lowered.

Major Nelson?

This console's lack of magic disappoints me.

....I'm not nearly old enough to make a reference like that...

I guess the greatest punchline for this system is "I'm going to buy an Xbox One." Trololol.

Surprise, Microsoft enjoys making you do shit you don't want. Honestly, at this point, there's nothing nefarious going on anymore. There's no "great secret" and "evil business practices". You're smart enough, hell even a child is smart enough, to understand what Microsoft is trying to do. You have no one to blame but yourself if this console ends up in your home and when you realize that its not the product you wanted, no one will care for your complaints.

So I'm finally done with Xbox, I suppose it's for the best really. I've had a live account for too long and I feel I've spent enough money on things with poor resale value let alone none.

All Sony have to do is make a console with the freedom to choose and I'll buy it also no Kinect motion control nonsense would be nice too.

Sony can reduce it's marketing budget for the PS4, M$ has conveniently done half the work already.

Game developers can continue to expand their games after launch? Yeah, maybe some will, those who really care about the worlds they're making. But those making games for numbers alone? I highly doubt they'll do anything like that without charging for their DLC. What a load of hokum...
I'm sure he was referring to DLC.

How is this better than my super nintendo? Oh right prettier grass.

My SNES

1. allows me to lend my game to an unlimited number of family members or friends as many times as I want. And i don't have to register a "friends list" to do it.
2. allows me to sell my game to strangers without asking anyone's permission
3. does not require connecting to anything other than my television in order to play
4. does not require me to request that it doesn't spy on me (a request that can be reset anytime by the spymaster under the guise of "updating privacy options")

And the best part, when the XBOX TOO comes out in 4 years you can bet the servers will be shut down to "encourage" migration.

Enjoy your $500 doorstops fanbois.

That is it. I have 100% decided to boycott the Xbone, and will actively dissuade people from buying the Xbone and Live. I want to see the Xbone crash and burn in a desolate wasteland of non-profit.
Fuck you, Microsoft.

anyone who thinks sony will be any better is just naive
publishers will want this level of control, and Sony will be alienated if they dont do it. the just have better PR at this point

All Sony needs to do now is shoot a commercial in which people enjoy their PS4's at various locations, including a shot of a guy playing it in the middle of a desert next to a pair of crossed bones and a non-descript black rectangle sticking out of the sand.

you can play games or enjoy applications that use data, such as videos, photos, facial expressions, heart rate and more, but this data will not leave your Xbox One without your explicit permission.
At what point do you give your consent to this. Is it per application (like using a credit card) or is it like a service (Sony [PSN], Microsoft [Xbox Live], Valve [Steam] signing away your right to class action lawsuit).

Both require my explicit permission.
This sounds very tricksy. I think it'll come dowm to "Press A to sign away All the recorded data! Or the Xbox won't work..."

I also feel like "turning off" the Kinect is just disabling it's responsiveness to you while it silently watches. That sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory, but I don't think it's out of Microsoft's power (as long as you press A) or out of their business practices.
