Microsoft Addresses Xbox One Concerns

Okay, just so I'm aware then, can someone explain to me please (as I probably missed this part), what happens if my Xbox One (that I won't be buying any time soon) is plugged in to the ethernet cable in my house, and I go away on holiday for two weeks (so it's not switched on), and come back without having played any games because I've been out of the country? Would I be penalised for that, or would it count as having 'reconnected' and I'd be good to go again? Because that's my chief concern here, personally speaking (though in addition, I also appreciate that as Cracked have pointed out several times, even in the USA there doesn't exist such a thing as an always online broadband connection for almost anyone).

In addition, I can play my PS1 games that I bought 15 years ago today if I want to, on my PS2, provided the dsics aren't scratched to hell by now. Can Microsoft guarantee I'll be able to play Halo 5 in ten years time after they release the Xbox Two or whatever, or will they have shut down all the servers by then? Huh?

Guess I'm getting a PS4, then. I like being able to play games when my internet cuts out (which, you know, happens to most of us from time to time). So long, microsoft!

Bye bye, Xbox1, I hope you burn in hell.

What could possibly be the advantage to having all this crazy red tape and rules just to loan your buddy a game? And saying "you can turn the system off" doesn't address any privacy concerns about the Xbox when it's on. I don't want this thing. Everything they say just drives me farther and father away. Make Dark Souls 2 an X1 exclusive and I'll cry myself to sleep but I'm still not dealing with this shit.
It's because they want to own their customers' souls ;)

Think about THIS when deciding which console to get...

In 10 years, your ENTIRE Xbox One library can be permanently disabled because the online servers for the whole system will be turned off. You know how MMOs die when the servers go offline? Imagine that for your WHOLE system and library of games. Or if you get banned or have your accounted hacked. Everything lost, and no means of ever playing any of those games, new or used, ever again.

It's a system that will become a very expensive brick once Microsoft decides you need to buy the next system, so a switch flip later and everything is lost.

I don't give a shit about massive persistent worlds that evolve when I'm not playing. I can't imagine why I would. How the hell is this a selling point, anyway? "Stuff's happening when you're not around to see it! Radical, huh?"
while you may not be the one to like it, the MMO market is HUGE and sells tons of games.

Last time a blackout that didnt last more than a few minutes happened here was maybe, i dont know, 10 years ago?

Preowned games aren't that bad a thing. It's like McDonalds saying 'We're making money, which is good. But we could be making more than this so lets start charging customers who want to take a straw or napkin from now on'.
do you honestly believe they dont do that? :D :D :D

Well this isn't going to bite them in the ass..how much is an nVidia Titan again?
why comare it with titan? titan is stronger than any of the console coming out and its unfair comparison. a 430 would be closer perhaps.

Yeeeaaahhh, the actual announcement already sealed its fate with me in stone, but this is just ruining it even more. I dunno where they started going wrong when making this thing, but somewhere along the line, someone said "Let's keep fucking it up :3"

You know what, personally, I can live with this.

I know plenty of people won't be, and they definitely have good reasons for that, but my guess is that most of the problems that people will have with it won't affect me personally.

I know it might sound rather arrogant to say that, but I don't mean it to be, honestly.

Now all I personally need to know is what kind of games are coming out for it.
It is not arrogant, it is just the kind of attitude MS is counting on. People that don't care if their right as consumers go backwards because they are not too much inconvenienced.

Or people that will subject to inconvenience if the games are good.

That's fair, I guess, but somewhat sad at the same time.
yes...I really hope the consoles that adopt this die off quickly. I wish it would...damn consumers

While I've only barely kept up with their work (mostly when an article would pop up here) I am of the firm belief that Anonymous has a moral duty too ensure the microsoft servers are down for at least the first month after the release of this abomination unto the very concept of gaming.

In the name of the Master Chief, Marcus Fenix, and the Commander Shepard, the heresy of the Xbox One must be crushed!

Burn the Heretic! Purge the Mutant! Exterminate the microsoft filth!

Give us offline console gaming, or give us PC!

Heh, never mind the customers that might lose connection, I can't wait until a regions local authentication system goes down. "Oh we are sorry we just turned every xbone in the Midwest into a brick, we couldn't have possibly anticipated that big storm would impact our server house. As compensation, here is one month of X-box live at half price."

Either way, the decision has always been easy for me. I love my Gamefly account. No used games = no console for me.

There'll be no penalty. It won't even count as "Disconnected", because it was never on without internet access.

As for "Always On" broadband, I can't speak for the US, but here in the UK I've yet to have any outage that lasted a whole 24 hours.

They don't exist. "Every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection," Major Nelson writes
The fact that some countries struggle to have internet suddenly isn't the case? Well, glad places like Eastern Europe and parts of the Middle East now no longer exist. Thanks for committing financial suicide, I'll be cradling my PS4 I think now.

Edit:

A few times within the last three years I've been without internet for a day or two. Once for a week. I would of been driven absolutely insane without a games console to entertain myself with.

So, MS learned something from Sony's PR. "We'll let the publishers decide" - yeah, nicely played, guys.

But if they add sales, they'll offset everything. Just like Steam. And Valve's also calling it "licensing a game" not buying.
The only difference, if they add sales that is, is that Steam doesn't need to connect with their servers every 24 hours.

"Every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection," you mean to say "Every Xbox One owner WILL HAVE TO HAVE a broadband connection,". What ever happened to the good old days when you brought something, it was yours, forever, to use when you want, how you want. GAMES /= SERVICE o_O"
Don't you know you don't own anything anymore. You just keep renting your life away.

OT: This is really going to affect our service men who don't have constant online connections but rely on consoles as a huge stress relief during down time.
Wow, I hadn't even considered that. That's actually a really horrifying thought, as I know for some of these guys games are not just a form of stress relief, but are even therapy for what they are going through.

So, we're off the BFG-9000 to the face and into total protonic reversal? Gotcha.

Whelp, consider them xboned on this one, because anyone who buys it after hearing this can only be summed up in the following quotation:

"A fool and his money are soon parted."

You probably won´t, because a lot of games are probably going to rely on the cloud which means that some less popular games will be long offline before XboxOne is replaced.

I still struggle to see the positives with this machine. Okay, it´s cool that i can share games with 10 people (presumeably we can all play at the same time?) but the rest is just restrictions sold as "innovative features". And i can skype while i watch tv... Or watch tv while i play videogames, that´s just... Useless... I´m not interested at all.

Really, what does this thing do that Xbox360 doesn´t do better? Except for the games?
