Microsoft Denies Core Gamers Hated Kinect

Kinect is nothing more than a gimmick, and gimmicks don't tend to work well with actual games. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful piece of technology and for a gimmick, it's really innovative - but that's all. I had no problem with Kinect when it was just used for throwaway titles based purely around it, but I would be quite horrified if I saw it begin to be used for real games.

Needless to say, Microsoft's farce of an E3 presentation came close to bringing me that horror.

I love being spoken for.

I don't hate the Kinect for existing, but the likely hood of me running out to buy one so i can jump in front of my TV like a moron, is zero. This is probably because the games for it are a cesspool of pretend your playing sports games, and dancing games, mostly. Being primarily an RPG, Strategy and FPS fan, what some might perhaps call "core" gaming genres if they were feeling vague and lazy, I don't think the Kinect has experiences to offer me that I'd enjoy.

But really I didn't need to say any of that, did I? Anyone who thinks that "core" gaming demographics have not avoided motion controls is deluding themselves something awful. As for what people mean by a "Core" gaming demographic, the thought is a bit ambiguous, but i think we all know what they are driving at.

Oh c'mon! How else will I know what it's like to be a paraplegic Jedi who just waits for stormtroopers to trundle their way into my lightsaber?

I have the Kinect, and its a bit of fun for 20mins or so. What I don't want to see happen, is its mandatory use in core games such as Forsa, ME3 etc. Fortunately, I can't sever see that happening, so as far as I'm concerned nobody is missing out if they dislike the Kinect.

Oh yes! We all love Kinect!!!! We love to play it with the whole happy family!

In fact, I love it so much that I bought four of them, one for each of my limbs!
Yeah, you'd like to get more than one Kinect going to capture full 3D, but they work by putting out an IR grid and hence, interfere with each other.

I don't own a Kinect and if I did it would be to write or mess with hacks on the PC, not play any of the titles on the XBox.

I guess it depends on your deffinition of "core gamers". In my eyes there haven't been any core games for the kinect so core gamers don't love or hate it. They just don't care about kinect.

Kinect has a lot of potential, sadly all the development so far has just been remakes of shit I've already played on wii. I might buy one on if I ever see a good original game for it.

"I never really thought that core gamers were in any way hostile to Kinect," Tsunoda said. "People saying: 'Wow, we'd really love to have Kinect in the games that we love to play and the genres and types of games we like to enjoy,'... to me that's saying like, 'We really love Kinect, and we'd like Kinect to be in the experiences that we play regularly.'"

Tsunoda doesn't seem to be telling the whole story here, as you need only spend a few minutes on the videogame forum of your choosing to find core gamers who don't like the Kinect. Of course, it's entirely possible, and wholly likely if Tsunoda is to be believed, that they are just a very vocal minority. There are undoubtedly plenty of core games - myself included - who are at the very least intrigued by what motion and voice recognition might add to core games. The button less interface makes Kinect a difficult fit for some games, but used in concert with a controller - as with Mass Effect 3 - it could come into its own.

Someone smack him back to earth. I don't hate kinnect, but it really doesn't make sense for hardcore games. It will be near impossible to replace a controler with a kinnect, and literaly impossible to replace the good old mouse and keyboard with the kinnect.

I know that I'm not a terribly huge fan of Kinect. At least as a game peripheral.

He would have been correct if he was talking about the things people are modifying it to do because that I really enjoy seeing but as far as games go count me out.

Also judging on how poorly people are viewing Microsoft's conference I'd say that a lot of core gamers aren't terribly big fans of Kinect just yet.

well thank you for telling me what i like microsoft, i really appreciate it.

you know, marketing and PR is one thing, but outright putting words in my mouth? i honestly think those tasked with marketing the kinect are so cynical about their own product that they are doing their jobs sarcastically now; showing us shit and acting like its gold to the point of parody.

yet again i must state how kinect is moving gaming in the wrong direction; to a greater segregation of thought/action instead of less, not to mention having woefully less functionality than a standard controller. it has less to offer gaming than the wii, which is saying something.

count your losses and move on microsoft, you cant keep living in your fantasy world where the kinect is popular forever.

honestly i dont really see the point of voice commands, especially in a game like ME3 which is gonna have quite fast paced combat.

1) It takes a lot longer to say a phrase than push a button
2) Responsiveness would be an obvious issue as saying clear, audible phrases would probably be harder than it seems when thinking solely about shooting.
3)Yelling at your TV will be immersion shattering as well as the fact that your room mates will probably think you're a lunatic.

I will be only buying it if you can say 'Wrex get your ass out of my scope' and he moves.

When i see one single decent looking game for Kinect, I will care about it enough to maybe hate it. Until then I don't a flying fuck.

When will people learn that ANYONE who doesn't absolutely hate motion controls is not a core gamer?
