Problem with Kinect is the same problem with the hard Drive, not every Xbox owner has one so developers aren't keen on making grade 1 titles that use it because its going to cut out a lot of the userbase.

Essentially imo it was doomed before it was released, even if its a hit with the PC crowd

I think when he says "core gamers" he just means people who buy games, in which case he would be right, kinect has sold like crazy. Obviously, our version of "core gamer" are the people who buy a few games and play the shit out of them competativly.

They put more hours in, but they buy less games. Money talks.

I don't believe him. The response when ME3 was rumored to have Kinect support wasn't joyful, it was full of horror and anger. The majority of core gamers wanting the Kinect in all genres? Logan, I wouldn't really believe that. The creative director of a product that the company is pushing isn't going to say anything but positive things about his product.
I don't know how exactly to define what a hardcore gamer is, but my friends & I love Halo, Gears of War, & ME3, and we are anxiously awaiting ME3 with Kinect support. I was originally going to buy ME3 on PC, but the Kinect support puts it over the edge.

I can't speak beyond my circle of friends, but there's nothing shocking about people loving to shoot things in the face and also enjoying Kinect. It's a tremendous device; it just needs more creativity from the devs, which will come with time.

The internet typically represents the uber-vocal minority, so I would say the horror and anger is coming from a much smaller group than it appears. What with Kinect being the fastest selling consumer device and all.

Oh god no. I don't want Motion Controls getting in the way of my trying to play video games properly.

They are in denial. The core hates this thing, since its 90% useless.

I know I certainly don't give two shits about it.

Well, first of all we would need to know what his definition of core gamers is, maybe he is right and the Core gamers he is refering to love the kinect.

Let me be clear. I like the Kinect I just think that it doesn't have a future in gaming. It's got a ton of other applications it's just not really for gaming.

Kudo, you are wrong. The kinect is doing what I was afraid it was going to do, and thats pull a majority of their focus towards it, and away from games without it. The last two conferences are proof of that. If they could balance the two evenly, that would be fine, but they are not.

Motion controls for gaming is gimmicky bullshit that robs games of development time that could be used for other, better features. Kinect is good for all it's neat applications that ARE NOT gaming.

I still can't decide which I hate more, terrible 3D movies/gaming or motion controls.

Microsoft has stuck it's fingers in its ears singing nananannananananananana because they want to convince themselves and the public that this crap will stay popular.

Read "Microsoft" as "Minecraft" again... gotta stop doing that.

Well I'm a core gamer who happens to own a Kinect and about 75% percent of the games on it... and I hate it.

honestly i dont really see the point of voice commands, especially in a game like ME3 which is gonna have quite fast paced combat.

1) It takes a lot longer to say a phrase than push a button
2) Responsiveness would be an obvious issue as saying clear, audible phrases would probably be harder than it seems when thinking solely about shooting.
3)Yelling at your TV will be immersion shattering as well as the fact that your room mates will probably think you're a lunatic.
Things to consider...

1) It may take longer to say a phrase than push a button, but you can say a phrase WHILE you are shooting. If you want your squadmates to change weapons or use any of their full abilities with a controller, you need to stop shooting, open a radial menu (dpad only lets you hotkey ONE), and THEN hit a button. Longterm, the voice control will speed the game up for me, as I will be pausing a LOT LESS.

2) For the most part, Kinect has read my natural speaking voice exceptionally well, even with noise in the background. I don't have to over-enunciate very often, and I don't imagine the concentration required to say the phrases will be a distraction at all. If we can hold conversations while driving, this is a non-issue.

3) Screw roommates.... my wife loves the story behind Mass Effect, but hates actually playing games. This way she can sit on the couch and read a book while I shoot things, and then engage directly with the interface when conversations come up, no controller necessary. This one feature is going to SAVE my marriage when ME3 comes out. XD

Given that Bioware was able to practically turn-key the implementation (Kinect does all the heavy lifting), I love them for adding this. Giving me new options for playing the game? YES. Ye Gods, YESSSS!

Kudo is mistaken methinks.Gamers don't hate Kinect, they just hate the fact that Microsoft are putting all the emphasis on Kinect at the expense of everything else. That E3 presentation was painful to watch for people like me i.e non-Kinect owners who have no interest in buying one

Why would they admit it?

Microsfot have shown, time and time again, that they will lie to the public, even after it's proved to be a lie. Look at most of the Vista advertising campaign.

Sorry, Kinect is a very useful thing...but no-one's using it for making games better.

Kinect has loads of many wonderful applications!

None of which provide a good gaming experience.

So, yes, I hate the thing. Kinect simply doesn't work for games more complicated than the type of thing I saw on the EyeToy several years ago.

Don't put words in my mouth Microsoft.

I wont buy one simply because I dont want to flap around to play a game. Far too much like excersise for me. I'll stick to controllers, thanks. By the way, microsoft, I am a core gamer.

Well, I guess he's right. I don't actually have anything against Kinect. I just hate how they waste E3 yakking about it and how it has absolutely nothing I want to play. And then their big draw to core gamers is "You can talk to Mass Effect 3" Oh boy, $150 for that! Hey, guess what? Pass. Sticking with the controller is faster and more reliable than talking to my game.

You see, Kinect might not be great now, but think what will happen when developers know what to do with it. There is so much potential and people are acting as if the Machine is cursed.

Gamers said exactly the same for the Wii, while sure it isn't the best system it eventually showed it was anything BUT a gimmick. Something that the WiiU will Probably do as well, but better.

I'm in no rush to get one, and hey i may never get one, but looking at the games that are coming out for it, Kinect may prove all of us wrong.

I like the whole pushing to core games that Kinect is doing. I do like Kinect, its fun for a while, and I use it every time I watch Netflix. I look forward to using it with Ryse and that other horror game, whatever its called. Also, I like the idea of it being optional, like for instance, GRAW, or ME3. Voice commands worked well in Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 & 2, though it did always make me feel like a moron.

Buttons.
Reliable, simple, fast, precise.
Open inventory? Button.
Shoot guy? Button. Or trigger, both are nice.
Smash face? Button! Fuck yeah!
Jumping? Motherfucking button!
All while sitting, or even lying down, and being lazy and pwning like a badass.

Why would I trade that for something slower, less reliable, that has no physical feedback, and that I have to stand up and... fucking MOVE to even use at all?
That the opposite to what a core gamer would want.
