I get what they're saying, and I agree. They're saying it can be as well known, not as good as or better than. I think that's possibility. Star Wars will be better, but Halo will be close to as common, at least compared to other runners in the category of such fame.

And I do not consider Halo cliched BECAUSE Halo defined the cliche. Space marines were around, but Halo was one of the early runners and we'd all think they were raving nuts if they dropped the act after the first Halo.

If I am wrong about the halo bit, please cite games that came before it, and I mean like Gears of War and Mass Effect have space marines, games we know, not cheapo knock offs no one knows. I am genuinely intrigued to know.

Halo is popular to the frat boy demographic. You can say a lot about those kind of people, but saying people who didn't like Halo are as intelligent as someone with chunks of brain missing makes you look...well, like someone with chunks of brain missing.
Well, don't tell MENSA then... because they'd feel terrible about mistakenly shoving all that literature at me if they found out I actually enjoy the Halo series.

I think you misunderstand. I'm not saying people who play Halo are stupid. Nor was I implying that.
Just because you're not the target audience doesn't mean you may not enjoy the game.
Secondly, I just said that "saying people who don't like Halo are as intelligent as lobotomy patients is stupid." - Paraphrase.
Also, I'm pretty sure there's a pornstar in MENSA.
Just a fun fact.

If you mean make three perfectly good games, and then follow up with three crappy underwhelming prequel games, then yes; Halo will be like Star Wars.

Keeping in mind that I'm going to be VERY biased here. I've worked for the big video game franchises and have had this discussion before. I love Star Wars, and I hate Halo with a passion. Ok, granted, good games. But at this point I'm ready for the Halo franchise to die and take its fanboys with it. I'm actually almost offended that someone would assume it could be close to Star Wars. (Ok, maybe the prequel series...maybe.)I'm sorry guys, you put Master Chief against Vader(or the Apprentice for that matter.)and Master Chief will be dead inside that armor before he can utter "I need a weapon." See? Like I said, biased. But then I've had too many good parties ruined by groups of dickheads turning it into another boring Halo wank fest. Halo could NEVER be close to (the original) Star Wars.

I tell you what, it would be interesting to see how Halo's central concept of 12-year-olds tea-bagging corpses would translate to the big screen.

Like that's going to happen. Games won't ever hit the same universal appeal that a film will. So this just seems to be more egotism from Microsoft...

Our movie standards are too high now. There's no way a Halo movie can capture a generation like Star Wars did.

This whole thread insults my entire existence.

Sure, I'm not a Halo fan, but I won't badmouth it.
But THE NEXT STAR WARS.

Is anyone forgetting that STAR WARS IS THE NEXT STAR WARS.

My frustration is affecting my caps lock.

Halo is as cliche as you can get.
oki note that many games copy halo as hell, i would more say that halo has created a cliche.
And due to the Internet we will never have another Star Wars thingy cuz every1 gets a free voice and therefore have to blast everything down like hell and talk about the things of the past (star wars the good parts) as heaven
Sorry for double post but Halo has stolen so many things from previous FPS titles that IT IS the cliche.

Are people going to remember Star Wars in 10 years? Defiantly. Are they going to remember Halo? Maybe, but it's never going to reach the Star Wars plateau. I also highly doubt people will care about Halo at all after 50 years (provided no world ending wars happen).

Yeah, I'm going with no. I'm a huge Halo fan and I enjoy it more than I enjoy Star Wars but that's just one dude's opinion. There is no way what started as a game could ever beat out Star Wars. Doesn't matter that it has six books to it's name or a movie(should it ever happen... *eye roll*). Games don't get to be that popular.

You also have to remember that the vast majority of us probably saw Star Wars when we were young. Things that we love when we're kids have a lasting affect on us as adults. I'll never tire of Star Wars. Something I see now like, oh let's say, Lord of the Rings, for example, won't have that same lasting feeling. In twenty years I'm still going to love both series' but really, when I get together with my friends, is LotR going to come up that often? It's not because it wasn't engrained in me as a child.

Halo doesn't appeal to exactly the same people that Star Wars does. My dad enjoys Star Wars but you'd never catch him watching me play a game of Halo and I guarantee he won't have any interest in seeing the movie like he did with episodes I, II and III.

In the end, all a matter of personal opinion: Which do you like more. Me? Halo. On a cultural level, however, no. Never more popular. Not with our generation anyway.

I think Halo could be turned into a pretty good movie but I doubt it could become the next Star Wars.

Honestly, i think halo compares more to the old Planet of the Apes. they aren't half bad, and lots of people loved Planet of the Apes, but i'm not sure how well it compares to star wars.

I don't think halo has the fanbase, expansive as it is, to make it. In the world of video games, it will probably be remembered. I don't think anyone will forget it. However, it is just a videogame, which, unlike films, really doesn't reach the same audience, and it just doesn't penetrate enough of the people of the world. The only way to do this is to find a way to bring Halo to everyone.

Personally, I don't think they mean to follow Halo in the strictest sense. I can see Halo climbing up there if they play their cards right. The Halo lore is VERY expansive, and I think it extends more than people realize.

If you want to do a coming of age story like star wars, it wouldn't be beyond the reach of Halo. Quite a few of the characters (the Master Chief included) did not start out as the epic super soldier we all know (and some love). he was a kidnapped 6 year old boy, and from the books, such as "Fall of Reach", we see John-117 learning quite a few life lessons. I could see the story of the young Spartans, and the very begginning of the Human-Covenant war coming in near the end of the movie.

And thats if you want to follow the master chief. There are really so many other characters out there. Hell, i think you could even just toss the current characters and start from scratch with a new one. Enough things go down in Halo's overall time line that you could make endless storys and plots from all the different events and foot notes in halo. You really just need the right creative mind. Microsoft already has the money and the marketing epic-ness, I really think that something great can be made from Halo.

To be realistic though, after Halo wars (and whatever Peter Jackson is working on) is over, I'm not sure we will see more of Halo. I do honestly think Halo is at the end of it's lifespan as far as new games go, and i don't expect to see more (especially after Bungie is closing out halo with "ODST"). I strongly suspect Gears of War will be the new "halo".

Wow 1st the Lancer will be the next Light Saber now Halo will be the new Star Wars.
I really don't have much to say.... Well actually I do but I think a mod would get pretty pissed at me for it.
