Finding out John DiMaggio voiced Wakka just now. W.T.F?! I cringed every time Wakka (or Rikku or Tidus) opened his mouth in FFX. No, I won't believe it. John DiMaggio didn't do that role; he can do no wrong!

Before that, finding out that the voice of the Joker from the 90s Batman Animated series (and Arkham Asylum/City) was Mark Hamil. I reacted thusly: "Mark Hamil? Not the Mark Hamil, right? Not the guy who played Luke Skywalker, just someone with the same name? Same guy? Are you trying to trick me into looking it up on IMDB?" I had to actually see a clip of him doing the voice before I believed it.

He alters his voice so well, and that laugh...my god. Best Joker ever IMO.
Mark "Will Voice Act For Food" Hamil? Yeah, check out his resume. It's shocking what he can do with his voice.
I've actually looked at his acting credits and watched or played some things just for his parts. I've yet to find one that I can imagine saying any line from Star Wars. Seriously, just try to imagine the Joker saying, "I'm a Jedi, like my father before me."
True, that is funny, and weird. Joker and Harley had a much better chemistry than chuckle nuts and the very hot Natalie Portman though.

This thread also had me thinking about the voice actor revelations that don't blow my mind. There are some voices I instantly recognize, no matter what character they're playing or what medium. Coincidentally, all of them have a kickass voice.

-Jennifer Hale
-Tim Curry
-Ron Perlman
-Keith David
-Tricia Helfer

There are several others, but those are the ones off the top of my head.

Try arguing with people that he's a better Joker then Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger. *Le Sigh*

and Kevin Conroy is the only true voice of Batman to me.
I've discussed it with friends. I know it comes down to personal preference, but I can't see how anyone can call Ledger's Joker the best. To me he was pretty forgettable. And totally, totally agree on Kevin Conroy. He was also a good Bruce Wayne - or at least good Bruce Wayne public persona.
I actually thought Nicholson did the most forgetable performance. He just kept playing a gangster.... though that "He's Using Brand X" line did make me laugh.

Ledger's Joker was great, but it's overhyped by his death, and it's just not a complete set with out Harley Quinn.

Raven, Timmy, Dill, Bubbles, Terrence.

Oh and I like FiM so that just puts the icing on the cake, MORE TARA :D
Yes yes, also Rikku from FF10, and Sari from Transformers Animated.

But that is nothing, and I'm kinda shocked it hasn't been said yet.

You justfound out that John Dimaggion is the greatest voice actor ever?
Wrong.

None of them holds a candle to Tara Strong.
Incorrect.

Time to end the thread with the One Name to Rule Them All for voice actors.

Frank...

Welker.

He's been dominant in the business longer than your Tara Strongs and Jimmy Yang Boschs have been alive. And he's STILL working his ass off. I mean, hell, Fred? He's the first, and CURRENT voice of Fred in Scooby Doo. That's WAY more important and influential than your John DiMaggios or your Keri Wahlgrens or your Cree Summers or your Venus Terzos or your John Kayes or your Scott McNeils or any other name you can mention that's only been doing notable roles for a decade.

Bring up some Cam Clarke (aka James Flinders) or some Rebecca Forstadts (tho her voice makes me cringe with Lynn Minmei-ism) or some Michael McConnohies or some Amanda Winn-Lee or some Wendee Lee, or some Susan Blu...

Most of the names you guys mentioned are young turks, hardly classics.
Kevin Conroy voiced the God Damn Batman. Your argument is invalid. #BATLOGIC

I found out a while back that Jesse McCartney voices Roxas and Ventus from Kingdom Hearts.

I was like: WAT.

Also, Lan Hikari, from the MMBN universe (whom Japanese name originates from the term: "Rock", roll with me here) was voiced by the same dude which voiced Rock from Black Lagoon!

BEST. COINCIDENCE. EVAR!

Lets see, what else....

Oh! I'm still trying to accept the fact that ol' Luke Skywalker is The FREAKIN' JOKER!

Every time I hear that crazy clown speak, I keep thinking: "this is the same guy who played Luke. WOW. Now that's voice range there folks!"

This was a revelation for you? Steve Blum is one of the most easily recognisable voice actors around imo, but ymmv I guess.

I guess the most memorable revelation for me was when I realised Mark Hamill voiced Fire Lord Ozai in ATLA. Everyone knows he's the Joker, of course, but Ozai doesn't get so many mentions.

I was watching Katey Sagal play Gemma Teller on Sons of Anarchy and I sat there thinking 'damn she's familiar... Holy shit! That's Leela's voice!' Being Leela from Futurama. Love both the shows.

He was also the voice of Fire Lord Ozai from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

EDIT: Alyson Stoner was the voice for Kairi in Kingdom Hearts and is the voice of Isabella in Phineas & Ferb.

I was blown away when I found out that Michael Fassbender, aka Magneto from X-Men: First Class, voiced Logan in Fable 3. I... I don't want to rebel against you anymore, Logan. You are Magneto. Can we be bestest best friends forever now?

Yeah. I could never kill anyone with a voice that awesome.

____

Oh, I was also thrown when I found out that the same guy that voiced this guy:

also voiced this guy:

as well as this guy:

and also:

...and apparently, unfortunately:

EDIT: Oh, looking at his IMDb page, the guy also apparently did the voice of the Prince from the Prince of Persia games. Goddamn.

This. She's EVERYWHERE!

To add another one people might not know, Jesse McCartney (former boy band member and crappy pop singer) was Roxas in Kingdom Hearts 2.

Wow. I can just imagine that conversation on the Dev team.

Dev 1: "Okay, now all we need is a Mexican voice actor and we are all set!"

Dev 2: "I have been meaning to talk to you about that. Steve Blum offered to do the voice acting."

Dev 1: "What!? You mean we have to choose between a Mexican character being voice acted by an actual Mexican or having Steven Blum make sweet love to our ears!?"

Dev 2: "Yeah, Pretty much."

Dev 1: "Argh....must...choose.....okay, hire Blum."

I remember finding that Laura Bailey voiced:

Isara from Valkyria Chronicles, who is a somewhat timid yet very smart engineer who is also very kind and generous.

At the same time, she also voiced:

Shin Chan, a loud and obnoxious little kid who is rude, dimwitted, and crude. (At least that's how Adult Swim portrayed him)

Boy, talk about contrasts.
Did you know she also voiced lust? [spoiler/] lust is awesome
Tara strong is an awesome voice actor and one of my all time favorites. Raven FTW

John dimaggio did this [spoiler/]
and did this [spoiler/]
I got a lot of them

Frank Welker also did a lot of vocal sfx work for the DCAU. Basically, if you've heard an animal growl or any sort of vocal effect in anything ever, it was probably Frank 'Soundwave' Welker. He's been in more Batman aninated series than Kevin Conroy.

Fact is, if you've seen Batman The Animated Series, yeah, Kevin's done some good work. But... that's it. If you've ever seen a cartoon at all in the past thirty years... Frank's done something in it, from the obvious Megatrona and Freds to the subtle vocal effects and animal noises.

Dude was Station and the Devil in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, the voice of Catwoman's cat in Batman, Odie from Garfield... and he's been doing this for YEARS. The only stuff he doesn't get his fingers in are anime dubbing, and the stuff done by Ocean Park in Vancouver. Everything else probably has his fingers in it somewhere.

MONKEY FROM DEXTER'S LABORATORY!

Nibbler from Futurama!

Seriously the hardest working man in the business.

I was surprised at all the people I recognized in Mass Effect 2, especially Adam Baldwin playing Kal'Reegar, a marine dude who only shows up for a little bit. (You get to choose whether he dies or not :D)
