It's a good thing all my windows are on the second and higher floors.

I need an arrow trap now...

Scariest part.

Last weekend, I started working on a new mob because I was frustrated with the slow progress on some town code I was writing, and for some reason I decided to make yet another creepy one.

I would assume this will make the game a lot scarier, but no doubt Notch has taken balance into consideration too. Whatever happens, it certainly won't do the game any harm in terms of fun

How can you be scared off something that looks like a square and 4 pieces of spaghetti? "Real" Slenderman, fair nuff. But this? Looks like shit ;( Notch should really move it out of java and get this dude to make the models http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDoaSO9nxUQ
I fear you've rather missed the point of the Minecraft aesthetic.

Dont add it. Its too creepy for this kinda game, though I like the idea of something that moves blocks. Maybe make it into a neutral mob that build houses?

Too creepy for a game that spends the first hour with you in a hole going "THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING THE ZOMBIES ARE COMING", and spends the rest of it alternating between building things and being in a DEEPER hole going "THE CREEPERS ARE COMING THE CREEPERS ARE COMING THE CREEPERS ARE COMING"?

Nah. Nothing's "too creepy" for that.

With the possible exception of Herobrine, who, ironically enough, was a (mythical) neutral mob that built houses.

Fun fact: /v/ is petitioning Notch to change the name to "Farlanders", because it's currently too close to "Slenderman" (???).

Notch has since stated that he'd rather change "The Far Lands" (Google it) to "The End" rather than change the new creature's name.

Ah yeah, more scary at night. It good ya!

But I always thought skeletons were the scary mob not creepers.
I think people are misunderstanding the creeper's name. I would think it's named a creeper because it "creeps along", not because it's creepy. That thing is so damn silent that it creeps up on you if you have your back turned long enough.

Hence, "creeper".
Many swear up and down that the creeper is the scariest mob but whenever I hear the skeletons bow twang (especially inside) I jump like three feet from my chair. The creeper will make me flinch, sometimes.

So to answer your kind-of-directed-at-me post; Most of my friends (who play Minecraft) say the creeper is the most disturbing creature of the night. I disagree. I say its a certain bow wielding fiend.

Thats all I was saying.

OK OK just calm down everything will be fine, all i have to do is make a giant castle on top of a large plateau and NEVER LEAVE... crap
Don't forget to light it well... we wouldn't want Endermen spawning in there, having you wake up to the cold, dead eyes of a three-meter monstrosity, would we?

(No conclusive news on its spawn requirements, or if it can survive daylight.)
Oh, they survive daylight, alright, they get frenzied and unkillable in the sun.

I'd have to say I think it is a grand idea. Something that is scary and creepy and not just startling. Creepers and Skeletons are great for making the night feel dangerous and now we have something that will add to that. I hope the monster encounter rate doesn't go up though. It might end up feeling to bombarding at that point if your constantly fighting off monsters and even sometimes two at once. I do wonder if there will be any limit to what blocks they can move. Like could they just walk up to your house and start pulling it apart?

I'll be interested to see what they actually do with the blocks they move... do they actually build anything? do they reconstruct your buildings? or do they just randomly move ordinary blocks around (boring).

If thats the case I can see myself making a few castles with triple thick walls and lava moats...
