exactly what i was thinking as i watched it.
If someone walked up to me and said "what if there was a game like minecraft except in 2D" I wold kindly ask them what kind of drugs they were on. After watching the video it doesn't look like they were on anything but *puts on sunglasses* The minecraft bandwagon (yeahhhhhh!!)
Please... Please don't ever ever do that again..

Just a little video a came across for a new game called terraria, it's almost done and looks like a 2d version of Minecraft. The worlds are randomly generated and it's more focused on combat.

What do you guys think after watching this vid?
http://terraria.org/
looks like a crappy version of minecraft. ill stick to the Minecraft.

Doesn't do much for me. Part of the appeal of Minecraft (for me anyway) IS the 3d nature of the gameplay. That extra dimension makes it much more interesting t me. Also the graphics here just don't appeal to me.

"Dig, fight, explore, build! Nothing is impossible in this action-packed adventure game. The world is your canvas and the ground itself is your paint. Terraria is coming soon!"

i bet there is stuff you actually cant do, thats false advertising.

personally i think this game looks kinda boring, for example a first person perspective game is more often than not more immersive than a side scrolling game, the fact that the combat is "better" or "there are more enemies" doesnt matter, you can see them coming a mile off, and it spoils the shock of bumping into them.

also, its just a blatant rip-off really, and im inclined to hate it from day one.

Oh wow, it's like Minecraft in 2d!
Why not just play Minecraft?
There are many reasons that a 2D Minecraft might be preferable to a 3D one, and vice versa. Personally I'd love a 2D Minecraft.

Edit: Just watched the video and it looks nothing like Minecraft :/ Why people are calling this a rip-off is beyond me. It does take a few mechanics from Minecraft but atleast it innovates upon them rather than just being a carbon copy like the 10+ other Minecraft rip-offs.

The game looks great, might even be better then minecraft for those of us that like combat more. It also looks like you might level up and/or gain more max stars along the way.

Tons of questions about it though and I don't see anything but the one trailer video on the website.

Can you enjoy the game solo? Those bosses look like they were made to fight with multiple characters for instance.

Is there a leveling system? Different weapons etc to fight with?

How does crafting work etc.

Tons of stuff that would need to be answered. A demo of the game would also be very useful although the trailer does make it look worth playing. Still really need to have more information.

Wow.. Minecraft isn't even finished yet and people are already trying to rip it off... And failing.

Honestly this game looks incredibly boring compared to Minecraft.

More enemies, better combat, npcs, and more... maybe you should watch the vid before you start blindly hating hit.
I have watched the video. I can confirm it looks, and this is the technical term, "fucking pointless". Especially when you can run Minecraft using some pubic hair, a rock, and a hamster running in a wheel.

Isn't Minecraft technically a generational step ahead of this game? It looks like the game Minecraft evolved from, like Mario evolving from the first Mario game into his current 3D iteration.

That said, I don't see much point in playing it, as it seems kinda boring to me.

Looks okay, not quite Minecraft good but it may be fun to play. I'll check it out once it's actually out there.

If I can manage to put up with Minecrafts graphics then this game will be no problem but I'm doubting it's gonna be as creepy since the caverns don't appear to be dark at all.

This whole thread is making me a little suspicious. I mean that Mr Jones guy has posted a zillion times and even quoted my same post twice.

It's also not like the Escapist to immediately shun a game like this. Everyone seems to be treating it as though it's an actual 2D Minecraft rather than just sharing similarities. I'm sure I never saw this much hate for the actual rip-offs like FortressCraft and whatnot.

It's not supposed to be creepy....
