Minecraft-like game, except 2d!

I sorta figured this was going to be a thread made to give more ups to Dwarf Fortress - (by Bay 12, freeware, CHECK IT OUT) -...

As a Minecraft "competitor" Terrania looks... not as good as minecraft. As a 2d platformer/builder/rpg/action/exploring game, it looks pretty swell. Reminds me of Liero meets Castlevania in a good way.

I'm surprised all the Minecraft, DF and etc fans can't bury the hatchets they're carrying for each other and all mutually hate Fortress Craft:

Isn't Minecraft technically a generational step ahead of this game? It looks like the game Minecraft evolved from, like Mario evolving from the first Mario game into his current 3D iteration.

That said, I don't see much point in playing it, as it seems kinda boring to me.

strictly speaking, no. You COMPLETELY overshot what I was trying to say. I never referenced New Super Mario Bros., I specifically said "The first Mario game".
New SMB has many features and details that make it an enhancement over it's predecessor. I can't speak for it directly, since I only played it for about 20 minutes, but I can imagine it has many features Super Mario 64 didn't have, and vice-versa.
Yes there are games that are on the same level, but you'd be kidding yourself if you said there wasn't a definitive scale of evolution.

Besides, what with the hostile feedback? You asked "what do you guys think?" and I replied with what I thought. Why did you instantly shoot me and my opinion down? I was just saying what I thought.

Terraria has many features that minecraft doesn't have, and vice-versa.

Wow.. Minecraft isn't even finished yet and people are already trying to rip it off... And failing.

Honestly this game looks incredibly boring compared to Minecraft.

Hell, they already were [http://fortresscraft.com/]. The only defense I've managed to hear for the game in that link existing is that Minecraft ripped off Infiniminer. That's it.

The 3 people with low post counts and no avatar (and not including the OP) all love it.

This whole thread is making me a little suspicious. I mean that Mr Jones guy has posted a zillion times and even quoted my same post twice.

It's also not like the Escapist to immediately shun a game like this. Everyone seems to be treating it as though it's an actual 2D Minecraft rather than just sharing similarities. I'm sure I never saw this much hate for the actual rip-offs like FortressCraft and whatnot.

Because at least FortressCraft was on the 360 so there was kind of a viable reason for its existence.

As I said, you could run Minecraft on a banjo, nail clippings, and a chunk of foreskin, so why you'd bother with a 2D version (virtually every feature is a rip) is beyond me.

Well my PC can't run Minecraft and I know a lot of other people who can't run it.

That game isn't a 2D Minecraft either, it's a 2D platformer with similar mechanics. I saw tons of stuff in that video that aren't in Minecraft and it's not even released yet.

It might not necessarily be good but seriously what's with the kneejerk reactions today.

Wow your pc must be bad then mine is from, like 04 with the oldest specs ever, and i can run it somewhat.

Mine's from 2001 and I can run it fine, albeit with the occasional crash. I assumed a graphing calculator could run it.

Too all the people who say that this game rips off Minecraft, Minecraft was heavily based off a previously existing game called infiniminer. You can only really say on game rips off another if it appears to be nothing more than a reskinned version of it's predecessor, so to say a game that removes an entire dimension and adds a bunch of other features is a "rip-off" is a bit of a leap.

It looks like old-school Mario and minecraft had a baby 0.o...

Looks fun, but the graphics and UI bar make it look like somebody took minecraft and tried to make it as different as possible, while still keeping the same roots in order to attempt to cash in on minecraft's popularity. It still looks like a good game, but the same time I'm thinking it's trying to ride in on minecraft's coattails.

I'm gonna keep my eyes on this one looks like it could turn out to be good. Probably not as addicting for me as Minecraft considering that I didn't see much building. But if I get bored of Minecraft this looks like it could entertain me for awhile.

Looks okay, not quite Minecraft good but it may be fun to play. I'll check it out once it's actually out there.

If I can manage to put up with Minecrafts graphics then this game will be no problem but I'm doubting it's gonna be as creepy since the caverns don't appear to be dark at all.

Watch the LP's. They give you a better idea of what the game is like, progression, etc. The caverns are pitch black fyi.

Honestly I'm kinda confused by the comments in this thread. It looks boring, and it's a minecraft ripoff? Looks a hell of a lot more action packed than minecraft to me. How does that translate to boring? I see more enemies, weapons, locations, and action than minecraft has with all the building potential (although in 2D). Does 2D really turn everyone off that much? I think it looks great. Albeit the animations look rough, but it's also in alpha.

More intense combat is something I've always wanted in minecraft. The damn mode is called survival, yet, a mud hut is all you need to survive. If all you want to do is build, why didn't you just keep playing minecraft classic or play peaceful? I barely see a reason for playing off peaceful anymore. The mobs are more annoying than any real threat, even on hard. I can only make so many castles/towns/train stations before my brain starts to melt.

It's like minecraft tried to tap into the adventure crowd, but stopped halfway. This game fills the gap imo. I'd like to play it. Then again, I wouldn't have minded if FO3 was a top down isometric so 2D really doesn't bother me. I also think the new super mario was a better game than mario galaxy so meh.

I just hope the adventure mode that Notch said was planned is nearly as intense. Unfortunately he said there probably won't be building, unlike this game, which would be a mistake imho. This game looks like how that mode should play, but in 3D.

Calling this game a rip-off is like calling COD a rip-off of MOH just because MOH came first. Bullshit.
