Mirror's Edge Sequel May Still Be Running

It looks like the sequel to Mirror's Edge [http://www.amazon.com/Mirrors-Edge-Playstation-3/dp/B00149ND28/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1297966699&sr=8-2] may not be quite as canceled as we thought.

Swedish site Press2Play.tv reported EA DICE [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107732-EA-Reportedly-Cancelled-Mirrors-Edge-Sequel] chief Patrick Söderlund said the game was close to his heart but hadn't sold very well, so the sequel had "stalled" and the people working on it had been reassigned to other projects.

Today, however, things have taken on a bit of a different tone. An EA rep said in a statement sent to Twitter [http://www.1up.com/news/mirrors-edge-2-development-stopped], writing, "Fascinated how serious game media sites can stir up an article based on rumor milling, loose quotes and assumptions."

It was also noted in the original reported that Söderlund said in an interview with a different Swedish site that EA was very much interested in making a sequel and that despite the difficulties with the first game, it still felt the franchise was worth supporting.

It's not a definitive statement that we'll be seeing more of Faith in the future, but the simple fact that it's not as dead as we were led to believe is good news for fans of the franchise. Mirror's Edge was far from perfect but it was pretty damn good, and I'd love to see EA take another run at it.

This is great news. Mirror's Edge premise has a lot of promise and I really want to see what they can do with a sequel.

Crisis averted i say.

Just one more day later then EA would be doing the Running.

This is good news. I'm glad to see that they're still willing to support things like this even when it isn't likely to be a huge hit.

This game does deserve a sequel, hopefully with better level design.
I'm thinking more open-world hub. The idea of being able to free-run like that around an entire city, doing runner missions and freeing sections from the government's control sounds brilliant! The closed-up environments of the first game really killed the beautiful wide open spaces of the rest of the game.

More appropriate than ever.

This game was beautiful and one of my favourites of the year. I loved it with all my heart. I pray for the sequel.

Calumon: That's... so bright! >.<

If I can't get a sequel to Breakdown I'm happy to get a sequel to another great game! More First Person games that aren't strictly shooters!

Mirrors Edge made me say at one point; "Did you see that!!? I just wall ran behind that guard kicked the gun out of his hands, dropkicked his mate off the side of the building turned round and punched him unconscious!"

For this I will love it forever.

However; when you get around to making the new one do not put me in a small room and force me to fight ninja riot police!

I'm not sure how I feel about the puzzle/platforming bits, having to find the only route was sometimes very slow and frustrating, but it was satisfying when complete and it prevented me getting bored of the epic free running and guard dodging.

Hmm.
Seems like The Escapist loves this game.
The idea for Mirror's Edge was brilliant, but I felt it lacked something in execution.
Hopefully, if there will be a sequel, things will be better.

Huzzah! Please let this happen!

Does anybody else think that Mirror's Edge has like... the best graphics ever. Even though from a technical standpoint, Crysis and other games do more, I just think Mirror's Edge looks beautiful. Some scenes look completely realistic or better than real life. Like moving concept art. Just goes to show how much better prerendered lighting can look if done right.

*remains hopeful*

I'd gladly see if DICE could work around the flaws of the first game to make it even better.

I want to see more combat options.

Personally I don't think you should be able to take or pick up a gun at all, but I hate how when you attack a guard you stop, you should be able to deliver some sort of attack without losing your momentum, that would be neat, like a jab at the throat as you run by that stuns him for like 5 seconds or something.

EDIT: The idea was interesting, but the story made it hard to take seriously, I love how it ends on the rooftop like "you did it!" my first thought was "awesome, good fucking luck getting all the way down to street level without being caught, while with your sister who isn't a crazy runner like you"
