That bugs me too. Whenever someone says "I could care less", I go "...Uh...so...that implies that you DO care."

It's pretty silly. I use the proper phrase.

that feminism is about female dominance, not gender equality

that a man who transitions to a womin, isnt a real womin (i use this as an example but obviously this goes for a womin who transitions into a man, as well)
largely has to do with its intense focus on one gender, as well as its name.

I just read a post on another forum where some guy said that Call of Duty is a faster paced game than Battlefield because Call of Duty has more frames per second.

My brain hurts right now. It really, really hurts.

Anyway, I don't know if that's a common misconception, but it was so incredibly stupid that I had to mention it.

And that most people who claim themselves to be feminists that you hear about these days are women who actually do want female dominance rather than equality.

Personally, I think it's one of those words that is changing definition over time, and we should just let it change. Like you said, the name rather implies that's what it means anyway.

its still absurd that, after all this time, so many people still have no idea what it means

Finally thought of one, mainly inspired by the last post.

Women's Suffrage != Women's suffering

It's hilarious when you hear people talking about how Women's suffrage is a terrible thing, because they haven't really got a clue what that means.

Ooh, the misconception that those two are equal when they aren't is one I hate. They are so close that it doesn't matter if you round up, but mathematically they are not the same.

Also there is no need for flaming people over it, especially when you've got the wrong answer.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. But some of those just irk me.
To be honest, that *kinda* fits with the stereotype that any canuck, excluding certain prone-to-rage French Canadians, are the most civil, mellow, well-adjusted humans on the face of the planet. This is coincidentally one of the things that personally drives me crazy. >.<

This is the other misconception that can throw me into a brain-meltingly catastrophic sh*tfit. People should take some initiative & properly educate themselves, instead of relying on the "talking heads" on the TV/internet for their complete daily, real-world infodumps. The masses would be far less susceptible to the insultingly obvious, exploitative, biased "research study info" certain overzealous female interest groups and lobbyists push on us.

-the phrase "could care less." People use it when they actually mean "couldn't care less"
-that governments are not comprised almost completely of corrupt, lying douchebags no matter who you elect. I know this to be true of the U.S., Canada and Australia (apparently it's much worse down under than even here in North America o_O), and I would be extremely surprised if it were not also true in the U.K. and the rest of the civilized world.

Personally? Imagine what would happen if I changed my avatar back to my old one, one that isn't the twilight zone logo. What do you think most people think of when they hear Twilight_Guy?

Yeah I hate ad hominem involving accusing me of like a book and movie series that I have never even seen and using that as a character insult. Twilight_Zone_Guy is too long for a user name guys.

Someone please educate people on what socialism and communism are. Thanks.

When people (not gonna lie here its americans) scream "COMMUNISM!" At each other it hurts me. Deep inside my brain.

An interview at Sarah Palins book signing gave the quote "Obama wrote a book all about Stalinism and communism"

I weep.
I understand your annoyance at the misuse of the terms- but please PLEEEEEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSEEEE don't stick to your own misconception that all Americans are like or even agree with Sarah Palin. That's like saying all Britons think like Tony Blair, or all Japanese think like Ryu Matsumoto.

OT: I really, really hate the misconception that acknowledgment of your own fluid sexual preferences makes you a whore or slut or interested in an open marriage. I've always been attracted to both sides of the gender pool- but in 27 years I've had exactly 2 sexual partners- and one of them is the husband I have always been faithful to for our 6 years of marriage.

That's strictly speaking not true. The only difference between a post op male to female transexual would be the genes (x and a y instead of double x), but genes don't dictate gender, the body does. Genes are a set of instructions for bodily construction, but a baby isn't male or female until it's done being constructed.. Changing someone's gene for eye color for example wouldn't magically change the eye color, the body would have to acknowledge the change and make new pigment.

Since such transitions take place long after gender is defined, pre-birth, and the individuals take large amounts of hormone pertaining to their intended gender, despite having the "wrong" genes, they're not going to revert extensive surgery. Genes are just instructions, doesn't matter what they say if the result is altered.
The process is just cosmetic surgery and like you said hormone therapy. Although this make them look like men and women on the outside the inside of their body is still their original genders. A woman that becomes a man still has her womb and a man that becomes a woman can't magically grow a womb.

Everything related to airplanes.
-That the plane will immediately fall out of the sky when the engines turn off
-Various mis-assignment of aircraft between different branches of the military (Air Force gets the F-16s and F-15s. Navy gets F-18's. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.)
-The vulcan cannon, in particular, is never portrayed accurately. They always show individual rounds flying out in a "tut-tut-tut-tut" sort of rate, like it's some slow-firing bushmaster or something. It doesn't do that. It fires close to 100 rounds per second. It sounds like a chainsaw exploding when it fires.
-Somehow, everyone thinks that planes have afterburners permanently on.
-Everyone ALSO thinks that every jet plane has the same stupid whine when it flies over, like it's some light commercial jet. Then they apply this same stock sound to a jet fighter flying by. Jet fighters are not powered by the dainty civilian turbofans, they have low-bypass jets blasting supersonic exhaust into the air, sounding less like a whine and more like a God's fireworks.
-There are A LOT more, but I can't possibly list them before I get to sleep.

Woops... >_> I DID miss the point of your post....I guess I'm part of that misconception you hate then... (although I don't think people who say "I could care less" are stupid. I just assume they haven't heard the proper phrase, or something)

It just bugs me....sorry...

I hate it when Colombians are stereotyped as coke dealers. I swear every time I see an add for a movie that slightly involves Colombia, it's about drugs. It's effing racist.
