22 is far too young to be ranting unironically about the kids of today and their silly new-fangled home entertainments and why they don't all go outside like we did in our day. It wasn't that long ago that people were saying the same thing about TV. Go back far enough and there were probably people complaining that today's youth were spending too much time reading. To bash the latest form of popular media is a time-honoured tradition.

"Take away the TV!" What do you think the chances are that she owns a TV and she watches it?

Think about this: these people who are outspoken against video games and all those related are hypocrites. You don't think the guys at CERN were fans of Pac-man and Space Invaders! when they invented, oh, yknow, the internet? seriously! and besides, this same thing happened with lutheranism, judaism, rock n' roll, jazz, rap, comic books, gays, etc. people who are stupid (not as an insult, but in the truest state of uninformed and unintelligent people) don't like change because it's different. and the bigger problem is that they are lead by crazies who don't know what they are talking about. Take the man who started the theory of the "ten-cent plague" that almost banned comic books: he accused batman and robin of promoting homosexuality to children, wonder woman of promoting BDSM to children, and was an outspoken believer in creationism. if anyone has ever seen the movie Footloose (christ, who hasnt?), then they will know that all of this propaganda and hate will eventually find something new to pick on, like minorities in politics. OH WAIT.

Doesn't quitting TV also mean that she would have never been in a pageant to try and win? Kinda shooting herself in her own dumb foot.
Hey lady! Leave the thinking to real people!

That's right, kids: When all else fails, you can put on a bikini, climb up on a stage and shake your moneymaker for Rush Limbaugh. Dare to dream!
Exactly. While I am not going to suggest that I know (or care) about the merits that Ms. Cameron was chosen for, I doubt that responsible parenting was not one of them. Hell, I can guarantee you that while it is no doubt good publicity to have motherly features in a Miss USofA contestant, that the contest will never place the responsible raising and education of children at the forefront of their agenda. After having given that consideration, why do we care what someone from this field of life says about video games? I would give just as much weight to anything she says about video games as I would about her recommendations for the best mens shaving cream, or what kind of all season tires to buy.

I'm 4 years older than her; as a kid I had a NES and skinned knees from falling down trees, and doing dangerous tricks on my bike.

Today, regardless of what the media has to say, I always see youngins outside conversing, on their bikes, on their scooters, and skateboards. The pools and beaches are inhabited by insipid brats - so are the malls, fast food joints, cinemas, and so on. And I know all those little bastards own consoles. Kids are EVERYWHERE!

Regardless of what Miss America 2010 believes, this generation's parents have instilled balance in their progeny.

While I agree that parents should regulate the time kids spend on videogames, I don't think Miss America is setting a good example either. You'd think studying journalism would open your eyes to the amount of pressure put on young girls to conform and be pretty, and yet she perpetuates it, by saying it's something that young girls should strive to be. I'm not a crazy feminist, but I don't think it's a good thing to aspire to.

fuck I played outside for a while, with my building blocks and action figures, but no new patches came out so i decided to sell it, for gears of war.

Best trade ever.

My parents were constantly telling me to go play in traffic when I was little. They never once mentioned sticks. No wonder I turned out so badly! Uh-oh someone has delusions of importance! Seriously though she couldn't come up with better than sticks? What about squirt/BBguns, assorted balls, or even hockey?

Speaking as someone who is currently taking a class on attracting women to games and dealing with the stigma of games as a nerd activity, this is what is colloquially known as "not helping".

To address her actual points: 1)Video games and physical activity are not mutually exclusive. There are, in fact, some recent (and not-so-recent as well) games that require physical activity. 2)I personally consider trying to understand the plot of a well-crafted story-based game (video or tabletop) to require a greater degree of imagination than pretending to joust with sticks (although, again, these are not mutually exclusive; I and several of my friends both play videogames and engage in boffer fights). 3)Having won a pageant is not relevant to her points.

Off topic: I've seen worse.

Kill it with fire.

JKing... I'm sure she just said what the judges wanted to hear. This year, anti-video games. Next year, Anti-Glacier melt... and then who knows?

I used to play outside as a kid, but its banned by law these days - if a child goes outside withour a hazmat radiation suit, steel-toe cap boots, protective goggles and at least three adults who have been screened by the government to prove they aren't perverts then the health-and-safety police will take them away and lock them in a padded cell with sterlised , gender neutral toys and gluten-free, lactose-free luke warm hot chocolate.

You don't even want to know what they do if you try to play conkers!

I remember climbing trees....
MY GOD. What country are you from?
England. The sad part is, I'm only half joking...
I believe it, it's kinda similar here in America.. Except the 3 adults would have to be racially diverse, and contain at least one female or it would be a no go.

Or, you live in a dangerous city and run the risk of stepping on heroin AIDS needles.
either way, ill stick with video games.
