"Parents need to "encourage" their kids to disregard beauty pageants instead, he added, saying they should be less shallow, paying some attention to those features of women that actually make them great people, like I did when I was a kid."

She was probably reading it off a tele-promter. The Miss Americas' these days are nothing but political shills.

Maybe she hasn't heard the saying "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but videogames will never hurt me."

Well kids should get out and play more. Unfortunately, the streets are much scarier now. What with weirdos everywhere. parents can't let there kids run around with no supervision anymore since the world seems entirely more hostile now. Just saying "let them go out" seems more likely to get the kid molested then it used to so perhaps we should execute caution when letting out kids play and consider other constructive forms of activity. Of course we should also let them enjoy some time with video games since, you know, there awesome.

Yes everybody. We SHOULD take a life lesson from this woman. We SHOULD work hard and stop being so lazy, and if we do, we MIGHT just be graced with natural good looks that we can use to win Miss America.

Okay fine. I can agree that kids should be spending more time outside instead of being inside watching tv and playing video games all day. Parents SHOULD limit their play time to maybe a couple hours so they can at least still go outside and get excercise. What I don't agree with is taking it away completely, kids can still be active and play video games and watch tv as long as the parents actually get involved. Also encouraging your kid to go out on the streets and poke each other with sticks is probably worse then letting them play games, but hey, what do I know?

... The girl has a big forehead. Anyway playing games with sticks is highly over-rated. Unless they're sticks of dynamite.

Stupid, irrelavent, unimportant ***** from another country. And here's the thing: those imaginary games they played with sticks? They now play them on console or PC.

That's right, kids: When all else fails, you can put on a bikini, climb up on a stage and shake your moneymaker for Rush Limbaugh. Dare to dream!
Hey Hey Hey!

Don't sink to her level! We're better than that.

And anyways. Parents should encourage kids too play outside, but not to stop playing video games all together. damn. Miss America Be Crazy
Parents should get their kids PSPs so they can play video games outside. See, compromise!

A broadcast Major telling people to take away TV from children....

I wonder if people take what she says to heart, and when she's no longer Ms. America, thinks to herself, when she can't find a job... "Dammit..."

basically the interview was hey I think like video games sucks *interviewer is not paying attention* five minutes later they notice that they were not listening and so they make up random shit.

That is my theory at least.

I'd like to know where she grew up.

I grew up in the country and played outside all the time. I had a nintendo, but while it was nice I played outside, and at night, in bad weather, and during the winter(because I hate cold), I played video games.

However, now I live in a neighborhood in a subdivision where I am one of only like two or three white families, the police are on a first name basis with the house across the street who we suspect is a drug dealer, and we sleep to the sounds of Motzart and Smith & Wesson. I don't have kids, but if I did, I'd be happier letting them play video games than going outside here.

Somehow the opinion of a walking eating disorder fails to move me. She's on the right track, it is important that gets get outside and get fresh air and exercise. But removing TV and videogames altogether is hardly necessary, they just need to be regulated to ensure that the kids get their time outside to stimulate their imaginations. Also she comes across as a complete idiot talking about playing in the street and hitting with sticks. I understand what she meant by that, but it didn't come across that way.

Right, obviously kids should instead spend their time idolizing people on tv because of their beauty. Genius wish I had thought of it.
