Yes, I can see the trend but I certainly hope that Infinity Ward will attempt to avoid the Halo syndrome. I am too a huge fan of Halo 1 but felt a bit jipped with the ones that followed. They got rid of the sweet pistol for starters! ;) I did enjoy Halo: ODST though... it was refreshing playing as a different character. That is one thing that MW has going for it. It can introduce and remove characters at will and not locked into a specific role. I just hope the next one has a longer yet more believable campaign.

I have to do a shout out for Borderlands, however. That game weened me off of MW2 multiplayer. It provided hours and hours of great gameplay and offers replay-ability in my opinion.

I can't even play either since my 360 decided reading discs was a stupid idea.

Its always halo or modern warfare. Someone tell me a good online multiplayer fps other than them two please (on 360). I want to see what im missing! (But yeah, Halo does suck).
There are good FPS on consoles? :S (Yeah, sorry)

OnT: Nah I think it's mostly coincidences. I however think that Activision will continue to do the Modern Warfare series until the end of ever.

[edit]

Ninja's ninjaing me :(
As TS said, L4D. TF2 is a lot better on PC though.

Forewarning: This is not a Hate agaisn't ethier of these games, just a common trend I noticed.
You didn't take the "cool to hate" path. Bravo.

My two cents... I don't see much of a difference between the story mode(s) in aspect to one being better than the other, and both were short to me.

Awesome and short... Like Mini-Kiss.

I never said Halo sucked, frankly, I enjoyed it more than Modren Warfare, however, a good FPS experience for the 360 would be the L4D series, Team Fortess 2(kinda)*, and if you enjoy single player the Half Life series. I know that sounds very Valve fanboyish, but those are actually good games by a lot of standards.

*I say kinda, because the PC version was much better, and it makes the 360 version seem less so.
Ive played all them ,i found them good, but not great. I got bored witht hem to quickly. (Also the Halo sucking part is my opinion, i hated it so so much.)

What you mean is, a unique idea that starts out very single-player focused with an additional multiplayer turning into a multiplayer-focused mainstream game that everyone screams is "generic"? Very much so.
I have a feeling you may be right on this one. If MW3 (for it is inevitable) turns out that way, then you called it.

You know, now that you mention it, yeah, that's true. And also, the first two Halos were on PC also, but now Halo's only on the consoles which seems to be happening with MW as well, I mean look at MW2, they gave PC gamers a worse version of the game than the console gamers.

Well, I don't hold a grudge against the games for making money, but I do hold a grudge against the kind of jerk who's definition of "Best X Ever" changes every time a new over-priced-special-effect-laden-Michael-Bay-fellating one comes out. I actually enjoy all of the Halo series' shooters, but I despised the hype surrounding Halo 2 and 3.

Having that said, I genuinely don't like the Call of Duty series, but just overall. I liked Call of Duty 3 and 4, but the first one is actually bad, the second one isn't as good as the third, the fifth one did not need to exist and gave me a real "Activision Cash-Cow" vibe, and I have a deep-burned hatred of the sixth one.

To answer the original question, I think there are parallels in the way the two series have progressed, but I greatly prefer the Halo series.

They are both extremely popular FPSs so it's only logical that they would follow a similar road, as that road is a very very lucrative one.

I see what you mean. I noticed that it's getting popular to hate Modern Warfare 2.
And it's not even a bad game.
As for feelings like this, allow me to explain. If the people who hate these games and things like it that are overly popular would be honest with themselves, they would probably have to confess that they don't hate these things as much as they portray. It's the IDEA of these things that people come to loath. When you don't like a game with little explanation other than it's simply not for you, and all you hear is is the soft slurping of fans as they suck off the developers of these things, the whole while feeling the appreciation to be undeserved, it can be kind of hard to come to terms with why you don't enjoy it. So instead of coming to the weak but truthful conclusion that they can't rejoice in something good, they rage and fume on the internet coming up with arbitrary and silly reasons to hate something. It's simply one strong opinion fueling another. It's fairly common and can be seen in almost all aspects of society whether it be religion, politics, or something as mundane as video games.

Also, please understand this is not hate for either side; I commonly find myself stalwartly defending something one minute, and trashing something I don't like right after wards.

So what if it is? Is that an inherently bad thing to do?

I like them both. I dont own an Xbox, but I'm more than happy to play Halo with my mates on split screen. And as for MW2, I fucking love it.

The links you make between the 2 seem pretty tenuous to be honest. They're both immensely popular first person multiplier shooters, Of course there's gonna be similarities, but thats not always a bad thing.

If by being incredibly popular and being a basis for an entire genre of games, then yes. Did you really need to actually ask that? Honestly though, I could care less if I like or don't like something based on the popular opinion of it. Have you ever played the game Run Like Hell, I actually liked that game no matter the complete unpopularity of it.

And since I am in a sharing mood, I also like the Gungans in Ep:1. Whatcha gonna do mang?

Good point, I agree with that. I love MW2 also, but it's not the most amazing game in the world. Uncharted 2 and Assassins Creed 2, for example, in my opinion, are just better games. The online on MW2 is better, but the games campaign, what is meant to be a games strong point, was rather dull. U2 and AC2 have more deep storylines, and Uncharted is hilarious.

I semi disagree. CoD4 had awesome multiplayer and all the maps were good (except shipment with a lot of people), until everyone started camping. Camping really ruined the multiplayer.

I think Halo has gartered all the hate because of the annoying fan base and the company milked the shit out of it.

There are, what, 6 Halo games?
There are only 2 Modern Warfares. (No, WWII style COD's don't count)

I like both games though, so I don't think it's a big deal.

Don't worry, there are many ass holes like that, I just usually report them :)

Yeah Ive noticed that, I don't mean to flame but I did like halo 2 better, it's just my opinion im just sprouting it out. I personally think COD MW1 was better than MW2 in both story and gameplay.
