They are both idiots.

The son for disobeying, (Then again he is a kid it's his nature)

The mother for not handling it right ,(Then again, She is a single mom and lacks the parenting skills)

When you read that line, you can hear credibility die.

Note: Whats with the violence of GTA4? would they not complain if it was Madworld just because its on a "family" console?

Edit: My first quote ninja :D

Is it wrong that I read that and though, "well that explains everything"?
Why be like that? Since she has friends in her Church that support her in her plight to stop her son from becoming a lifeless gamer, she's apparently a crazy cook with no credibility? Please. You two both lost all your credibility by being so gorram subjective.

Now, y'see, she should have just picked up the console and thrown it out the window.

That's parenting.
No that's wasting about $300.

That mom sounds kind of...dumb. Calling the cops on your son b/c he wouldn't stop playing games? Really? And if he stayed up on a Friday night, unless he had something important to do on Saturday, so what?
I'd be more than willing to waste $300 if my child was so intent on disrespecting me.

You've lost if you think money is more important than your relationship with your child. The problem is the child not listening because of the system. Get rid of the system and the problem is on it's way to being resolved.
That's true, but I was just talking about if you wanted to throw it out the window. That IS a waste of $300. Just hide it or sell it lol.
But... but... but...

Flinging it out the window is so much more hardcore.
Oh, I wouldn't throw it away. I'd beat the little bastard within an inch of his life with the very console he wouldn't stop playing.

Jeez, what a little brat. My sister is pretty stubborn (I'm just a procrastinating layabout, but I do work ;) ), and she'll often answer back to my mum without fear of repercussions, whereas I'm not one for wanting to get into trouble.

When I lived with my dad, I started to play GTA at around... Hmm, maybe 13/14, and I'm alright. My ex-step-brother used to stay over and bring his PS2 over with Vice City (he's about 2 years younger than me) and we'd spend most of the day playing it, but if we got told to turn it off, we did.

This mother needs to get off her arse and teach the kid some respect. He needs to learn you can't walk over everyone, and that he *needs* to respect her. After all, he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for her, and I bet he wouldn't even have the console if she wasn't here. Hell, even the Cray brothers respected their mother.

Calling 911 because your kid doesn't listen to you? Sound more like she's got a problem.
Still better than calling 911 because Mcdonalds ran out of Mcnuggets.

I'd link to that story if I could but I forgot which site it was on...

So you would approve of your child playing games through the night? Come on, how does her being religious change ANYTHING..

GTA 4 is a violent game, get over it!

"Clearly, it's a very, very rare situation for someone to call the cops," said Grand Theft Childhood [http://www.grandtheftchildhood.com/GTC/Home.html] author Lawrence Kutner. "That she went to the extreme of calling the police tells me more about her level of frustration than anything else."
Shall I tell you what it tells me Mr Kutner, how fucking retarded is this woman that she wasted police time over something as stupid as a video game? If she is a bad parent, that's her own problem to deal with. She does not need to dial 911 and call officer's who could have been off dealing with a real emergency to come deal with her 14 year old son who she can't control because she's a fucking wuss. To all the yanks out there, how do you feel knowing that your tax money is being spent on police doing the parenting for retarded parents?

Yes, it is wrong. There are a few wack-job radical religious people, that make headlines because of their stupidity. Then it gives the rest of us a bad name. I go to church (altough not recently...hmmmm) and I believe in God, but I will play the shit out of Gears of War or Saint's Row (not GTA, because I don't really care for them, but that is another thread).

Anyway, my point is that a few radicals can really make an entire group seem like something they are not. Just ask any Muslim person....
That's a good point and I'm well aware that certain aspects groups can be exaggerated by people who take things to the extreme. But this is a somewhat extreme case. She rallied her church/community together, and called the police, to stop her son playing a video game, to 'save' her son when all he did was pull an all nighter, who hasn't done that before?
I agree completely

Where the hell did you get I said she was an idiot about the church thing? I said she was being idiotic for calling the cops for that, not church.

Alright, and wait.. two things that dont make sense here:

First off:
When Angela Mejia woke up at 2:30 in the morning last Saturday and realized her 14-year-old son was playing videogames in his bedroom despite being told to go to sleep, she marched into his room and unplugged his console.
Second off:
Police responded to the scene and were apparently able to talk her son into turning off his PlayStation and going to sleep". "They were just like, 'Chill out. Go to bed'," the boy said.
Tell me if I'm reading this right, she unplugged his console and then.. they convinced him to turn off his already unplugged game system after she called 911 to "convince" him for her? I'm confused.
Uh, the person I was talking to when you quoted me said that. The original quote wasnt even directed at you.

I assumed he just plugged it back in, being a little shit.
Right, I wasnt clear on that.

And, right.. because every boy that defies his mother is a little shit, nice. At least your not talking about beating the kid, like some in this thread.

Yeeah. Totally stop listening to the mom the minute i heard the word "church". And really if you can't control you8r child what are you going to do in your life?

Also, what the hell is a video?

"I would never buy that kind of video. No way,"

Learn your basic shit ignorant mommmy. It's just like the mother who couldn't get her son to go to take a bath or something and she called to police.

You know, you CAN go to church AND be a decent person...

Anyway, this seems reasonable. She appears to be more frustrated with his level of respect for her and his level of addiction, i.e. playing at four in the morning.

Someone should show her how to open the disc tray. Then this problem could be much easily solved. Her son is far too young to be playing GTA anyway. I'm not opposed to kiddos playing any and all M rated games, but GTA is one that I would never allow. Though, seeing as how I'll never have children, that's irrelevant. Also, I'm going to throw this out there, seeing as everyone else is...

The support of her church; really? See this one of my problems with organized religion: it removes responsibility. If this woman would just nut-up and deal with the problem, life would be much easier. Instead she's trusting the prayers of her friends to magic away the horrible devil game. This kind of thinking is a major problem with the world today. I have no problem with having a faith of sorts, but this kind of shit is ridiculous.
