"Clearly, it's a very, very rare situation for someone to call the cops," said Grand Theft Childhood [http://www.grandtheftchildhood.com/GTC/Home.html] author Lawrence Kutner. "That she went to the extreme of calling the police tells me more about her level of frustration than anything else."
Shall I tell you what it tells me Mr Kutner, how fucking retarded is this woman that she wasted police time over something as stupid as a video game? If she is a bad parent, that's her own problem to deal with. She does not need to dial 911 and call officer's who could have been off dealing with a real emergency to come deal with her 14 year old son who she can't control because she's a fucking wuss. To all the yanks out there, how do you feel knowing that your tax money is being spent on police doing the parenting for retarded parents?
Oh believe me; It absolutely thrills us. Our money paying for crazy women who start by blowing things out of proportion, and then can't even follow through and just pitch the console out the fuckin window when the son pitches a fit. I see both their points of view and they both handled it like children. It's sad when the police have to come put people in time-out.

1. why is a 14 year old playing an 18 game without his parents permission? i mean that is just bad parenting.
2. why call the police over a videogame, she should just punish her own child!
3. why is she relying on her church to raise her own child, a church is a community not a babysitting service! (I know some of you pictured the Pope or something giving support to this crazy lady) thats just saying that she can not hack raising her own child.

the point i am making her is that it is not the game (or the church's fault)it is infact her own fault!

TV and Videogames dont make a child bad.. BAD PARENTING DOES.. They do however make GREAT scapegoats for the shitty parents.. There like the jews of the parenting world.. Hated and always being the scapegoats..

Being a Christian (and proud), I believe this mother in particular took it a bit too over the top here.

"I would never buy that kind of video. No way,"
So if the mom didn't approve, who bought it for him???
There are to many ridiculous parents these days.

Wow... just... wow. Something tells me this won't end well. And exactly HOW did a 14-year old get a copy of Grand Theft Auto in the first place anyway?

Maybe the boy could've called 911 on his mother if he had support from the church.

On topic. The mother probably doesn't know how to deal with a situation as such.

Faults are on both parties.

The mom for claiming to be "supported by church" which just destroys all her credibility and she did NOT take appropriate actions (911 over simple gaming?)

The kid for staying up all night in the first place, and more so for a shitty game he's not allowed to play at 14 (come on, who stays up for GTA? I'd much rather stay up for a game that's actually good).

What? She called 911 because her son was up playing video games? A 14 year old even?

D:

Clearly someone needs to call child services, as she has no idea how to raise a child. And if she disapproves of him playing GTA4 (and rightly so as it has a M rating), why does he have the game then? Why? You have no right to complain about the game, lady, when it's clearly recommended for people 18+. Durrrrrr.

I mean, really, I thought this was a joke. I still think it's a joke. I ask you, WHAT mother calls the cops on her OWN 14 YEAR OLD SON over a VIDEO GAME? Answer: a terrible one. She needs to show herself to the 'I Fail At Life Cliff' and do us all a favor by stepping off of it.

Gotta love watching a discussion about videogames dissolve into dickery over religeon and the assumption she's a religeous fanatic because she dared to mention god...

Not saying she isn't, but it's a big jump to make based on limited information.

Wow, first post and someone manages to single out the one use of a religious term, and start bashing religious folks.

A good-sized chunk of you are massive hypocrites.

She has the support of a church. This can be substituted with "She has the support of a community of like-minded individuals." But, in yet another thread, the Escapist bigots swarm onto the page and flame away.

How do you people get off calling yourselves ANY better than the religious people you so vehemently despise? The church here has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, and yet we have people saying things like this:

Which demolishes ANY attempt to consider yourself fair, open-minded and tolerant.

I could say "Is it wrong that since you're an atheist and I thought 'Well, that means you're a pretentious prat!'" Is it at all acceptable as a sweeping stereotype? No, it is not!

Frankly, intolerance is what started the Crusades, Inquisition and all those other moments you're so keen on pointing out. How is it acceptable for an atheist to treat religious people in the exact same way?

This is a horrifying display of immaturity and intolerance, especially from a community that prides itself on being so "mature and fair to everyone."

Either be tolerant of everyone, or no one at all.
Sadly, I don't care anymore, at all. I've made it abundantly clear in responses like yours to my post that I wasn't using her faith against her, just the fact she needs the support of a giant community to stop her child gaming, which seems a little extreme.

If you want a more indepth response, which you probably don't, its aorund here somewhere.

If the kid is like this, then the mother has done a crap job already. If a parent can't control their kid, then they shouldn't be a parent.

Am I really the only one here who doesn't think the kid was being particularly bratty? He stayed up late playing video games during the holidays, who here honestly never did that when they were 14?
