Everything that people have stated is pretty much on my list, but I'd have to say that the thing that gets me the most is when people take games WAY too seriously.

Since when did Games + Xbox Live = Serious Business?
Absolutely.

I really hate ppl who call out "noob" whenever they get killed or whenever they kill by someone, or in Left 4 Dead where they are convinced that everone except for themselves are noobs.

In my opinion, the worst type of gamer is one who isn't gracious in victory. Seriously, i couldn't give less of a shit, if I had fun, it was a good game, if not it wasn't. If you need to win to have fun, there's probably something wrong...
------
This is why I like CoD more than Halo. It's all about kills in CoD, because you get experience per kill so you're going to rank up depending on how good you are (how good you are at getting kills) instead of getting 1 exp per match IF you win. With the idea of getting experience per kill there's more in it for the individual player, I've noticed people in CoD 4 yell at their teammates about losing a lot less than they do in Halo.

Win or Lose they're still getting experience and still enjoying themselves as a result of getting EXP and leveling. I used to really like Halo until they implemented the new ranking system, it's just not fun anymore because I'm stuck at a low level (Lieutenant grade 2) even though I'm a good player and get 20+ kills on average per match.

Still that doesn't annoy me because I know I'm a good player but then there are times when I get assholes calling me a noob just because of my low rank.

those that think the use of mics by anyone who doesnt have something contrustive to say, this mainly extends to those who use Halo 3 and CoD online.

Yeah, little kids with squeaky voices are really annoying, and people who pretend they've won when you've beaten them or they get really annoyed and start sending abusive messages.

Pfff, where to begin? I've been playing games online a lot since I got an Xbox 360, and I've been shocked often by the things I see or hear in games on Xbox Live. Man, people online suck. I'll try to make a list of the kinds of people who annoy me most:

Cheaters/glitchers. This one is a no-brainer. Nothing ruins a match faster than an annoying guy who's invincible / invisible / has one-hit kills / superspeed / etc etc. I don't understand that people would even stoop so low, what does a victory mean if you only attained it with outside help? Excessive cheating can actually drive away all the honest players and decimate a game's online playerbase. Great going, jerks.

Little kids. Another one I see mentioned a lot, and with reason. Not only are their voices a pain to listen to, but they tend to sing silly songs, babble about nonsense, and keep asking for attention. ("Hey, guys! Hey guys! Guys!!!") And what are 11 year olds doing playing games like Gears of War 2 in the first place?!

Braggers. People who need to emphasize their 'l33t skillz' by telling everybody how much they rule every time they score a kill, laugh at people they defeat, or ridicule the other team. It's just a game man, MVP does not stand for 'king of the world'.

Quitters. I mention this one because it's a huge problem in Gears of War 2 online, which I've been playing a lot lately. In GoW2 no players can join a match once it has started, so any quitters always unbalance the teams. Even worse, as soon as someone quits and it becomes 5 vs 4, that often prompts someone else to quit as well, which results in a 5 vs 3 mismatch which (in my view) is fun neither for the bigger nor the smaller team.

Gangsters. People who swear a lot, threaten other players, have apparently slept with a lot of different mothers etc.

Egoists. They care only about themselves and not their team. They don't revive teammates, they hoard powerups, steal kills, don't help their teammates out etc. And to top it off they usually claim it's all because of them if their team wins, and all because of their teammates if their team loses.

Griefers. Another obvious one. Teamkillers, people who are useless on purpose, people who sabotage the game etc. I mean, really. You must be pretty twisted to derive pleasure from ruining other people's fun.

Other. A lot of occasional incidents fall in this category. From people yelling 'white power' all round in a match of Call of Duty 5 to people who join a match but then just stand still and don't do anything for ten minutes. There are some strange people out there.

Those are the ones I can think of for now. It almost makes me glad my 360 is bricked, at least I'll have a break from XBL...

Speaking of annoying internet tough guys... :)

But I despise the prepubescent players who can't shut up, I dread the day I find one that can actually play the game, I know that I'll be going to a therapist, or if I get angry enough, a prison cell, for years afterward.
We're not all like that just for your information.

Yea little kids is the main thing, especially when they are playing an M rated game, gee hm maybe there is a reason you are not supposed to be playing.
can you recommend any good Teen games with online as good as CoD's or Gears? Cause' I'd love to hear it.
No I can't but my point is that kids try and play these gaqmes and then complain when they can't. They also try to act all tough and cool.
we don't all do that

Oh I have one too:
People with hangovers/Assholes who think the reason there's a mic included is so that you don't use it: Being a kid, I take a lot of flak for my voice not having changed yet, but nothing pisses me off more then people who shout at us to shut up just because we like to have conversations during matches.

Well, I think the ones that are annoying are the douche ones that always insult you if they only get even a single kill on you.
Also, the younger gamers start to get annoying at first, but then they end up sounding like the grunts from Halo which will then only make you laugh at them.

Well, no. No violent bloody shooters anyway, because they don't make those for kids eh! I'm not saying nobody under 16 should play GoW ever, but some of the kids in online matches are really nothing more than children yet, and the combination of fast-paced action, blood and violence seems to get them way too worked up.

I started playing Violent, Bloody shooters at a friend's house when I was 7. Then again, we were always forced to be calm and quiet while playing them because one of his parents was usually sleeping. Maybe I just got trained to not get worked up over them that way. I understand not all kids are like me online, the stereotype just pisses me off.

And I understand that not all kids who play games online are the way I described. But I do encounter kids like that with some frequency, so that's why I included them in my list.

I have a couple things to add:

(Disclaimer: I only read the first page, and the 6th page, so if my points were already made in the pages in between those, i apologize.)

First, a story. This happened over the last two days. To start, I had just downloaded Synergy on Steam the previous day, and I noticed my friend was playing it, so i joined his game. When I got there, there were 8-10 people on the server, and they were doing the last strider battle of Episode 2. Not too bad, except everybody but a few people were just screwing off (taking the cars and hiding them, hogging the dispensers, etc). In particular, there was this one kid (probably about 3 years old, swears a lot) who kept insisting that he was killing all the striders, even when i had personally done it:

another person- "good job!"
me- "tha-"
idiot- "THAT WAS TOTALLY ME, IVE BEEN DOING ALL THE WORK FOR YOU IDIOTS AND YOU DONT EVEN CARE"

and later
me- "hey *DELETED*, were having some trouble killing these things, why dont you give us a hand and show off your 'leetness' (yes i actually said that)?"
him- "NO"
me- "Why?"
him- "I died!"
me- ???
him- "I DIED SO IM NOT HELPING YOU GUYS ANY MORE!"
me- ...

not long after that
me- *kills strider*
him- "THAT WAS TOTALLY ME"
me- "Thought you weren't helping any more?"
him- "Yeah, i changed my mind"
me- *disconnects*

On the other side of the coin, however, the next day (yesterday) i joined a server that was in the canals of Half-Life 2. There i met some really great people, one of them had a really high-pitched voice. That annoyed me at first, causing me to ignore him out of habit. Throughout the game, especially during Ravenholm, i noticed that he was actually a really good player. He didn't talk much, and i had more of a problem understanding him because of the fact that his mic sucked and he was way too quiet, than the fact that he had a high voice.

Oh, I also went onto another server on Synergy that was on the prison levels. There were 6-8 people on the level, saying that they had to conserve their ammo, so they all grabbed something with the physics gun to use as a shield/projectile, flinging those at zombies and combine (and they wondered why they were lagging! 8 people each using a physics object, go figure!), yet they were using AR2 ammo on headcrabs. I left shortly after i joined.

Last note is that I don't meet many high-pitched, whiny, sweary 3 year olds on TF2. I find most of the people on TF2 to be fairly mature, maybe unpracticed at the game, but generally polite, not using the mic for music (except once, he got kicked fast) and stuff. Maybe i just found a good few servers, not sure.

Very poorly formatted post, sorry. I'm tired, first day of school after break, etc.

People that annoy me--

-White guys that drop n-bombs until an actual black person shows up in the game and then clam up or drop.
-campers
-anybody (not just little kids) that say "Hold on" so they can practice something on you
-people that whine when they lose
-people that have been playing a game for 6 months that harass other players because they haven't gotten as good at it in the 10 minutes they've been playing
-beggars in WOW

Notice "children" isn't there. Some of them are tolerable, even fun.
I hate discrimination against early teens in online games; I'm only 14, yet I don't fall into this stereotype do I? I tend not to use my headset in case of being ridiculed. I post at the escapist because people are generally tolerant of other people and can actually have intellectual discussions.

Amen
I love them so much. They're so easy to pick off if you are infected.
I do confess to running ahead sometimes myself, but, only to spite friends.
