For reasons unknown to me, my Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 save game with A LOT OF FREAKIN' HOURS of gameplay on it disappeared right before my eyes.

As in, it was there one second, then it was gone. Still puzzled up to this day.
Never touched it again. >_<
OUCH! I got that game and love it. Milliardo + ZZ Gundam = <3

For me it would be my Final Fantasy 12 file. I had nearly everyone at 99, beat Yiazmat and Omega Weapon mark XII, all licence boards done, Zodiac Spear, nearly all the rarest armor. Then my little cousin got hold of my memory card. AND DELETED IT!!!! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

(Plus also had a 122333 file on it where I was at the first fight against Cid in the empire)

Its either the loss of my Pokemon Silver data, in which was held all of my very first Pokemon, and the memories of one of my favorite games, or the discovery this afternoon that every file on my memory stick was wiped because the damn school computers don't allow safe removal. I had a Nuzlocke going on there dammit! Thats the lives of those Pokemon lost! Not to mention all of the coursework etcetera...

it's almost 2 years now from what I myself call the Black Monday when my motherboard died for some reason so I had it repaired when I got it back and turned it on the whole thing went to shit because apparently the idiot who repaired it connected something where it was not supposed be connected and the power supply fried everything. So yeah my 2x6(that is 2 palythrougs with each class)Mass Effect files, my fully upgraded Dead Space files on impossible, all my Fallout 3 characters and my Resident Evil 4 files on pro with all the upgraded guns, so I lost fucking everything. The only good thing was that I basically got a new pc for free.

A good few years ago, me and my little brother decided to play Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King for the PS2 during the October holidays. But the memory card on the PS2 was corrupted and deleted the save file when the console was switched off. So almost every day that holiday we played through the whole story mode on co-op to unlock the challenge modes at the end. And then we'd do it again the next day. And the next.

Good times!

Around the time that the original Pokemon games came out in the states, I was visiting family. Of course, I had already invested hours upon hours in becoming the very best, like no one ever was. One night, I noticed my sister and female cousins crowded around something. Later, I went to play my game, and I saw another name displayed when I started it up. You can guess what had happened..........

I was on the last boss in Neverwinter Nights, just needed one more hit, and my computer freezes. Restarted and find out that the ENTIRE GAME was corrupted. Never did reinstall that game to try at it again.

When I came back from school, I found that my 6 year old uncle has erased my whole Gamecube memory card. My progress in Wind Waker, my characters in Super Smash Bros. Melee, my Sunshines in Mario... GONE....

Morrowind.

I had just gotten the last ashlander tribe to declare me the nerevarine, and then the game froze in the middle of autosaving while I slept. That meant that I had to go back to the last manual save... which was about 10 levels ago and I haven't even started talking to the great house councils or ashlander tribes.

For those of you that don't know the game, that means I had to redo the most grindtastic part of the main quest.

Ah. It was when I went to a Kid's Club in 2003 with a PS2 memory card. It had EVERYTHING on that I'd ever played. I left it for safekeeping for the next day. When I got back, it was gone.

Someone stole MY CHILDHOOD.

NOOOOO

I've got OCD from quicksaving and backing them up too much.

Never lost a Save though. :)

Even though I had bought my Brother his own PS2 Memory Card for when he wanted to play on my PS2, he forgot one day to switch them round, and ended up turning it off in the middle of him saving Fifa, corrupting my Memory Card thus losing 100+ hours of Final Fantasy X, and 100% Completion on GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas & both Kingdom Hearts games.

I stormed into his room one day and as he sat looking at me whilst using his Laptop, I lost it and screamed "YOU F*CKING IDIOT!!!! ALL MY HARD WORK DONE ON GAMES LIKE GTA III ARE GONE BECAUSE YOU FORGOT TO CHANGE MEMORY CARDS YOU COMPLETE F*CKTARD!"

His reply? "Calm down, you can do it all again"

I felt like smashing his Laptop over his head.

If it wasn't for God Of War coming out shortly after, i'd have traded my PS2 in frustration.

AC cable for Gameboy Color breaks powerflow while saving a game file on Pokemon Yellow. All of my favorite Pokemon from 8 years of playing were lost. I had moved all compatible Pokemon off of my Crystal game in preperation for restarting that game.

I was devastated.
Yeah, a similar thing happened to one of my Blue saves like that; I was very unhappy. Its especially bad if you had really high level pokemon you obtained legitimately because then that's dozens of hours gone.
I had about two dozen legitmate level 90's on that game. I was upset enough that after it was gone forever, I didn't play Pokemon for about 3 months.
Ouch, that's even worse than what I had; about ten level 70ish, all deliberately picked for their Elite 4-whopping ability. Plus I had a lot of the rare pokemon from the Safari zone...

Little Big Planet, though not exactly 'loss of a save file'. I did lose a LOT of progress because I forgot to pick up one item in the very beginning of the game. I needed it near the end, but I did not have it. It was totally possible to progress through the game without said item for a very long time, but you couldn't go back to pick up the item once you needed it. You had to already have it on you.
I didn't know this when I was eight years old. I cried a little, knowing that I had to redo a huge part of the game.

The day my little sister and I learned our most valuable lesson - 3rd party memory cards for the gamecube suck. We lost a bunch of Skies of Arcadia data, our Mario Party 4 data, Crystal Chronicles and even our perfect SA2 completion. We never re-did the last one but we have been working on a new perfect run of Skies of Arcadia when we haven't been busy.
