personally, I think the star wars cow is dead. but that doesn't stop lucas from milking it for what it's worth somehow.
Even though I love almost all of them, Megaman is another license that just has been taken too far. I'm just waiting for "special-needs man" or something as equally ridiculous to come out as a robot master.

What everyones forgetting, is that you can have a good time playing Call of Duty, Mario, or Starwars games.

Now Sonic! That franchise has been milked more then a prized cow. And when was the last good sonic game? Wasnt it back on the Dreamcast?

Mario has been going far too long. (as well as most Nintendo games)
Star Wars has had one too many spin offs.
CoD has made enough money from the same formula.
Halo should have ended at 3.

A lot of us have said it. "They're milking this franchise to death" but really, which game franchise do you think has been the most milked?

For me, I'd have to say Assassin's Creed. I recently looked up AC on wikipedia, and the franchise has thrown out 9 games in just 4 years! NINE! Of course, they're spread out amongst every platform out there, consoles, haldhelds, to phones. Regardless, every game has a different story and a different subtitle, therefore, nine different games.
Well yah, 1 main game a year though, in fact I wouldn't say it's milked just that it's a franchise. Star Wars on the other hand, well I'd say there were more Star Wars games per 4 years even before the Prequels were announced.

Starwars
it started out awesome with the X-wing and Tie fighter simulators, but its been drained dry.
The problem is: There are no new games as awesome as X-Wing Alliance
Just that Fart Unleashed crap..
Well recently, but there were ALOT of flight simulators though, did you play Star Wars Jedi Starfighter? Yah it had a stupid name and the promotion on the cover was "Play as the starfighter from the movie!" which was pretty sad, but the gameplay was so well executed it's forgivable.

And yah Force Unleased just showed how far off the deep end Star Wars has gone, during the original trilogy force powers meant something, they were more symbolic of the character then just "Hurr I reached level 12 sith powers". Sure the action is cool but the Jedi has been completely thrown out as a way of life, just determines what force powers you get and what color lightsaber you have, when in the original trilogy it was all about testing your character to face their biggest fears and overcome their biggest challenges. In Force Unleased it isn't even about that stuff anymore, it's about being the most powerful you can be for no reason at all, just to kick ass. Of course to be fair originally Star Wars was entirely different like for example Darth Vader wasn't going to be a very important character just some imperial general, hell he wasn't even going to be Luke's father (not the final movie of course), on top of this Episode 5 was originally going to be called "Star Wars 2" but then they stated adding on the numbers.

Sonic Colors (released Nov 2010 on the Wii & DS) is apparently a really good game. The last good Sonic game I actually have played was Sonic Rush on the DS (it is from...2005 I think)

Sonic isn't a Nintendo franchise, it's Sega's.

Transformers. There's been about ten-thousand series, thousands more toys, hundreds of films, and oodles of comics/books. For every Beast Wars or War for Cybertron, there's ten Revenge of the Fallens.

A long-running franchise isn't necessarily being milked, by I think poor Mario gets abused by Nintendo, as does his old rival by Sega.

Also, as soon as they broke the "final" film into two parts, I gained the license to ***** about Harry Potter being milked. But I'd use my last breath to find something to ***** about, in regards to shitty teen angst tripe at least.

Well to be fair each book is longer and longer then the last so you can't really blame them.

No, the Megaman series are never milked, i want more, More. Why cant Capcom be nice and release a new NES style classic episode this year? I would shower them with money and even buy the stupid DLCs.

(Also i want my SNES style X9 already...)

Come on Capcom, take it already.

FIFA, fo sho. Instead of bringing out a new game every 2-3 years and perhaps making team updates DLC, they bring out a 'new' game EVERY YEAR, which mostly involves them changing the controls a bit, updating the teams, and making the grass look shinier.

At least with games like Mario they mix it up a bit with things like Mario Party.

I'm not suggesting we have a 'FIFA Party' or a 'FIFA at the Olympic Games' (lol) as that would makes no sense and would probably be crap, albeit hilarious.

I AM suggesting, however, that, at 40 quid a pop EVERY YEAR, they could put more effort in than making Messi's face look a bit more like a photo.

FIFA is the definition of milking as it doesn't even try hard to sell itself as something different.

Other games that 'milk it':
The Sims (No, EA, I'm not paying my hard earned cash on a new skin for a virtual toaster..)
Civilisation (although it's kind of stuck in what it can do without moving into an RTS).
Tomb Raider

7th book was at least 200 pages shorter than the 5th book, if I remember correctly. Ironically, the 5th movie is the shortest of all of them.

Edit: Actually scratch that, it was only about 100 pages shorter, my bad. Remember it being way longer than that though.

It's not like they sold us short though. We still got an awesome feature length per half of the last book. They say 'go out with a bang' and it did :p

The Half-Life series, it's being slowly and surely milked to death. And, the Guitar Hero games there have been well over a dozen of those things made in a relatively short time.
It's disturbing how stupid the points at attempt at hate that are practically only found on this website towards Valve and their game series.
Honestly, half life, milked? There hasn't even been a game for years now...
I did say slowly, but you can call all the ports, expansions, episodes, etc as an attempt to milk it yes. The fact that in my opinion some of the the quality was lost after the first doesn't help either. And, don't be such a fanboy if someone holds a different opinion than you it's not automatically hate, you don't see me pitching a fit so many people love to call two of my favorite series milked: Final Fantasy and Halo.

Madden. It is the most milked series ever, and people keep buying it over and over again for nothing more than a roster update. Hell, it's even encourages people to buy it from the reviews that game magazines or sites give them of 8's and 9's.

Instead I'll list the culprits:
Activision with their nonstop Call of Duty/Guitar Hero bullshit
Nintendo with every franchise ever
Microsoft with Halo
Lucasarts and everything Lucasarts has put out in the last few years.
The Final Fantasy brand has been less than final since it started.

Koei and its Warrior series. They release one every 6 months, Dynasty, Samurai, Gundam, etc.

Thing is, they barely change since 2002 or so when I played. I don't kind them, but really need another version so frequently?

Half-Life. Valve has based all their reputation on one game and have been selling it (and it's mods) ever since.
No they haven't? They've been using the same engine, that's it. Half-Life has four games, over what, 12-14 years (tired, damn it)? That's not milking a franchise.

I'd say Call of Duty, but that's obvious. So is Halo. So is Final Fantasy.
Eh, Grand Theft Auto? They never seem to change to me, ever.

Fucking Avengers and Justice League. I've never picked up a "standard" comic book in my life but it seems to me there are at least 1,000,000,000 different worlds, continuity's and reboots of those damn things

Final Fantasy; the more it goes the more they look like movies and not games.
Star Wars; so much potential, never used well imho.
Mario; Cmon nintendo. Do something new and creative for a change.
