Although I loved FFX, I think the Final Fantasy series.
Probably not the series as a whole, but FF7 has to stop being hyped as the greatest game ever. (FFX was the best in my opinion). Also possibly Ocarina of Time. It's like fanboys use it as the basis for every subsequent game.

"Wind Waker is too different, so it sucks."
"Twilight Princess was too similar and didn't do it as well (or just because it's not Ocarina of Time), so it sucks."
I personally think Wind Waker blew Oot out of the water. Oot was dark, depressing and had that annoying water temple.
Wind waker, was happy, bouncy and just pure fun. The puzzles were difficult at times, but still enjoyable. My one gripe about Wind Waker would be some of the bosses were lacking imagination. Wind Waker really deviated from the typical Zelda formula and it worked. It's a shame Phantom Hourglass was so shit.
Let the flaming begin...

God, I used to be active on their boards about a decade ago. They've gotten steadily worse as time goes by however. I love Fallout, but NMA needs to be fumigated.
I, personally, would prefer to

Every non-RPG with a leveling up system. I shouldn't have to level up if I'm a god-damn spec ops with several years of training up my ass.

Three-way tie between the Grand Theft Auto series, Half-Life series, and Final Fantasy series.

Grand Theft Auto is a fun game to dick around in for 20 minutes at a time. Cruise the streets on a hog listening to tunes and spraying hooker guts all over your shiny motorcycle (not a euphemism!). But the moment you try to do a story mission... zzzZZZZzzzzZZ.

I've never understood why people talk about Half-Life like it's the second coming of Christ. It's an above average FPS that did very little to further the genre beyond a pretty neat physics engine and decent story. Yes, it did spawn Counter-Strike (which itself spawned much of the gaming culture we know today), but the original game itself is slightly above average at best.

Sure, Final Fantasy practically invented JRPGs and was the best example for many years, but today's JRPGs are stuck in a quagmire of mediocrity. I've never been a big JRPG fan, but I just don't understand what all the fuss is about with this series in particular.

GTA 4. They exchanged any bit of fun for realism and shallow dinner dates which don't do jack shit for the story.

Killzone 2. Tight, well made game, but PS3 enthusiasts always seem to treat it like THE Halo killer. The story has its head above water, although it all came off as a bit dull to me. Multiplayer is fun, but it takes approximately 3 days for the maps to load.

Left 4 Dead didn't work very well when me and one friend tried to play it, you need a full human party, not the garbage computer teammates. Of course, I am one of the filthy scum to gaming which played the game on the 360, so my opinion doesn't matter on L4D.

Has to be Fable 2 for me. Even now I'm kinda pissed off that I bought that, shoulda saved my self $60 and just rented it. And its not out yet, but I'm half expecting MW2 to be disappointing.

Is this that guy again? I see Halo mentioned but not too much but time will only tell.

My example has to be MGS, now hear me out.

It had some good bits and was rather enjoyable but the movies just grated on me.
In honesty I think that's probably why I liked the series so much. As for my choice, I have to say Halo. Most of my mates were orgasming over Halo and Halo 2, and later Halo 3. Well I bought an XBox just to see what everyone was raving about and well... I was sorely disappointed. It just didn't feel origional or fresh.

Just because you personally didn't like a game that's popular doesn't mean it's overrated...

I would say that Team Fortress 2 is overrated. PLEASE DON'T HURT ME LET ME EXPLAIN. I own both the PC and 360 versions of Team Fortress 2 and let me start out by saying that it is one of my favorite games of all time and I've invested more time into Team Fortress 2 alone than most of my other games combined. The thing is, it's gotten to the point on the forum that whenever online multiplayer is mentioned, everyone points at Team Fortress 2 and recommends it. Yes, it's a great game but I'm getting tired of everyone throwing praise and worship to it whenever someone asks "what's a good multiplayer game?" on the forums. I still enjoy my time with Team Fortress 2, but I would like to speak of multiplayer without hearing about it for the millionth time.

Also I'm not to keen on Halo 3, but bashing Halo is so old that it's just not fun anymore.

I'm not sure whether to say that Final Fantasy is over-rated or not.
A part of me wants to say that any game that's got as many parts to the series as FF has is just going too far.
But to be completely fair, it's not so much of a series as you might first think.
I don't really know about any of the games pre-FFVII, but the only real sequel I know of was FFX-2.
Square could have thought up another name for every game in the 'series', and no one would consider it a series, as they're all separate games falling in to the same genre, not sequels to one another.
On the other hand, if only because of the name, it's hard not to think of it as a series.
I don't know about other fans, but I'd be willing to give any Final Fantasy game a try. Perhaps if they did have different names, I'd still be drawn to them because of the company responsible for them.

Metal Gear Solid.
Part one was great, but then it fell in a canyon or something.

A rather deep canyon with a river of endless cutscenes at the bottom most likely.

All joking aside, MGS get's an amazing amount of kudoes from it's fans... which amazes me.
I think its like marmite, you either love it or hate it. Personally I love it, more complex story line than alot of the other games out there.

I like the way you get a load of guns and can get unlimited ammo but it's a stealth game.

For me it's Halo, Wolfenstien, DMC, GTA, Haze, Farcry 2 and Killzone 2.

Uncharted, I really don't get all the praise for it. Yeah it was good in parts, but there's nearly zero replay ability, the quick time events are absolutely BS, the cover system/roll is finnicky, the aiming is sub par, weapons do little damage except for a few exceptions, it's largely too dark in places to avoid falling into invisible holes in the floor, and the platforming was great in some places, but horrible in others. This is mainly due to it being far too dark to actually see the tiny brick sticking out of the wall 15 feet away that Drake is supposed to jump to. Oh and it bothered me how you'd sometime fall off without actually meaning to, in Assassin's Creed when Altair would fall off, he'd grab the edge, preventing falling. Drake does this at some points, but there were many times when I'd think he would grab the edge but instead falls off, and dies. The story was a tad cliche, but fun at least. The biggest thing is those godawful quick time events though! They threw them in so randomly, I don't think I ever got past a single one the first time. The AI got a little bit frustrating after a while, those stupid lasers always somehow able to lock onto my head even as I'm doing rolls and zigzags to avoid them. Oh and the grenade throwing sucked, I couldn't ever aim with the six axis.

That being said, the animations and graphics were excellent, the melee combat system was pretty good, and I liked the way they styled the gun combat, with Drake being so quick. The AI, while slightly overpowered, was a nice change of pace since they were quite a challenge at parts. I thought the level design was cool, just too dark in spots. Voice acting was great, and I really liked the characters.

All in all, I liked Uncharted, it was fun, a little frustrating, but come on, IGN's PS3 team talks about it like it's the greatest game ever. They said it's "damn near perfect." Sure it was fun, but damn near perfect it was not.
