Homefront the movie? Cause that's all I'm getting from the trailer. Well that and explosions...
They are remaking Red Dawn, a movie that I believe Homefront was heavily inspired by.
It kind of easy to do when the guy who wrote the script for Homefront ALSO MADE RED DAWN! I mean, that was one of its selling points for crying out loud.
Although of course the game's campaign sucked. -_- I mean yeah they came out with an AWESOME book based on the game but not many people have read it.

Huh, someone in Hollywood still hasn't realized that the Cold War's been over for 23 years (I was born the same year). red Dawn, despite being a schlocky 80's action flick, is famous because of how it played upon some the -very- real fears of people who lived through the Cold War. Nobody is sitting at home these days, peering out their drawn curtains and calling the authorities because they think their slightly off-normal neighbour is a North Korean Spy who is gathering intel for the Red invasion.

Another remake of an old classic which completely misses the point of why the classic is held up as one. Ah well, I'll probably catch it on Netflix, and I look forward to Moviebob tearing it to pieces.

Plus, the original Red Dawn at least tried to tell a bigger story than. "YEAH! MASH THE DIRTY RED SCUM! KILL THE COMMIES! KILL KILL!"

If anything, it could be considered a powerful ANTI war story about the loss of innocence children experience in an invasion, and how no side is truly the "Moral Hero" when it comes to war. Though executives wanted to shoe horn a happy ending in anyways so they said America won the war off screen.

Still, something tells me the movie will forgo all that questionable morals in favor of "HELLZ YEAH! AMERICA!"
Indeed, and the interactions between the Cuban communist guy and the Russians was also interesting imo. Frankly, if you pay attention, Red Dawn has some crazy undertones.

WOLVERINES!!!

Ahem, yes well... I liked the original Red Dawn. Thought it was a fantastic film, just generally entertaining really.

However, this remake will probably suck like most remakes. I'll probably give it a shot and watch it, though.

It may be a well loved movie, but it is not a classic by any stretch of the imagination. It is made for a specific audience of gun enthusiasts, weekend warriors, and historians who were disappointed that the Cold War ended in a whimper not a bang.

Also, the paranoia you speak of ended sometime in the 70s. It was nonexistent when Gorbechev became the leader of Communist party. By the time the movie came out, the Cold War was on its last legs and everyone knew it, even the most oblivious person living in bumblefuck, middle of nowhere.

As for being a mindless fun movie, it is too politically motivated to pull that off effectively.

A Red Dawn remake with communist Chinese in place of communist Russians. The whole idea is a joke. I'm pretty sure were an invasion to ever happen the number of armed civilians in the north west alone would ruin their plans. (and yes, I need full auto for duck hunting)
China's standing army is larger than the population of the United States. Unless a big city is invaded, there is not enough bullets to stop them.

Also, a nuclear bomb, no matter how good or bad it is, is still a nuclear bomb.

Uh...no.

I've seen the original, and this looks to suck massive dick.

I see no one with Swayze's presence or anything that makes this interesting. Hopefully the actual insurgency manages to be some intense shit, but I'm not holding out for much.

I just love how the invaders do massive paradrops, making them easy targets for F-35 JSF aircraft, Patriot missiles among other things, and of course, unload armored brigades in the middle of the streets like the US forgot to deploy armored regiments.

And it seems like we have nothing to up the ante. No nuclear weapons, no Orbital Friendship Cannon, no Tactical Sonic Rainnuke, nothing.

BTW, the enemy is NOT Chinese. It's the North Koreans, who apparently used an EMP device (just like a certain mediocre FPS released last year).

North Korea, not China. Still looks pretty stupid though. And why the hell are they marines in this one? I was only kind of excited because I wanted to see some kids in high school struggle and fight even having no prior experience. Having them be marines kind of defeats the point.

And for this argument No this is a ridiculous Idea.
The US spends 40% of the worlds military spending numbers don't matter when a predator drone is above your head.
China while a decent enemy would not stand a chance against the combined NATO forces
Considering it's North Korea as an american enemy that is LAUGHABLE.
Also high school kids against an invading enemy using improvised explosives and guerilla tactics sound familiar (Tomorrow when the war began)

Looks mentally painful- Can we please stop with this "Fuck Yeah American Freedom" lark? It's horrendously cheesy, one dimensional and simple-minded.

The backdrop is ridiculous, as it was on MW2, MW3 (Russians getting to Paris in 24 hours? LMAO)and Homefront. But if you put a little bit of thought into it, getting those kind of situations is possible by coming up with some alternative history.

You could quite simply create an alternative timeline where Russia, China and all the Communist states enter into a socialist union, as the international socialists advocated, so they all are apart of one super-state. The Cold War doesn't end, and then you borrow the idea from End War where space technology renders launching nuclear ICBM's as ineffective so when WW3 happens we don't end up in the Fallout universe. Then we need a flash-point- it could be China invading Taiwan, or the USA invading Cuba, and a shit-storm happens- Perhaps an international socialist invasion through Alaska/Canada and into the USA and also through Europe.

There you go- WW2 style WW3- and an occupied America. Then for a laugh you can have D-Day style landings on the East Coast by the NATO European powers. Just so the Brit's take all the credit and remind Americans in future years how "we saved your asses in WW3!"

Is this ego stroking for the Americans?
What I gathered was:
a) our freedom is taken from us so we fight to get it back
b) Out on Thanksgiving

Wasn't Thanksgiving when colonists from Europe tried to settle in America but were dying, but the local people pitied them and gave them food and help? Isn't this ironic that America is being invaded when in a way, the colonists who founded Thanksgiving were 'invaders' themselves?

Can we stop with the America Vs THE WORLD premise? It's boring, old and gives Americans who live in a bubbled existence a wrong impression of the world. It's the age of the internet where people across the world can communicate more freely and discrimination based on nationality is slowly falling. So why the crap do we still have awfulness like this coming out? It's like some people got bored of the America Vs Russia/Arabs and thought up of other countries that would want to threaten America. I wonder how long it'll take in till America Vs Antarctica.

Thor, what in the name of Yggdrasil are you doing in this movie? Shouldn't you be off hammering people in the face?

MARINES FUCK YEAH MARINES FUCK YEAH

But my guess: when you've borrowed your plot from a mediocre ass FPS (Homefront), you might as well borrow some of the more less-than-notable points, such as a U.S. Marine whose main purpose was to be silent and fly a helicopter for one part. But who knows, maybe they'll borrow the uber aggro male who disregards stealth when it's required, the female who exists solely to get shot at, the black guy, and the partially Korean guy somewhere in there.

Then again, someone has to teach the kids insurgent warfare, so...

But seriously, this re-imagining doesn't look too good, save for a focus on more urban warfare I guess. But I seriously wonder why the hell someone thought Red Dawn needed a remake.

"Unaware of the Forces that Threaten Our Freedom"

Eugh... made me want to puke there. If anything, they're more inclined to see threatening forces when there aren't any at all.

I think I'll just stick with the original, and last year's 'Tomorrow When the War Began', thanks.

Seriously. Red Dawn is something that is referenced in popular culture, and not remade.

China's standing army is larger than the population of the United States. Unless a big city is invaded, there is not enough bullets to stop them.

China's standing army is 2,285,000 (and 800,000 reserves) US population 314,134,000 (Oregon alone has 3,871,859); Your only off by 310 million people. Still a moot point China's Total Navy Ships: 972 and Merchant Marine Strength: 2,012. China couldn't mobilize half it's army overseas if it wanted too, let alone supply it. China's army is the world largest and one of the worst trained and equipped.

Exact numbers aren't available but number of civilian guns in US is about 270,000,000 (875,000 handguns) (that's about 88 guns per hundred people), making for about 3.4 million guns in Oregon alone by population trends, even if most of those are .22 it's still a very bad day.

As for bullets the the US, we produce 14 billion small rounds annually, with about 10 billion rounds of all calibers sold in the US. There are about twice as many primers sold in the US as bullets so it's safe to assume a LOT of people hand load (I know I do).

China has a single aircraft carrier so we don't need to worry about their planes; they do have about 7500 tanks but the ability to move them over seas is non existent.

I'll say it again, the premise is a stupid joke, and the US would be a very bad day for any invader.

Edit* apparently the enemy in the movie is supposed to be North Korea. I won't even call them a threat other than nuclear.
