The boring one
Hot take incoming (that one may leave a fuming crater).

I don't like Henry Cavill very much, as an actor. I don't remember having seen him in any scene where he looked more like a character than like a kid playing pretend to be that character.

Finished manga volume 10 of Made in Abyss, I have 3 episodes of the anime to go and then I think that's as far as I go. There's still 1 volume and a couple chapters to go, but I can't stand it any longer.

I refuse to read any further if Faputa is joining the party. It's as bad as Vegeta joining the team in Dragon Ball and shacking up with Bulma. Faputa is irredeemable, and yet everybody is constantly treating her with kid gloves. It's infuriating! In the very first encounter we see with Reg she stabs her claw into his wounded belly button and draws blood. This is our introduction to the character, and it's only downhill from there. Later she shoves her arm down his throat into his stomach and beats him from the inside, because he tries to stop her from slaughtering all the villagers. It's really horrible, and probably the second worst assault Reg has ever received, but afterwards, he's all "don't ever do that again!" like this is some little spat between friends. Then she attacks Riko, but her own robot friend steps in to take the blow instead. Then she slaughters all the villagers. And eats them. But I guess it's ok, even though most of them are innocent, and they don't really mind being killed and eaten if it's for the princess for whatever reason. I hate it! I hate her! She's been completely irredeemable from the moment she's been introduced and the only reason she wasn't branded as the villain of the arc is because she was holding a protagonist card. I have no idea why the fandom seems to love her so much. In my opinion the character has crossed the moral event horizon, I don't care how cute they look when they are curled up sleeping!

Like, what the heck happened to the writing since they entered the 6th layer? It used to be really good! Nanachi's whole introductory arc beginning at Orb Piercer was absolutely fantastic, and Mitty's death is probably in my top 10 most heart-wrenching moments in anime. And that was set up in less than 2 hours. I also teared up a bit at the end of episode 3 when Riko started out on her journey into the abyss. The second season is 5 hours long, is one arc, and nothing in it comes close to being as effective. I don't care about any of the new characters that are introduced, and our established protagonists are pretty well side-lined for large segments at a time, especially Nanachi. Frankly, I was laughing at how ridiculous some of the supposed tragedies were. I don't know, I guess the writer must be getting burned out or something. That or he's too busy jerking off to loli porn to construct a proper plot any more.

I see the violence against children fetish is still very much present in this series.

We call someone like Faputa a Designated Hero and Unintentionally Unsympathetic. Glad I chose not read nor watch Made in Abyss, because I had a feeling the creator would try to pull shit like this. This has become a real big problem with the anime/manga industry that has only gotten worse around the 2010s. No regrets skipping this.

Ranma 1/2 I do not find funny at all.

I've been listening to the Into the Spider-verse soundtrack, and I just cannot find more than one song I like enough to add to my active playlists. Didn't really notice this when I watched the movie, but man the Into the Spider-verse soundtrack is just on another level.

Was there ever a possibility of it going away? There's a lot of fetishes that seem to come and go, but that one in particular is pretty much baked into the core of the series.

Yeah, it's pretty much why I walked the fuck away from it. I find the entire concept of Made in Abyss rather genius - it's simple yet bursting with potential, but the icky kids stuff and prolapse imagery was not what I signed up for.

What is this? Just random insults at Ranma 1/2?
Look, it ain't the worst thing ever, but it does nothing for me. The same lady who did this, did Inuyasha, which I hate even more.

Yeah, well, Trigun is still one of the cringyest shows I've ever seen. So there.
Yeah, yeah; blah, blah, blah. We've already done this bit, and I would take Trigun over either of them. There is nothing cringe about Trigun. Look up an anime called Junk Boy, and you will see what true cringe looks like.

I know we've already done this, which is why I'm confused as to why you brought up Ranma again out of nowhere.

To be honest, most of the potential is wasted. Here's this impossible pit full of fantastic scenery and magical treasures, let's race to the bottom as fast as possible and not have any of the main characters find a single artifact in 60 chapters!

Technically it was with Inuyasha first. Why I brought it up was because it popped in my head. Nothing more, and nothing less. Moving on.

They have their points, but at least Spider-Verse has a planned out story. I don't know what they're doing with Mission Impossible. The Dune franchise is a long ass book series, so there is that, but I'm not interested in it. Rise of the Beast is mostly self-contained, aside from a stinger cameo with the GI Joe.

James Gunn is just going to make the new DC movies visually, tonally, and narrative-wise no different from the MCU

Nothing to make DC distinct from the MCU, its just gonna be more of the same visual and acted tripe I've seen more movies like Spiderman Homecoming and Thor Ragnarok.

That's my hot take.

While I wouldn't go that far with James Gunn, I'm not interested in his movies, because of WB's policies, hypocritical politics, and backs stabbing racist and sexist jackasses. I'm sure they'll be good overall, but it shouldn't just be under the vision of one guy. I know they'll have other directors for different projects, but Gunn can only do so much.

EDIT for clarity: Yes because DC's current trajectory has just been so successful. /s

And I don’t think he will, remember Gunn has - as I understand it - essentially been given Kevin Feige’s job. He’s not just gonna direct stuff but he’s their lead creative vision officer. So I’d say since DC is still willing to make stuff like Joker or The Batman, Gunn is going to have very broad power to make the movies he’s making his way, and exert considerable influence over the ones he isn’t.

You know, these Viva La Dirt, Epic NPC Man thingies ? Good production value and nice ideas but vastly sabotaged by their total incapacity to write up a punchline.

I just looked at the most recent ones on their FB before checking here, so I disagree somewhat. Not hilarious, I agree, but ok.

I must have already rambled here about gamified plots, where the scriptwriters have no idea how to wrap their challenges and mysteries in a story, so they simply go with the baddie being a stand-in for them and going "haha and now you have to solve my riddles and survive the trials I have designed for you, we'll call this our little game muhaha". Or the "oho this archeological piece has a riddle carved behind it, it could be a map to the next archaeological piece". Lowest level of scriptwriting.

Welp, watching the semi-serious DBZ abridged reminds me of its zero plot fighting scene equivalent : the tournament.
