Shouldn't it be common sense by now that you don't a move a machine while a disk is inside? I mean honestly, what would posses people to move it while it is being used? I mean really, that is not a smart move for any console, whether it be 360, ps3, Wii dvd-player or whatever.

Seriously, who onearth is actually dumb enough to move the console while it's on anyway. Other than a portable CD player or a laptop, both of which are designed to be mobile, it's a pretty stupid idea to tilt anything while a disc is spinning. After all, you don't turn your DVD player on its side mid way through watching a film, do you? Idiots will do idiotic thing, and of course they will blame the hardware rather than their own stupidity. It's not a design flaw, it's just something that happens with static, disc reading electronics.
Thank you! Common sense people, please.

Haha. I've moved my PS3 countless times trying to get a better WiFi reception and nothing ever got damaged. Good job Microsoft!

So did the Xbox and so did the 360 when mine did a frontflip off a small ledge FOREVER RUINING MY BELOVED MODERN WARFARE I!

This isnt news....more of a warning that should be on small print in the manual

FFS this is common sense!
You shouldn't need a goddamn sticker on the front to know not to move the console while the disk is spinning!

WWWHHHAAATTT? You mean I can't shake the delicate electronic device every time I get killed!? This is completely unacceptable. I will have to buy the PlayStation 3 for its shake while playing feature.
On a more serious note, this is a misuse problem but also probably a design flaw. If you decide to run around with it or shake it when it warns you not to while playing then its misuse. If it says not to move it while playing then simply don't. However since all he did was set it upright and it sawed into the disk just from that that could be a problem. If its that sensitive then its probably a flaw, but definitely not enough to ever influence what console I buy.

all 360s destroy disks if moved while running. i used to have to keep mine vertical for lack of space, and i was always taking ridiculous measures to avoid touching anything connected to the console for fear of ruining a game, and even after taking unreasonable measures to avoid it, i still lost one disk to the shredder. not only is that completely ridiculous, it's completely unnecessary. i've seen videos on youtube of people fixing this problem with a dollar's worth of materials, it's just a pain in the ass to tear your Box up then put it back together. i was sure the Slim model would correct this issue, and even though i'm not gonna buy a Slim, i'm pissed that they didn't

Personally I can't think of a situation where I would be moving my Xbox when it was on. I guess you'll just have to think before you move your console.

By the way people, I agree nothing reading a disc should be moved while it's being used, (excluding mobile devices,) but if a company's going to make a product be vertical, they should be able to have half a brain and realize accidental tipping over just became a real possibility, unlike any DVD player that's always horizontal. Portable CD players never scratch the disc. A mechanism already exists to protect a spinning disc from damage when the player's moved. MS revised the 360's design. This was the perfect time for them to fix one of their design flaws. That's why people are mad this problem still exists.
You have no Credible Excuse, YOU CAN PUT THE CONSOLE HORIZANTALY, and besides the PS2 and the PS3 are the EXACT SAME WAY!
Just to be clear, are you saying you disagree with what I have in bold? Do you think a company should be fine with making a tall product that breaks something if it tips over, or even begins to tip over?

I stand corrected with the 1st to be vertical. The PS2 was first, but didn't it require an optional stand to help it stay up? The PS3 & Wii can be vertical or horizontal too, but I've never heard of them scratching discs like the 360 does. (Maybe they do & I just don't hear about it because I don't read as much about them.)

Yes, we can put the 360 horizontally. That's how I have mine. Personally, I wouldn't stand my game console on end any more than I would stand my VCR or DVD player on end. However, wouldn't the "credible excuse" come from putting the 360 in the same position it's in in the advertisement? MS always has it vertical in their ads, so people have it vertical. Usually, using a product as it's advertised is a smart thing .

This is how I lost my first copy of Perfect Dark Zero. Nothing new. Seriously, who moves a console these days while the disk is spinning? Not I (anymore).

Well, since I don't have a habit of popping in a game or DVD and proceeding to ballroom dance with my console during the loading screens, I can't see it as a design flaw.

FAIL, MICROSOFT. FAIL.
I mean, they may have fixed the Red Ring of Death issue, but isn't this worse?
However, I suppose most people don't really move their 360s whilst it's playing a disk.
Correction Fail Chester Fail next time pay attention you nimrod!!!

And who the hell moves any console while the disc is spinning. DURP shifting the weight on something that is spinning a fragile disc is a good idea DURP

And this is why the guys at Destructoid can't have nice things.

I wonder what tomorrow's news will bring.

This just in. 360 can't play while submerged underwater. Nick Chester hospitalized after receiving large bolt of electricity from wet 360 slim.

Why move the damn thing anyways? Aren't you supposed to sit on the couch with your controller and wait for the game to be loaded?

And in those same ads what you don't see is someone dropkicking it while it is vertical and reading a disc. What you do see is them on a nice flat STABLE surface like they should be if you are going to have it vertical. Consumer stupidity is not a design flaw.

Why would you move your console while it is running anyway? I really don't get why that would happen in the first place...

Hate to repeat what pretty much everyone else has said, but why move it when it's on anyway? Would it kill some people to turn it off first?

Huh, seems like a common sense thing to me. My little brother broke my rock band disc the night I got it by picking the thing up. You guys should click the link, it even has a video of this happening. Very funny :)

i would say more people have thier console horizantal becuase that is the smarter way to have it, if you put it vertical then it should be in a place protected by something or up where nobody but another human being can get it(yes that could be hard if you have a cat) but what i am saying is, it is no design flaw that this happens and anyone who puts their console up verticly and accidentaly knocks it over and screws up their disk, then procedes to complain about when it is not microsofts fault. putting your console up verticly and knocking it over or moving it while it is on and a dick is in there is putting the disk on death row.... this happens for ALL consoles if they are put up verticly.

EDIT:i have been in that situation, i have acidentaly knocked my xbox over while it was playing CoD: WAW and the dick was screwed up, i didin't complain to mircrosoft becuase i knew it was my own damn fault.
