You basically took my thoughts and put them into a coherant sentence. Just replace "Goddamn"! with "gorram".RedEyesBlackGamer said:NOT EVERY GODDAMN GAME NEEDS MULTIPLAYER!
Now that I got that out of the way, their logic baffles me. Trying to bring in a new audience with the third game in a trilogy is just stupid.
Bioware said that ME3 will be the end of Shephard's story but not the ME universe.Juuel said:I'm guessing they're thinking new players will go like "Mass Effect 3 is nice, i'll buy 1&2 too". I'd really rather not see a multiplayer in ME3, certainly not if it takes time from singleplayer development. If not, they still could those resources to something else.RedEyesBlackGamer said:Trying to bring in a new audience with the third game in a trilogy is just stupid.
Which is a different team than the main production team? Phew what a relief! I was worried there for a second.Andy Chalk said:It's just a rumor at this point but it's a "strong" one, according to Eurogamer, which said that Mass Effect 3 will ship with a standalone multiplayer component being created by BioWare's Montreal studio.
Someone didn't read the article, apparently. The multiplayer is supposedly being handled in the same way that Co-op was in Modern Warfare 2, a separate game mode from the campaign featuring a series of co-op missions that have no connection to the main story what-so-ever except for maybe some similar locations or objectives. It's not the story mode, it is a, for lack of better wording, co-op challenge mode. From what the article suggests, there are a bunch of missions and maps where up to 4 players complete together that is not connected to the single player campaign at all.Aisaku said:How would that even work!? You join other players for each mission? Do other players just jump into a main player's game using the other squad members? What about the individual story scenes? This has WRONG written all over it. D:
It is true that they said there would be more Mass Effect games beyond Shepard's story, it doesn't make sense to try and draw players to a game where they have no idea what's going on. Imagine going with friends to see the "Return of the Jedi" when you haven't seen the "A New Hope" or "The Empire Strikes Back." In my case, I was forced to go see the newest Resident Evil movie even though the last one I saw was the first movie and I haven't played a RE game since Resident Evil 1 on the PS1.robandall said:Bioware said that ME3 will be the end of Shephard's story but not the ME universe.Juuel said:I'm guessing they're thinking new players will go like "Mass Effect 3 is nice, i'll buy 1&2 too". Co-op was the only form of MP that wouldn't be a deal breaker for me. Chaining techniques with buddies could be fun.
I'm not sure how EA can further penetrate the mainstream market after ME2 being voted the game of 2010 by virtually everyone and everything.
