Multiplayer Mass Effect Rumors Bubble Up Once Again

DustArma[]So...

1) I think Casey already said that ME3 would have no multiplayer a few months ago.

2) Even if the game had multiplayer, it's being developed by a different studio, it's standalone and most likely using its own budget, there's simply no way this will affect the SP component.

3) The coop for the looks of it has nothing to do with the SP in terms of missions, so none of that "jump in and out of story missions and ruin inmersion" thing.

4) It looks to be completely optional to play.

So... Why is this a problem?
Because people will use any opportunity they can to complain, logic be damned.

Mass Effect 3 just keeps sounding worse, and worse by the minute.

Just turn it into COD in space and be done with it EA!
Are you kidding me? It might have a multiplayer. How the fuck is this going to ruin the game?

I guess my heads still stuck in 'old school' mode today. I suppose it would but...how are they gonna pull it off?

Attack of the Shep clones? o_O

Can we at least hold back the fanboy rage until we see how this turns out. Honestly, gamers are the only group whose reaction to getting extra stuff is to say "fuck you". Games can have a good solid singleplayer and multiplayer.
Impossible! Things can't be good! We are gamers, and thus know the future and it is always bad and complaining wildly while still purchasing what we're complaining about will always make things better.

Can it qualify as clones when each individual Shepard is most likely both physically and psychologically different (player decisions)?

Presumably: Here's a mission, you are either a custom character or a random soldier. Do shit.

It might even just be a simple survival mode for all we know.

Dude...chill...just chill ok?

If no one had a bit of nerd rage boards like this wouldn't exist ok? I'm now going to hold my judgement and hope that this is wonderful, chocolaty coated, super awesome with a cherry on top addition to the game...for your sake.

What the fuck. I don't even know how that could have come across as angry.

And all I'm asking is that we stop shouting "RUINED FOREVER" anytime someone says anything is happening in Mass Effect 3.

The source added that there will only be a small number of multiplayer missions, but they're designed to be played over and over again.
So...like every other multiplayer in which you shoot a dozen people for ten minutes, then the same on about ten different maps?

Ugh...Mass Effect is the kind of game series that not only will it not benefit from multiplayer, but also the kind of game in which multiplayer just wouldn't really work. Kind of like The Darkness, or Dead Space.

I think it was your icon...Jack Black...I figured you were screaming it all. ^_~

Sorry about that...no harm I hope.

NOT EVERY GODDAMN GAME NEEDS MULTIPLAYER!

Now that I got that out of the way, their logic baffles me. Trying to bring in a new audience with the third game in a trilogy is just stupid.
One of the most simple, yet apparently difficult to grasp, truths I have read all day. I agree fully.

Considering that Mass Effect 3 is already getting three additional months of development time than what they had originally scheduled, I'm not worried about this at all. I could easily see a Battlefield-esque multiplayer for the series, but from the sounds of what exatly they're adding on (stuff that can be played repeatedly), it sounds like a vestigial add-on more than anything else.

People, this game ships in 9 MONTHS. And judging from what we've seen at E3, we've got nothing to worry about on single-player development schedule.

I have another.

NOT EVERY GAME THAT HAS MULTIPLAYER IS RUINED FOREVER, ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN THE MULTIPLAYER COMPONENT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SINGLEPLAYER AND IS BEING DEVELOPED BY A DIFFERENT STUDIO.

Ahem, caps lock off, anyway, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, the singleplayer, albeit shorter, can be argued to be as good or better than AC2's singleplayer, and the multiplayer is just great.

I was talking mostly about the second paragraph. I agree with the first, but I also agree with yours; adding multiplayer is only a bad thing when it takes away from the single player, which is by no means guaranteed, especially if they go with a multi-disc format again.

What I agree with fully is that their attempts to bring in a new audience in the third game is just stupid. I don't think it will ruin it, and Mass Effect 3 will still be one of the biggest releases of the holiday season and early next year for me. But to try and cater to new players this far into the franchise only does the actual fans a disfavor. The best/worst example is the final episode of Trigun, which recapped the entire series in the first half and stuffed an extremely unsatisfactory ending into the last half. I doubt and really hope this won't be as big a disaster as the end of that otherwise truly amazing anime, but the point is that catering to those new to the story in the final installment of it is never a good idea, and there is no good reason to do it.

I just don't get it.
I think it's called EA.

But yeh, if I see multiplayer in my Mass Effect 3 and even get so much of a whiff of the singleplayer campaign suffering because of it, I will not be amused.

I'm confused by a few things.

1) They're adding a stand alone multi-player option. If you don't like it, don't play it. Yeah, it is possible they spread themselves too thin, but I suppose if this is true it's why the release date got pushed back. Personally I'd love to try co-op mass effect. The co-op missions in CoD:MW2 were my favorite parts of the game.

I would also like to know how one would determine that the single-player being subpar is necessarily caused by the addition of multiplayer. Not saying that it can't be the case, but how could you be sure that's the reason?

2) Why wouldn't EA want to bring in people during the third game in a trilogy? If they like it they'll probably go and buy the other two games. The latest game in the series is likely to be the most refined. Trying to hook people with an untested, brand new IP is hard. But a series that already has a lot of people talking about it? That's easier.

I'm actually pretty sure I heard that the multiplayer would be a whole new, original set of missions, not woven into the single plater campaign. Kind of like Portal 2.
