Terrible idea. If my parents named me after a character from a sci-fi story as mediocre as Mass Effect, I would be a little insulted. Seriously, how is your kid ever going to survive high-school? Life has enough challenges, don't make it worse.

Coming from a name nerd (who studies trends, meaning etc etc) Tali'Zorah is fine. The name pool is broadening, we have plenty of children being called Neveah, Florence, Indigo, Clementine, Cruz, Maximus etc etc
I honestly doubt the OP will be ruining his child's life. Taken out of context to the average person (its a smoosh name) and a pretty one too. Both names by themselves are legitimate. And if we can name children after literary, movie etc characters why not video game ones? Although the point was that the OP was taking inspiration from the game and not making a statement.

Just reporting to those who were wondering, she's born, and happy and healthy. The doctor and the people who filled out the birth certificate love her name. I'm pretty sure she's the greatest thing that's ever happened on this Earth : )

First, you shoul name your child so that the name will work for your child in a positive manner throughout her life. Depending on where you are in the world that might differ. So choosing a strong name that will work for her while still making you happy, we should look at some name variations that sounds like Tali'Zora. Most people have already gone into the reasons why splitting the name in two is a good idea (and I agree) so I won't go into that.

Tali - typically a girls name but not necessarily depending on culture. Hebrew for Dew of Heaven
Talia or Tahlia - no longer as popular as Tali (probably thanks to ME). Popular east European name and means just Dew in Hebrew.
Natalia - A rather popular Russian and Latin name. It used to carry the meaning Born on Christmas Day.
Natalie - Western version.
Likeness of Zohra
Zohra - is of Arabic origin and means Venus
Zara - is of Arabic origin and means Blooming Flower
Sarah - a popular name of Hebrew origin and means Princess

Again, they did studies on this. People actually do care--it's a well documented and researched field of study.
Tali is a perfectly normal name that's been in use for centuries. It's either short for Talia, or Natalie/Natalia, or a name in its own right. Tali'Zorah specifically is more of an odd choice but it is a good name and there's no reason to think anything of it. The only issue I would suggest is that having a first name with an apostrophe in it will cause her issues on forms, sites and more, throughout her life. It *will* be a bugbear that 99% of the time people will be confused or uncertain how to deal with a first name that has an apostrophe in it. Even a hyphenated first name can be difficult to process.

Inspired by, but not the same as, and both are good human names. Just please don't name your good human child with a Turian name; those bastards started the war and I'll be damned before I forget!

Having a name that stands out can be both good and bad and the image a name carries also has a major impact. My first name is Cornelius, and it's not the name I'm called by, but I still use it professionally over my middle name, which is what most people call me. So yeah, this went all over the Internet, and this thread is all over the place. Kotaku and other blogs did articles about it, etc, etc. I've been busy, well...waking up at 3AM for Tali and piecing it all together in my mind, and I had no idea that it spread the way it did. Cool, really. Maybe in 8-10 years Tali can jack into the matrix and see all these old caches of Web 2.0 threads and blogs about her existence : )

Though this reminds me of the guy who changes his legal name to (First) I am (Middle) Whatever (Last) You say I am, after Eminem's song don't know how that one panned out but Tali Zorah is cute she could always just go with Tali or TaliZ for short when she's older and I find it hilarious when you tell your friends you wanted a nice Quarian name! So cute! If your wife is happy with the name and you are too no worries about such a cute name after a great character!
