Name that stain!

My housemates are filth. Plates, bins, food, and clothes are frequently thrown because they've gone beyond what could safely be considered reasonably-mouldy.

One thing that leaves me perplexed, however, is the brightly coloured stains that keep occurring on the toilet seat. First it got stained bright pink, and now it has been stained bright blue. The only reasonable explanation I can think of is that someone is puking up cheap alco-pops and always neglecting to put the seat up. Unlikely.

Am I being naive? Is there some kinky sexual thingumy that I'm over-looking? Is it smallpox or some other lethal biological culture? Any ideas??

Those are some strange stains...what it could be i really don't know.

You say its on the toilet seat. Is it on the bit you sit on or on the top of the lid of the seat? I don't know why i want to know where it is exactly but maybe it will give me inspiration and i will suddenly discover the answer!

EDIT: Right, i done some research but i am still not sure what the answer is.

Firstly, the pink stain could be a bacteria called serratia (apparently) which is supposed to thrive in a bathroom environment. It produces a reddish pigment called prodigiosin (again, apparently so). Given what you have said about your housemates this seems quite likely.

The blue stain on the seat could have been caused by a cleaning product called Lysol (it may be common where you are but not to me), there have been other cases of that stain appearing on the sites i checked out. However, what you have said about your housemates has led me to believe that this isn't the case as for this to happen they would have to do some cleaning.

I assume it is some bad cleaning chemical they applied then did nothing about. Those are a rave party of colours.

It was infact red dye and surprisingly enough I was dying my hair in the bathroom. It just all got a bit messy, pink toilet, pink towels, pink sink. I don't do red dye anymore. lol
