I'd like to quote Bob Page from Deus Ex;

"Bob Page: A bunch of pretentious old men playing at running the world. But the world left them behind long ago. We are the future."

So everyone knows: NATO = US.

That being said, as so many others have mentioned, you can't infiltrate a group that doesn't have a group. They will arrest some poor stupid internet hippies, call them terrorists, lock them up, and the world will actually be made a worse place for it. The fact that people endorse this type of thing tells me that the world is full of retarded sheep. I mean, in order to do this, they are going to have to invade all kinds of peoples privacy. They will catch some guilty parties, but since they only really care about catching parties, rather than guilty parties, innocent folks will get caught up in it as well. They will place new legislation on the books in NATO countries (though, mostly in the US), and then we are all one step closer to having an authoritarian overlord to tell us when to jump.

That being said, the more resources we throw at more things, the faster it will fall and then can be rebuilt. So, have at it.

Edit: As one final note on this subject. They attack companies that treat people like crap, but it's the people that let it happen. They attacked the Sony website because Sony are digital Tyrants. No one really disputes this fact, but at the same time, few have taken the route I have and simply decided not to buy their products anymore. They exist simply because the average consumer is too much of a coward to be without the next iteration of (insert random exclusive title). Grow a set.

It appears that NATO is also a slave to American foreign policy, just like Mastercard and Visa.

I am sure CIA is going after Anon. Maybe other intelligence agencies also. So what's the specialty of NATO in this? How can they succeed where others didn't?

The governments of the world are afraid of a band of internet vigilantes to the point that they want to "persecute" them for revealing information that the governments don't want their own people to see.
I don't know whether to be more concerned or more amused by this.

A lot of people still don't seem to have a real grasp of what Anonymous is.

It's like saying you'll go after every poet who signs with -Anon.

There are hundreds of different "hacking" (for the most part hacking consists of going on a forum somewhere and spamming pronz)groups, who all use the name Anonymous.

In this way they get to play on the fear that the word seems to spread now, and at the same time it serves to draw attention away from the actual group committing the offence.

The short of it; Anonymous really just does mean anonymous.

ANON: No, lol newfag. ur gay.

How I would do it.
Summoner: SONY ARE DICKS! THEY DON'T LIKE MUDKIPS!
ANON: WE ACCEPT YOU!!!!!

Anonymous has proven one thing clear as crystal.

Free speech is dead. Say one negative thing about them in the wrong place, and your whole life will be destroyed. they have made the switch from pranksters to a online terrorist group. Anyone who would actively try to completely gut your life because you said something negative is nothing less a group of sociopaths with way to much power on their hands.
This is true, but in the opposite way implied. They have proven that free speech is dead, as their exercising and fighting for said right is responded to with threats of global government attack.

Damn. Reading this thread alone is like reading s fucking movie script interspersed with Nostradamus end of the world predictions. I could eat through buckets of popcorn on the news room threads alone. Seriously people, read your own posts and tell me that they don't sound like shit from a movie. Tell me. I think most of you are taking this WAY too seriously.

The answer, to me at least, isnt to fight them but hire their ring leaders. I know that might come as a shock to some but think about it. If these ramen sucking basement dwellers can offline Sony for a month then imagine the miracles they could do with a budget. Because if someone like google or microsoft or apple or sony sat them down, gave them a blank cheque, and said "Design us an online interface that allows us to do our jobs and doesn't compromise our customers" THEY WOULD DO IT.
And then one day they'd get tee'd off at their boss and post the root name and password on 4chan just before moving to Cancun. This is like hiring a child molester to babysit because they "really like kids". The trait you need in your security personnel is integrity, which these people DO NOT HAVE. It's also valuable to have a twisted, devious little mind, but you can't buy the loyalty of people who have no loyalty. You cannot rely on the honor of those with no honor.

Calling this criminal activity "hactivism" is just asinine. It's destruction of property. I don't care what your agenda is, if you're going around destroying things because you can, you're just another thug.

Anonymous is not exercising free speech or fighting for free speech. They are impeding the free speech of other people by force. If they actually want to exercise their free speech, they can buy ads and form political action committees and give lectures and PERSUADE people of their ideals. Instead, they engage in petty vandalism.

Oh I agree, most of them are probably scatterbrained ne'er-do-wells. But a few of them, hopefully, might just be talented individuals with a grudge. I'm all for reasoning with one's enemies before bringing out the proverbial ban-hammer.

This is the real life version of declaring war on the Shadow Broker, and NATO doesn't have Liara T'soni on their side.
