Well.
I'm amazed that no one's mentioned Heavy Gear, it was one of the better Mecha games I've ever played (next to Mechwarrior 2/Mercs/3).
Front Mission Evolved I've only played a few levels in. It doesn't seem -horrible- like some people say, but my tolerance for bullshit is higher than most, and it does have a lot of that.
Anyway, what we really need to know is what do you like about the Mecha games? Customizing your Mech? Fast-paced combat? Long-range tactical combat? The feel, the atmosphere? I mean, I have some Zoids game for Gamecube which could be classified as a Mech game, same thing with Robotech:Battlecry, but they really don't have the same sort of scale or customization as Mechwarrior 2, or the same sort of persistent story/salvaging/"growing" with your mech as Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries or Mechwarrior 3. Armored Core, I've only played through AC4 and loved it, a friend of mine showed me one on the PSP and it controlled well and felt good but I didn't have much time to play it.
MechAssault I found too "arcadey." It's fun, it's fast paced, but you don't get to configure your loadouts or customize your mech to the depth that Mechwarrior 3 had. Anyway, you should try Shattered Steel. Bioware will never make a sequel to it even though they teased me with one.
MechCommander and MC2 are basically Jagged Alliance or Commandos with Mechs. They're sorta just tactics games. And I love SRPGs, and I love RTT games, but I prefer being IN the Mech rather than seeing it from far away...
G-Nome I'm glad someone mentioned, which also has an RTS in the same world - Dominion: Storm over Gift 3.
Last, but definitely not least, is Earthsiege. Earthsiege and Earthsiege 2 are great games, but Starsiege was a fantastic Mech game. It came out in 99 so it looks similar to Mechwarrior 3, but you might prefer the weapons or story or the HERCs that are used. If you want some turn-based strategy games from that series, look up Mission Force: Cyberstorm and Cyberstorm 2: Corporate Wars. I loved those both, but Starsiege is still my favorite out of the Earthsiege series. It later evolved into Tribes, which I still hold dear to my heart (Tribes 2 anyway...) but those aren't mech games.
So, just to summarize, Mechwarrior 2, its expansions, 3, its expansion, Heavy Gear 2, then Heavy Gear 1 if you liked it. Those are my favorite Mecha games. If you want quicker more actiony with less tinkering around on your equipment and loadouts, go Mechassault or Front Mission Evolved, or Shattered Steel.

i know one of the developers personally and yes, they scrapped it
Please be kidding. And from your other post, yes, I would like his email, or some way to contact him. If he doesn't mind talking to random Mechwarrior fans, I would sorta like to at least know what happened and why development was canceled, maybe conduct an interview. Mektek would appreciate it.
