"Images of child abuse, child pornography - they are not legal in our cinemas. Why should you be able to see them on the internet?"
This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard, it IS illegal on the internet, but filtering the internet is not like making child porn illegal in cinemas, it's like banning all cameras and camcorders because someone somewhere might use them to film some child porn.

It's an outrageous overreaction that is not practical.

So basically, if you mention that child pornography might be involved, you can do whatever the fuck you want.
I'd like to start a proposition banning the Austrailian goverment from any forms of communication, after all. They might inexplicably spread child pornography.

On these previous note, above. In austrailia, i predict the google searches for forms of child porn have just jumped. Mostlky because people wan to see if it is REALLY that easy to find.

OT:
Poor Yahtzee, what they didn't tell anyone is that they will also ban anything else they like, or find inappopriate. Aka, Forums, because nobody likes them, and Porn, because they are dicks.

I'm still sort of curious in what Yahtzee sees in Australia.

And this is why I vote for the Greens.

They do not attempt this sort of crap. Also, this way, when one of the major parties goes and does something stupid, I don't have to feel responsible.

Although Labor did get my preferences... damn it.

It'll be just like the US mid west. Only with more poisonous creatures.
Yeah, but at least in the Midwest they respect a man's right to porn.

I remember reading something along the lines of "do anything in the name of the children and no one can argue with your cause." I could swear I read that in Mein Kampf, yeah, freedom ftw Australia.

...

...

What.

Last time I checked, films and books weren't forms of communication. Forms of communication include, although not exclusively, speech, letter-writing, telephone calls and drums.

Books and films are media. The Internet contains media, but in itself isn't any more a form of media than telephone calls are when you're playing music into your phone.
This hits the spot for me!

If they were truly on a mission to destroy child pornography they would be forming a world wide task force to deal with the uploaders and creators of the media and to prosecute the perpetrators which would tackle the real problem.

It's like sticking your head in the sand and saying "well if we can't see them coming for us we'll be safe"

This post wins.

And it was Benjamin Franklin who said that.

The bible belt states consume more porn than any where else.

And why wouldn't she, since this whole thing is basically the deformed child of the right wing factions who got her into Rudd's office. Our so called democracy doesn't allow us any real chance to express our mind on individual issues, because once a government is in power they assume the 'we know what's best' mantle and don't even bother listening to what people might want for the next three years.

I'm one of the seven people living in Australia, and I don't like you.

Also, you don't make a lot of sense. Proof read your comments before you post, so I can understand them and reply with a more appropriate rebuttal.

Oh, but of course the child pornographers put all their videos on easily accessible, unblocked sites. It's not even a little bit as though they actually make attempts to keep it secret, oh no.

The good news is that given the rampant stupidity shown by both major parties, the Greens have a pretty good chance to take control of the senate in this next election which would let them block any of this idiocy, hopefully they choose to and it doesn't get tossed in as a bargaining chip for some other BS legislation...
