Ros Phillips, a spokeswoman for the group FamilyVoice Australia [http://www.fava.org.au/], said she was "delighted" that the new Prime Minister is staying the course. "The underlying principle, you can't dispute - why should you treat the internet differently from any form of communications like films and books and so on," she said.
Because, Ms. Phillips, it's fundamentally different. Anybody who compares the internet to a film or book has no understanding of what the internet is. The interent is a network. It is not the content it delivers, it is not even the
medium of the content it delivers. It is the means by which the medium is delivered. It is more the movie camera than the movie. The pen rather than the book. If you think you can apply some sort of content filter to a pen to make it reject the content someone wants to create with it, you're either simply ignorant or insane.
