You know things like this have been happening since 1776. Look at the 1950's. And, god, do you Europeans project. Seriously, you guys need to get that Anti-Americanism checked by a shrink or something.

I think people are misinterpeting the situation or how and why lists like this are formed. Guys like John Lennon and others were put on various watch lists at differant times.

A lot of people forget about all the terrorism that did occur during the 1960s, and how much of it was planned by radicals who were stopped ahead of time, or simply didn't have the guts to pull the trigger (so to speak). For a long time it was "cool" to be on such lists, or to sit around and make bombs and act like you were going to try and overthrow the military industrial complex even if it went nowhere.

What's more in the US there are laws about protests (which I have mixed feelings about). Simply coordinating people to go after say logging, or gas drilling, or other things can cost people millions even if they don't act in a paticularly violent fashion.

Someone starts producing material which takes a strong, and perhaps stance against a legal, but contreversial activity like this is someone that the authorities are going to want to keep an eye on. To put things into perspective if this guy did use the movie he's supporting to rally people to say head out and blockade drilling sites, or sabotage equipment or whatever, the companies involved are going to say "hey, this guy pretty much broadcast this a million miles away, why didn't you do something about it?".

In this paticular case I think this is more a matter of the gas companies doing the drilling being the ones "behind it" rather than the goverment itself.

A lot of people are going to disagree with me (especially if they agree with him), but think of it as sort of like a case of stalking. Some dude is hanging around a girl being all creepy, but not doing anything illegal. This is a larger scale version of the police keeping an eye on that guy for a while. I think they are less concerned with him blowing up a plane or whatever than wanting to keep tabs on him for a bit. Probably due to complaints made by the industry.

If you were the guy running the companies, you might have concerns as well.

Guys like John Lennon who were all about the "message of the music" and the counter-culture (as opposed to Paul who seemed to be more about having fun) got put on lists because you had this dude who was going all over the place with girls like Yoko and talking about fighting the problem. If he told his millions of fans to do something, most of them would ignore him doubtlessly, but a lot would probably act. You advocate an anti-goverment position and have those kinds of resources and you become a person of note. The goverment won't arrest you, or prevent you from moving around, but they will keep an eye on you.

Enough rambling, but the bottom line is that I DO NOT *like* this, but it makes a degree of sense I suppose. You go shooting for contreversy, don't be surprised when you find it. The guy should be ecstatic on a lot of levels actually, he got noticed by the people it was addressing, dozens of movies on "issues" are totally ignored. The notoriety his situation has generated will probably mean that many people will see the movie because of this that otherwise would have ignored it. There are "radicals" who spend their lives baiting this kind of attention (and the validatin it brings) and never get it. :)

WHAT. Look, Ruffalo may or may not be a decent actor. (Hit and miss with me.) But he's NOT A TERRORIST. Seriously. He's not. Our government can be such morons sometimes.

Mark Ruffalo a terror threat? The guy's voicing his opinion about natural gas drilling and they say he's a terrorist?

The San Francisco Chronicle was right, that is really funny.

We overthrew an evil dictator in Iraq and gave freedom to an enslaved people. We were hated for it. China's government censors it's internet, North Korea is still a hell hole, and the Taliban are literally executing homosexuals and mutilating women for leaving abusive husbands.

We voted for Barack Obama, chose socialist healthcare, and you still talk like this?

I think you need to accept that you are a bigot.

Moreover, at this point both conservatives and liberals hate Homeland Security, as they tend to be opposed to civilian gun ownership as well as speaking out against large corporations.

You're not serious are you? I'm British but... you realise that A) comparing the entirety of America to Terrorism is a pretty stupid thing to say, and B) I doubt any of the Americans here had any thing to do with it...

What on Earth are you talking about? The Iraq war wasn't about "freedom" until WMDs and Saddamn Hussein went missing.

What do you mean, "socialist healthcare"? What's socialist about regulating the private insurance market? Do you know what socialism is?

I'm not sure this is completely surprising. I've never finished an episode, but a documentary going around called "Whale Wars" sort of lends credence to their decision to put him on the list. If you've never seen it, Whale Wars is a show about a group of pirates that attack Japanese whaling ships. It's not exactly the same, but we have to keep our eyes open, don't we?

And as long as Ruffalo isn't on the no-fly list, all he has to do is not blow anything up. Sounds easy.

That man is not a terrorist. He may be an actor, a documentary maker, a guy who might be the Hulk, a terrorist, but he is not a porn star!

*/obligatory Simpsons reference*
*serious*

... I can't think of a serious answer. This is both too funny and too sad for me to think of anything.
