New Mass Effect "Moving Forward"

Bioware recently held meetings to discuss the characters and story of the next Mass Effect.

There's been a lot of speculation about the next game in the Mass Effect series. While Bioware has confirmed that the new entry will <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120229-Mass-Effect-4-Will-Not-Feature-Shepard-or-Shepard-2>be separate from the saga of Commander Shepard, the developer has otherwise remained fairly mum on details involving anything to do with the new games. Recent Tweets from several Bioware employees, however, have pointed to progress.

"New #MassEffect story and main character reviews today," said cinematic director, <a href=https://twitter.com/KenThain/status/357248164035690496>Ken Thain. "This shit's gettin' real! I think the fans will be really excited to play this story." Mike Gamble, a producer on the Mass Effect series <a href=https://twitter.com/GambleMike/status/357325031480627200>also described internal meetings involving the new game. "Lots of great @masseffect meetings today. Things are really moving forward. It's great to be involved in the universe again." These follow a <a href=https://twitter.com/YanickRRoy/status/356964494817247234>July 15th Tweet from Yanick Roy, the director of Bioware Montreal, proclaiming that the new game will be "friendly both to old fans and newcomers."

Considering the uproar that <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/9506-Mass-Effect-3-Ending-Controversy>Mass Effect 3 inspired, it will be interesting to see both where <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120596-BioWare-Montreal-Takes-Over-Mass-Effect>Bioware Montreal takes the next iteration of the series, and how fans react to it. While there have already been some loudly proclaiming their intentions to boycott all things Bioware, we have a feeling there may be at least a few gamers itching to jump back into the franchise's universe.

I'm in.

As long as it's more Mass Effect, I'm in. They could do a lot to screw it up and make a disappointing product, but even if that happens, it's still more of what I want.

This will end well.

And by end well, I mean, "hordes of the bitter and depressed will queue up to take a dump in Bioware's letterbox."

Ah, Sure I'd give it a shot, if only to see where they are going to go with the story. Irrespective of the colour of the space magic, That arc is well and truly done.

It all depends on DA3 and their treatment of that storyline as to weather Bioware have any writing kudos anymore.

C'moooon, First Contact War. I wanna shoot me some arrogant Turian sonsabitches.
I was hoping for something centered around a non-human, just for the sake of opening up more story/setting options they couldn't have used previously. First Contact War could very easily end up as Halo with a coat of Mass Effect paint if they do a sloppy job of it. But if they did a good job, yeah, that'd be pretty awesome.

Actually now you've mentioned it, I kinda like your idea. Playing as a Krogan during the rebellion could be pretty kickass!

Considering I didn't at all mind the ending to ME3, I'll be interested in seeing what they come up with.

Of course we'll be buying it. We don't lug around our N7 Normandy CIC Kit everyday, even though we hated the ending to ME3. We loved the rest of it.

Even if it completely makes up for Mass Effect 3 I'll still be buying it used. I'm not supporting EA.

If its set after ME3 - then they have to take into account the ending the stories of all the aliens, eg neophage being cured etc. If they set it inbetween the trilogy then they would have to take into account the reapers etc But if its set before the trilogy then that would be better. Whatever they decide, im sure it will be awesome - there are a lot of history they could base it on.

Should be interesting if it's meant to take place after the Shepard saga, if only for the fact that one of the 4 endings is going to be canonized. Now if it's meant to be a prequel or a side story, then there's a lot of fun stuff they can dive into.

I'm not buying the game at all because it's by EA. If by some miracle it sounds interesting I'll watch a Lets Play.

Or they will do like Dragon Age 2 did, and give you the option to pick the outcome of the first game if you don't have a save file. Since it feels like each ending pretty much wiped the slate clean, picking your favorite hue would be the only major differences.

Here's hoping for a sequel set after the Reaper war, preferably with live Reapers present, that would make conversations interesting.

As for buying it, we'll see. I bought number three on release day, not making that mistake again.

Bring back exploration and a tank (or hover tank) and we'll talk.
