I'm just saying I'll believe it when I see it, hell, the folks at Engadget are calling it the "HD Wii" so my prediction isn't exactly universally refuted.Xzi said:When the "front runners" are purposefully trying to extend a console generation well beyond the point where its technology is obsolete, it's pretty easy to jump on the opportunity. There's really no point in making a new console if they're going to limit it to ten year old hardware. Anyone can build a computer for $500 that far outclasses the PS3/360 these days. Why you would think that a multi-national corporation can't do the same is beyond me.danpascooch said:Oh right, as for that part, I think it's just plain wrong. There are no hard facts about this console after all.Xzi said:An upgrade that's more powerful than the 360/PS3? Don't think your analogy really fits.danpascooch said:Who wants to bet this new console is to the Wii as the Xbox slim was to the Xbox
I doubt it's really the next big generation, probably just an upgrade.
That said, I don't really care anyway, Nintendo is going to have to do something BIG to get my trust back after the Wii, it's like I've been saying for years, they fucked over their stable fanbase for a quick cash in, and now it's starting to hurt them long run.
OT: Glad to hear it. Seeing Nintendo beat them out hardware-wise might convince Sony and Microsoft to get up off their fat asses and stop holding back the industry. By this point Nintendo could easily develop a console which has twice the power of the 360/PS3 and only cost $100 to $150 than they do currently.
Think about it, Gamecube vs. Xbox and PS3. N64 vs PS1
When has Nintendo ever had a console more powerful than the other front runners on the market?
Saying it's not going to be a gimmick doesn't mean shit, they didn't think motion control was a gimmick when they released it either.Sean Strife said:Did you just not read the article? Nintendo hasn't been good since the 64 and I don't see that changing unless the new console a) has at least the option of normal controls and is not based entirely on a gimmicky motion sensor, b) has graphics are at LEAST as good as PS3 (that's charitable considering they really should be much better as it's being released in 2011/2012), and c) carry AAA pan-platform releases like COD and Assassin's Creed. If none of that changes, Nintendo will continue to be a tired relic kept on a steady life support drip of a Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon release every year or so.
Nah, I'm thinking of this generation and their attempts to use motion controls after seeing people get hyped about it.OutrageousEmu said:You mean like how Sony ripped off the Game.Com for the DS? Wait...
They wait this long for a Wii plus because now is when they need it, right when sales start to slouch BAM! Hit them with an upgraded version (in this case, HD) so that the already Wii-saturated market has something new to buy, it actually makes perfect sense, almost everyone who wants a Wii has one now, if they release an upgrade a large portion of them will go buy that too.EBHughsThe1st said:I don't.danpascooch said:Who wants to bet this new console is to the Wii as the Xbox slim was to the Xbox

All consoles peak in sales and then slowly decline through the next 5 years. Heck, they're giving the hardcore audience what they want. They even brought back Kid Icarus. They have spent the last couple of years experimenting, even on the Gamecube. Mario Sunshine and Windwaker were both experiments, and the Wii was just a more drastic experiment. Try to appeal to a larger audience.
And why would they wait this long for the Wii Lite or Wii Plus? It only took them a year for the DS lite, and another two for the DSi Family. They don't upgrade their consoles like the other two companies. They just make a new one from the ground up.
Crappy? Everything since the PS2 looks goddamn amazing. I'm actually put off at the prospect of better graphics. Better AI, better online, sure, but better graphics? How much better can we get? There wasn't even a significant jump from last generation until 2007 or so.Dexter111 said:YES, now the others have to follow suit sooner or later and I won't have to endure 4 more years of games with crappy graphics and small levels xD
I said consoles. Not handhelds. They do fucking love to upgrade handhelds. Gameboy, gamboy color, gameboy advance, gameboy advance XP, Gameboy micro (I think that's the most useless), and I've already addressed the DS. But that's the handheld market.danpascooch said:They wait this long for a Wii plus because now is when they need it, right when sales start to slouch BAM! Did you really just say "The don't upgrade their consoles" right after talking about the "DS Lite" and "another two for the DSi Family" for fucks sake these are the people who made the DS XL the most useless console upgrade known to man, and don't forget Wii motion plus, Nintendo loves minor upgrades to their shit.
It better be called the Wii-Wii! Epic name.Braedan said:Silly, It will be called the Wii-Wii.
Which took the ideas from PDAs. Not to mention that the DS has two screens and plenty of games that actually use both screens.OutrageousEmu said:The first handheld to use a touchscreen interface.randommaster said:Nah, I'm thinking of this generation and their attempts to use motion controls after seeing people get hyped about it.OutrageousEmu said:You mean like how Sony ripped off the Game.Com for the DS? And what is the Game.com and what does it have to do with the DS? I've been trying to find out what you're talking about, but nothing even resembling the DS has come up.
They haven't had a normal controller since the SNES.chickenhound said:just please nitendo go back to normal conrollers!
Yeah, the same way my laptop is a nothing more than an upgraded abacus.EBHughsThe1st said:I said consoles. Not handhelds. They do fucking love to upgrade handhelds. As for their consoles, they release peripherals, not upgrades. Donkey Konga controller, ruble pak, Wii motion plus. Like the Move and Kinect.
Like that. An upgrade would be like the PS2 and PS3 slim or the XBox 360 slim. Actually, the other two upgrade each generation. Playstation 1,2,3 and Xbox, then 360. Just big, big, big updates.
Because quality games get less fun every time they're beefed up with new tech, amirite? [/sarcasm]No_Remainders said:Oh yay. Now we can have "Super Mario 12: Revenge of the Chocolate Coated Bullshit".
I'm not getting it unless Nintendo get some new fucking IPs.
