Super Wii Entertainment System. Looking forward to another 30 iterations of Mario.

Somewhat surprised they didn't build better graphics in to the Wii, could have saved themselves some trouble.

Besides more excersise games and dance revolution, motion control for commercial use seems to be sort of a diversion from what gamers are looking for, fully immersive titles with better storylines.

This is actually very exciting news, Nintendo rehit it's stride with the Wii, now with a commitment to core gaming and 3rd parties as well as market pioneering, we could see a return to the NES/SNES glory days.

Or lots of shovel ware. Either way, it'll make lots and lots of money.

Considering Nintendo is far and away the leader in market share with the Wii, having more sales then the 360 and PS3 combined at a fraction of the production price... they already had to step up their game. They've been playing catchup since forever.

Because as we all know, as soon as the N64 could outperform the Playstation, the Ps1 didn't sell a single other unit.

This thing is gonna be balls expensive and probably not offer any signifigant visual upgrades (even with 5 year old hardware, the Ps3 is still pushing visual boundaries across everything), so the idea that somehow this will mean Sony or Microsoft "have" to bring out new consoles is pretty murky at best. The Atari 5200 was more powerful than anything else, but that didn't help it.

Also I am interested but at the same time put off, if it is a super powerful system that means games will be expensive to make and devs will have less room for creativity as they could sell at a loss much easier...

It doesn't have to be a super powerful machine, HD graphics cards are damn cheap now, even duelcores and ram. A system with more power than a 360 would be able to be made for a competitive price, Nintendo knows lower price is what made them successful, and they wont ruin it now.

For their sakes it better support DVD AND Blu-Ray. No one wants another new gen console that cant even play DVD's off the bat. Personally Im already leaning towards PS3's, Nintendo's failing for me bigtime these past few years hardware wise.

If you have a ps3 or Xbox along with this it wouldn't need a dvd player and from a purely game only company I would hope they wouldn't a dvd player cost 20-30 bucks to just buy one apart and they have a tendency to break in consoles.........................Wait people still use dvd?

More powerful then the ps3 and xbox 360? Ladies and Gents I think the time may finally have come. THE $1000 CONSOLE IS UPON US! There is no way something that is MORE powerful then a PS3 that also can backwards compatibly play Wii games is going to be cheap. Hell it may even be more expensive then that! And It BETTER at least be able to play DVD's. I mean the PS2 and the Xbox could play DVDs yet when the Wii came around, nope, still no DVD player. FAIL

Hey it wouldn't be hard - tech's advanced plenty since the other two were first made. The only question is if there's ANY IP that Nintendo has that would take advantage of even more power. Can't think of many WII games that really taxed the system in the way that, say, Halo 2 did of the original Xbox, or many that would really look better with HD graphics :/

I don't know, I'm skeptical, although at least they're doing it right and giving publishers plenty of time to play around with the hardware, but more powerful than the PS3 and significantly so? I'll have to see it to believe it.

Why am I not surprised N is the first announcing a new gen console? I don't think it is so much the Wii has been discounted to pawn store value as with Kinect and Move out now, Wii has nothing unique to it besides being behind both of the others in graphic quality.
But hey, it works with Netflix!

Both. It will have multiple functions, most which will be blocked within a year, and will explode unless it is kept on a well-ventilated iceberg every minute.

It will even have motion controls. You have to move it/shake it/beat it to get any control out of it.

Do that for me and i might just get this when it starts functioning properly(i.e. about a year after release). Other than that i'm glad they finally hopped onto the HD train.Oh, and maybe we'll finally see a new F-Zero for the thing.

Nu-uh. No way. No way am I getting this. I was a hardcore nintendo fan. I owned a GAMECUBE for fuck sake. It was good! you know it had some good games! PS2? pffffft had nothing on the gamecube. Sure it didn't play DVDs but SO WHAT? The Gamecube had it's merits too.

Then Nintendo release a new console. Ahhhh motion control. It looked so awesome in the trailers.

Then they sailed the hardcore fans down the river, giving them mario every once in awhile.

NO, from that day on I promised MYSELF that I would never be duped again, never be given false hope. I will not be purchasing this machine.
