Yes, the newer ones have their hardware optimized, and in some cases the firmware has been expanded.Modus Operandi said:What do the newer models have that the older ones don't? I'm still using a 40GB version (3rd release I think it was) expanded to 120 GB and haven't found any logical reason whatsoever to upgrade... are the older models missing something compared to the new ones?oranger said:After all, I paid fair bit o' cash for one of the first models, and then blam, it was obsolete like sony had been sitting on slightly better tech all along...
And even if they hadn't had the tech at the time, it was wrong of them to expect me to buy the system twice.
The Linux was removed because people *cough* US Air Force *cough* were using clusters of ps3 as super computers but Sony actualy loses money per console so sony was losing shed loads of cash. Consoles don't make money, but the games for them do.junkmanuk said:I wish I could believe this. We've not seen any improvement or cost decrease in games during the period that the PS3 has been secure. It would be lovely if Sony rewarded those that are loyal to the brand but unfortunately that won't happen. The big business boys are more interested in squeezing as much they can out of the community so they can buy their next luxury yacht.Corpse XxX said:I hope Sony wins this..
Hackers make it worse for people who pay up fair and square..
Sony really offered themselves to the wolves by removing the 'Other OS' capability, there was never any justification for hacks or exploits prior to that as there was no legitimate reason to exploit the platform.
As a software developer, I liked the idea of the PS3 linux partition but found it was very awkward to use in conjunction with my kids wanting to use the PS3 for normal use. The USB device would give me a great temporary way of running unsigned *legal* code on the platform, and I'd like to be able to do that.
Yep. Perfectly. Didn't affect me worth a damn. And quite honestly, whatever they need to do or delete to keep security up on the PS3 is fine by me. Beats consoles turning into the same wild west as PC gaming, where each developer is free to fark around with whatever security measures they see fit to. All I want to do is play my damn games I paid for. The rest is filler.rembrandtqeinstein said:Do all you corporate ass-kissers realize that Sony stole the Other OS feature from legit, paying customers? Is that perfectly OK with you?
But... that would require caring about their players!thenumberthirteen said:You know I remember when a PS3 update used to add new features. When are they going to update the flash player, or implement cross game chat, or do something besides cover their asses?
Nintendo doesn't care about mods or homebrew except for paying lipservice to the whole thing to appease clueless stockholders/or 3rd party developers.AzrealMaximillion said:*Pokes Nintendo's shoulder*
Hey, Hey you see that?
*Points at Sony*
That's how you stop mods.
Fixed that for you.poiuppx said:Yep. Perfectly. Didn't affect me worth a damn. I don't see any difference. [mumbles] Steal my other OS from me, bastards [/mumbles]rembrandtqeinstein said:Fixed that for you.poiuppx said:Yep. Perfectly. Didn't affect me worth a damn. If I were Nintendo, I'd care about people being able to store the DS' ENTIRE library on a mini SD card.rembrandtqeinstein said:Nintendo doesn't care about mods or homebrew except for paying lipservice to the whole thing to appease clueless stockholders/or 3rd party developers.AzrealMaximillion said:*Pokes Nintendo's shoulder*

You know why? Because Ninty is too smart to sell hardware at a loss and hope to make up the difference in volume. If you buy a Wii and hack it immediately Nintendo still makes money, cool huh?
Except for all the mandatory updates?Belladonnah said:There was no DRM crap on PS3 that would interfere in any way with the legit user, so everything else in your logic is useless.Denamic said:Rooting for the hackers.
Closed systems are bad.
'Legit' users are annoyed because the DRM crap is up their asses being annoying.
While the hackers hack precisely because the DRM is annoying.
Well, some of them. I'm sure many just want free games.
Publishers need to get a clue and understand that you don't beat piracy by punishing legit users.
Yeah, and pirating the console stops that? Jailbreak has no effect on your one "DRM crap" you mentioned, and I still disagree with it being a bad thing.aaron552 said:Except for all the mandatory updates?Belladonnah said:There was no DRM crap on PS3 that would interfere in any way with the legit user, so everything else in your logic is useless.Denamic said:Rooting for the hackers.

The difference is SEGA didn't have rock solid first party games like Nintendo. Even if every 3rd party developer went away Nintendo hardware would still sell because people would buy it for the latest iteration of Mario, Zelda, Metroid. Nintendo doesn't need 3rd party devs, 3rd party devs need Nintendo for its marketshare and low development costs.AzrealMaximillion said:If I were Nintendo, I'd care about people being able to store the DS' ENTIRE library on a mini SD card.rembrandtqeinstein said:Nintendo doesn't care about mods or homebrew except for paying lipservice to the whole thing to appease clueless stockholders/or 3rd party developers.AzrealMaximillion said:*Pokes Nintendo's shoulder*

The last time a company didn't care about its 3rd party it, for lack of better words, fucked them right up. I believe that companies name was SEGA
