What would really be a good idea is to bring back series that hadn't received that treatment so far...like Blake's 7.

Just a thought.
I like the way you think.
Logic says we're dead.
Logic has never defined what dead is.
I'm not stupid, I'm not expendable, and I'm not going.

Well, that could be really fun actually. I just hope it doesn't turn into the Star Trek version of Stargate Universe. That last thing I want to see is an awesome starship full of melodramatic misfits trying to get into each others pants. (Kinda like most of the Star Trek books I've read come to think of it...)

Meh. I can go for that. So long as they don't try to make it "cool" Star Trek has never been "cool" and people should stop trying to make it "cool." It's for geeks, they are not "cool", deal with it.

I can't believe I forgot Voyager. That is seriously damaging to my nerd cred.
I was initially going to respond with this video rather than the "slap" one, but I couldn't find it at the time.

For shaaaaaaame.

And in case anyone isn't aware of why Blake's 7 was so awesome:

It was the characters, and their conflicts that made it great. Having Avon's darkness only slightly tempered by Blake's optimistic leadership was the perfect backdrop for the series.

Im skeptical about a new ST series, many of them sucked IMHO

STTOS: THE GOLD STANDARD
STTNG: EPIC WIN
DS9: Not too bad
Voyager: No thanks
Enterprise: ho hum

I was disappointed that the Enerprise series didn't get off the ground. I really liked it compared to the other series.

Anything with Roddenberry's original concept as the starting point sounds like a good idea. I really didn't like Abrams' film at all.
Agreed. Well Abram's film was very entertaining, but I hated what he did to the franchise.

Anyway, I'm skeptical. I mean I love Star Trek, but I think that perhaps we may have finally gone past the limit of what Star Trek can give us. Personally I think we went past that point after Voyager ended, but that's just me. Actually, arguably that point was reached when Rodemberry died, but that's neither here nor there; the point is we've past it. However I'll reserve judgment till more details are released before I come to any definite conclusions.

EDIT: Whatever they do, they must not let Rick Berman get his hands on it.

Ok I'm loving the idea of more trek - It's pretty much a full on nerdgasm BUT

"highly-energized with a much younger cast"

...I immediately think

...and I think I'll be right :'(

I was never so big on Star Trek that I could be called a Trekkie but I still love the series as I grew up with my dad watching Next Generation. While I never got into DS9, I enjoyed Voyager as much as I enjoyed Next Generation. I had no interest in Enterprise because they changed some cannon details, and you can lose me VERY fast when you do that, no matter what series you belong to.

I'd definitely watch a new series like this as it sounds like the guy is a good fan and planning on lots of interesting things. I have to admit part of what attracted me to Lost was that it was somewhat "planned out," and since it sounds like this is too, I'm pretty excited. I hope it comes out, and is soon available online or on Netflix since I don't have TV!

Well there is this mess: http://www.starshipfarragut.com/Episodes.php

I'll give them a B for effort but the execution just isn't there.
Or this: http://www.hiddenfrontier.com/episodes/index.php

OT: Well, I'll hope for the best about this series, but expect the worst. Just the way it is nowadays.

It would be nice to see some of the cast of Voyager appear in this one. I loved that series. Some of the episodes were on par with the best that TOS and TNG had to offer. I mean, Voyager's "Blink of an Eye" and TNG's "The Inner Light" and TOS's "A Taste of Armageddon" have to be the best Star Trek episodes ever made (personal opinion, don't rush). And while TOS had 3 great characters and TNG had one (Picard forever!), Voyager had the best all-round cast of all and with one hell of a captain. Plus, no f-king Ferengi (except in one or two episodes). If they hadn't wasted time in the last season, to rush it up in 2 episodes in the end, it would've been the best series overall.

While I'm looking forward to see the Federation again, I'll always miss the "one ship, tight crew" that Voyager and Enterprise offered. And I hope they don't turn it into a JJ Abrams series. I like battles from time to time, but the strength of Star Trek lies in its exploration of theoretical physics. I think that humanity owes a great deal to the Star Trek universe as it has provided a blueprint of a positive future. We should always have a Star Trek series on TV, just as we always have someone out there in space.

Gimme. I want two things from this show: good writing and some classic Star Trek camp. If they can avoid getting bogged down by DS9's soap opera in space thing, I think we'll have a winner on our hands.

So what say you, Trekkers? Does this sound like a good idea, or does the thought of a new Trek series make you want to go looking for your Firefly [http://www.amazon.com/Firefly-Complete-Blu-ray-Nathan-Fillion/dp/B001EN71CW/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1314284256&sr=1-2] DVD set?
Little bit of column A, little bit of column B.

I'll give it a try, but if it's as disappointing as "Enterprise" "Nemesis" OR the new "Star Trek"... I'll break out the TNG DVDs and lick my wounds...

Then follow it up with firefly for good measure.

This better be green-lighted by CBS because I am sick of all the "on-earth sci-fis" as of lately.

Come on people I need some outer space sci-fi over here come on we need it BADLY.

I wish they'd do a series the complete opposite. Like, if the galaxy was conquered by a revitalized Dominion or the Borg or another unnamed enemy, and a resistance movement has to recapture the freedom they had under the Federation

DO WANT!
I like Star Trek. I've waiting for a new series for quite some time. Re-watching Deep Space 9 every now and then because it's the best Star Trek in my opinion. So fuck haters.
