New Star Wars Show Isn't As Far Along As You'd Hope

I can't be the only die hard Star Wars fan dreading this, can I? The Clone Wars cartoon I can accept--even if it screws the lore up from here to The Maw--because it doesn't have live people in it, so it's not terrible acting. This...this just sounds like a bad idea. Unless the correct people handle it. Who those people are, I have no idea.

So he's got 50 hours worth of scripts, but isn't shooting because he's figuring out different technology to make the show? As if the technology to make good film hasn't been around for years. Sounds like he's getting caught up in special effects as opposed to telling a good story, and as we all know:

Wait.. What?!

Seems to me that George keeps at it because he wants to prove himself to the fans. He knows Empire was the best starwars movie to come out and he just wants to show he can be involved in a piece of starwars that doesn't suck.

But then he forgets the most important thing he's forgotten over all these years. So sad...

I hope it becomes the television version of Spiderman the Musical.

With all due respect, George Lucas (that is to say, none at all), go and fuck yourself. Your franchises do not deserve this loathsome disrespect as a license to milk out more money from the corpses of your cash cows. Leave everything that you have ever had a hand in alone and allow people who actually respect Star Wars to decide the future of Star Wars.
...You kidding right?

You telling me a guy who actually created the universe...can't work on his own damn work?

That's the single most stupid thing I heard on this site.

Didn't they want to have a Boba Fett series back when Attack of the Clones came out? Like his rise to glory or whatever?

My problem is thus: betrayel implies entitlement. You (in the general sense) feel like you deserve something and feel betrayed when you don't get it. But you don't deserve anything. George Lucas doesn't owe anyone anything, least of all people who think whatever he created after the original movies is awful.

But worst of all is that whatever made you a fan, you assume to be the reason for anyone else to be a fan too. This is not true. An important part is that you as a person have also changed since that first viewing that made you a fan. If you were to see them now for the first time, your reaction would undoubtly be different.

All in all, people should just stop wallowing in self-pity and self-righteousness covered by a thick layer of nostalgia. And they should stop giving George Lucas crap for doing what he wants with his franchise. Enjoy the parts you like and leave the rest alone.
Thank you! There are far too many Star Wars fans out there who feel obligated to continue to enrich this franchise whilst complaining endlessly over it's failures.

I hope this abomination never sees the light of day, and I really hoped that I'd already heard the last of it, but I'm not going to pitch a fit if it airs after all.

I'll just step in here and say I'm looking forward to see what it becomes.
What if it actually turns out to be the best thing invented since sliced bread?

50 hours of scripts? Don't be silly Lucas doesn't write scripts.

Obviously, I hope this tv show never happens.

How did they miss that? Lucas specifically said they needed to make it feasible to 'shoot the show.' I'm not quite sure how he could have made it any clearer that it hadn't been shot.

As for the show itself, will probably watcha bit to see what it's like when it comes out, but otherwise uninterested. It's a shame, but after reading the Legacy of the Force books my love of Star Wars, which I've had since I was about seven, was finally extinguished.

Not even the prequels and the Clone Wars cartoon made me hate the universe quite as much as Legacy. I don't blame George for it because the books aren't his domain, but any creative team which would think the character arc presented in those books was at all correct is clearly a creative team that has forgotten what exactly 'good character development' means.

Star Wars show? Didn't George Lucas suffer a tragic heart attack during the production of the supposed "Episode 1" of Star Wars? Last I checked, there hasn't been any new Star Wars material since 1983.

The title here is misleading, what I would "hope" is that this series never sees the late of day, so this news is rather good.

I assume you haven't watched the prequel trilogy?

I really dont understand people sometimes tbh...

I consider myself a pretty big star wars fan, and I personally am incredibly excited to see this show and hope that it eventually gets made. If you're a Star Wars fan, then there is some enjoyment to be had from the show being that its 'Star Wars'. And if it ends up being terrible (as most people are assuming is likely)... so what? Does it make the movies any worse? Does it suddenly remove the original trilogy from existance or something?

If you dont enjoy it thats fine, you dont have to, even if you are a fan of the IP. But that doesnt mean that others wont enjoy it. There would undoubtedly be millions of people who would love to see it, yet you all cry and scream and hope that this show never gets made so that you dont have to see it? How about simply not watching it?

And furthmore what if by some incredibly slim chance it actually ends up being amazing - Isnt that worth the risk? (inb4 "no").
There are 2 outcomes:
1. its awful and you dont watch it - nothing gained, nothing lost.
2. its amazing and you watch it and love it - huge gains, nothing lost.

Whether you like it or not, this show WILL get made eventually. You dont write 50 hours (2-4 standard tv seasons depending on length) of material if you dont plan on doing something about it. Better off coming to terms with it rather than complaining about it which wont do anything. When it finally does come out THEN watch it and decide for yourself - or dont watch it, the choice is yours. I personally will watch and hopefully love every second of it.

Most people don't seem to have it in them to be this objective. Kinda sad really.

Why don't people like this? What would you rather, the animated crap or Live Action?

Personally i think this will be a huge success, you can;t say "it will fail" without been given any information about what will happen in the series.

Considering the fact that there is a slight chance that this show might get made, I would say that this show is much farther along than I would like.

So it is true. Didn't think he could sink any lower after "Attack of the Clones", but I guess nobody hates Star Wars as much as George Lucas.

Actually, it's short for "fanatic".

I don't think anyone doubts it'll be a huge financial success. It's just hard to get over the horribleness that was the prequel trilogy. Put the "Star Wars" label on anything and it'll sell, but we haven't had a quality show of it since "Return", and nothing but crap ever since. Except the Ewok movies. Those were pretty fun when I was a kid.
