Well maybe if I was 14 again I'd consider this 'pretty awesome'.
But I'm not, and it's not.

Looks like gamers will mature far before the industry will ever think to.
Good to see advertising hasn't changed in a few decades, though. We're at least ahead of them.

'What's the product?'
'Denture cream'
'Have it being rubbed on boobs'
'Brilliant!'

And now I'm a marketing exec.
You're hired!

sigh, I concur with the OP. I want so badly to beleive that videogames are growing up, that one day saying you play games wont carry the stigma that you are a man-child, that one day women gamers wont have to be okay with fertilization in order to pick up a controller.

But, then there's this.

I'm boycotting this game (I know, the devs are trembling in fear at this statement from a guy who doesn't own any console but a wii).

The sad thing is, ten years ago, Tekken was awesome, and had the most awesome commercial ever.

I mean, seriously, look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GZRSNhVLos&fmt=18&annotation_id=annotation_458186&feature=iv

That's how you advertise. It's hilarious, it shows off the game, and there's no pointless sex, and it appeals both to gamers, and other people, for the humour.

Because it's not like any other medium utilises sex to sell their products...

the wealth of content our industry provides in games ranging from The Path to Peggle to Mass Effect and all of that ends up meaning dick because the people responsible for making and marketing Tekken can't get over their giggling obsession with tits.
That's like saying films like the Shawshank Redemption are ruined by the presence of Big Momma's House 2.

Dead or Alive 3 had the best ad for a fighting game (the UK ad). It was a bloke dressed as Christie trying to do her moves until he pulls a muscle and limps off screen.

Oh for the love of God (and any others)...
This advert doesn't even make sense! It's not even advertising anything relevant to the Tekken Franchise unless there's something I missed in not buying Dark Resurection (was it Dark Res-erection?).
Seriously, this add has really pissed me off and now I feel less inclined to buy a game I've been waiting for for 3 years...

Bleeeh...

See that is advertising, funny, and appealing. This however is not, I don't understand why this would make me buy the game, I mean women fighting over shoes, and a hair straighter, some feminists could mark that as sexist, and then there is the last one where the two girls are fighting over an Ipod[?] Now that was ridiculous and pointless to the largest extent of the word.

It's obviously a humorous ad, where do you people leave your sense of-?

Besides that, I hate statements like the OP uses "maybe they're right in their stupid gegeneralization of everyone who is united by the simple act of buying a product and using it, I mean, gaming".

Blanket statements are not funny, thank you so very much.

Sex sells, sex ALWAYS sells
BMX XXX anyone?

Sex doesn't always sell :p
It ALWAYS sells to someone. It's better then not having it at all from a selling point of view.
Im sure you could make that argument about everything. Im sure anything will sell to someone. I could make a game about filling a cup with water, and thats it, nothing else. I could then market it and sell it for £40 and I am sure at least one person would buy it. There you go, apparently that idea sells too! It doesn't sell well, but it sells, which is what your argument entails.

Sex generally sells in context, like for example in my water filling game if i had some sexy bikini clad woman filling the cup then i might snag another couple of sales, but a game marketed to the general video game audience generally has to have something more substantial than just SEX. BMX XXX had nothing going for it, it was completely insubstantial and downright stupid, and thats why it sold south of 100,000 copies. From what i have seen from this advert i wouldn't buy the game as it looks to be in a similar situation; i am sure because it is a tekken game it will sell reasonably well, but like most people unless there is more to the game from what is shown here then I wont touch it would a 10 yard pole.

Not in the least. Film is a far more mature medium than videogames and the public is much more at ease with it. Shawshank isn't portrayed as something the kids are going to run out to see on the weekend. Setting aside the inherent stupidity of the ad itself (I suppose you could argue it's funny, if your brow is sufficiently low enough), the fact is that it perpetuates a stereotype that we could really do without.

Is it bad I'm amused people are complaining about this, yet an article on a Japanese porn game coming with breasts is the most poular article?

Anyway, I suppose you could look at it from a comedy viewpoint. Two women beating each other to death to use a hair straightener is pretty funny, the just didn't need to put 'em in bikinis.

Isn't that the same fault with all modern advertising, especially to males? I find most products advertised to an audience which is made up by a majority of males, makes that audience looks like a group of immature mouth breathing idiots. Look at beer commercials. The amount of horrible bikini clad ones compared to the good ones (Stella for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ArtWY02V_V8&feature=player_embedded) generally makes a strong argument that most people who consume beer are immature idiots. It's troubling because this type of marketing works. No matter how much we decry these type of advertising, it ends up selling products. I'm going to end here before I get off on a rant about advertising and the gender tropes that appear in them.
