I'm curious as to how they knew he was imitating a wrestling game when NO ONE SAW HIM JUMPING. It seems to me like just a case of home made parachute experiment gone wrong. Poor kid though, this story has made me a sad Steve. :(

i says blame the parents. Oh, wait, the child plays video games? surely i can't be the parents fault surely, its all the video games fault, even if the parents: a) should never have gotten the game for him and: b) taught their daughter how to watch over him. AND WHERE THE FUCK IN ANY WRESTLING ARE THERE PARACHUTES? This is akin to Jack Thompson blaming Halo for when that asian (not being racist, i just cant remember if the dude was chinese or korean) dude who was always bullied at his college and then flipped out and killed a whole bunch of people. Of, course it was Halo's fault, a game he never played, and was to poor to afford, of course, it was the waves generated from the video games out there that...corrupted his mind...as of course they are doing to us right now...and the bastards who bullied him to the point of insanity, no they were probably part of the alumni and therefore completely blameless, as of course, if you have money it makes you a better person and couldn't possibly be a bad person who demeans those who are less fortunate than them.

could it?

Fucks sake...Anyone ever thought maybe he wasnt happy? I mean, Look at the detail - his parents werent home, that vagueley suggests possibility of more time spent out, neglection, his sister wasnt watching him, although possibly coincidental, also suggests neglection - I know this is only something a total nerd would notice, but still, as well as living in an apartment (Suggestion of Lower Middle class/Middle class) he has a Ps2, And his favourite game was SM v. Raw, Which, if im thinking of the correct game, is a 2003/4 release, Sparking a popular series, but yes, a ps2 suggest simply Middle class, not lower, even if it isnt top notch, its still hardly something a hobo would have. and kids are selfish. when i was eleven I tried killing myself becuase my parents temporarily banned me from my favourite MMO I was addicted to years ago. This is just a suggestion - anyway im pretty sure most 9 year olds know dropping 13 stories = Death

Video games are an effect, not a cause. This is the parents fault for allowing there son do this. A 9 year old playing a T rated video game? I must say I played Starcraft at age 6, but I never thought that I could/should do all the shit you do in that game. It's probably better to buy your 9 year old Halo than a wrestling game. Not only is Halo better, the kid would know he couldn't do the stuff in that he does in the game.

And now the parents are gonna sue the game company and the WWE because of imitating it.

Look, these guys say "Don't try this at home" for this exact reason. Hell, my brother and I tried doing wrestling moves on our trampoline when we were nine to 11, but wether we grew out of it or hurt ourselves too many times (mostly because I kept getting him in Texas Cloverleaf holds and he got me in Rear Naked Chokes), if we got hurt, it was our own damn fault. These kids do it and instinct number one is sic the lawyer on the WWE instead of blaming themselves for letting the kid watch the show/play the game in the first place.

Look, there's a reason these games are rated Teen. By age 13, one is usually able to tell the difference between fantasy and fact (or in this case, safety and being a goddamn village idiot) and are mature enough to play a game with such content. The blame in this case fits squarely on the parents for allowing the child to play the game.

Heck with WWE, what about the plastic bag company? They should be putting on their bags "Warning: Not to be used as a parachute!"

Ok...I think I have to agree with everyone here who has sensibly pointed out that parachutes and wrestling are not, generally, involved with each other. I've seen kids pretend to be wresters; they leap onto each other from the backs of couches or whatever, and usually no-one gets hurt because the person on the ground squeals and rolls away from the jumper, and the jumper has learned from previous experience that the landing can be a little hard, and therefore doesn't totally fling themselves down. Jumping of a roof with a plastic bag for a parachute sounds like a kid experimenting with parachutes, no more, no less. It's a terrible thing for his family, but I can't really see how it's the fault of a game - the kid got reality confused with fantasy and paid a terrible price for it.

OK, maybe kids get the wrong idea from some games and think that people magically respawn when you kill them, but if a kid has access to violent games and firearms, then there are bigger problems in that household than a computer game. It's simple parenting - I remember when I was little, my mum would watch cartoons an play games with me and my sister, and (very subtly, actually, she did it really well) reinforce the realities of what was happening so that we gained an appreciation of the differences between Wily E Coyote's ability to recover from each anvil to the head and the chances of a human actually surviving such a thing. Bottom line: people need to pay more attention to their childrens' development before they blame accidents like this on the games industry.

Call me misanthropic but it seems that videogames don't make children violent, they make children stupid.
Your half-right. Apparently video games make stupid children violently dead.
Seriously, I played Mario 64 when I was nine, and you didn't see me thinking I could fly around because my hat had wings on it (Halloween costume).

You've obviously never seen a firecracker go down someone's shorts:) But I do agree that those kinds of games are less likely to be imitated.

I don't really understand what your trying to say. You might have an easier time making your point if you tried using periods and spelled words correctly. And if you'd looked at the first post I made, you would know that I think this kid made a stupid mistake for no real reason (except maybe poor parenting).
