I do feel bad that a kid died, and my condolences to his parents and friends.
But...Agreed^.

"It's terrible," added Shakar's mother Sumore. "The kids try to imitate what they see and they think they can fly."
I don't remember flying in WWE Smackdown vs. Raw.
Must of missed it, I guess I was to busy being turned into a killer by my violent video games to notice.

It isn't the kid who was at fault for this. Kids are naturally stupid.
It's the dumbasses who found a VERY vague connection to video games I blame.

I pray for the day when video games are no longer the scapegoat for everything. I want it to go back to something else, like rock and roll.

"Listening to the Beatles made my son think he could fly!"

I consider this a victory in my quest to cleanse the gene pool of idiotcracy without getting arrested again. If someone is dumb enough to attempt that stuff, without being trained, because i do support wrestling, there is nothing wrong with watching 2,3,4 + sweaty guys beating each other til one gets bored enough to give or the ring is covered in blood and sac juice, then they should die. Even a little kid

EDIt: I just fucking read the article, and this kid is a retard, how did he learn how to play on a Playstation with this small brain,Jeff Hardy or any wrestler for that matter, can fly. The only thing keeping my from wanting to punch his mother in her womb area is the fact he thought of a parachute...

13 storeys? pfft, he's perfectly fine! he's got a string and plastic bag for a parachute! what could go wrong? Plus he's swan-diving, he'll be perfect for aerodynamic re-entry at terminal velocity into solid pavement; this kid's plan is flawless, he has it all very well figured out - that plastic bag will deploy just at the 3rd storey to greatly decrease his velocity and have him float like a feather to the ground.

I'm sorry but this definitely will make it as a top nomination for the Darwin Awards. Depth perception develops at a pretty early age; this kid was 9; it's not the videogame, it's the kid - lets say he loved wrestling that much and videogames never existed - he'll just copy... nay, emulate what he sees on television to probably the same effect.

That, and some people just can't seem to get the parenting thing right at all.

Ok, I feel bad for the kid and family and all, but really...
That was, in No way, the video games fault. Ya, I sure loved the part in Wrestlemania when the guy jumped off the roof with a makeshift parachute strapped to his back.
And where the hell was the sister? Does this mean I should stop letting my little brother go on the roof with a rucksack and some string? Oh wait, I don't let him go on the roof cause I'm not artardeded.

Shit... Video games are going to be taking a lot of shit for this one. Goddamit...
Considering the number of faults on the child's and the parents behalf - anything against videogames would hardly even hold up in any court of law.

The videogame was none other than some media that the child viewed and perhaps drew an extension to his behavior from. Once again, I reiterate - it would be no worse than if he saw wrestling on tv, heard it on the radio or saw it live - the behavior is dependent on the child and how the child was raised and cared for - it's more disconcerting for me that the child at age 9 was not able to tell fact from fiction or 13 feet from 13 storeys or the difference between a parachute and a plastic bag and some string - basically, common sense and the ability to perceive danger and injury was something his parents should have taught him probably 4-5 years into his life.

Over-sheltering children can do this to them too - so, wisdom on behalf of parents is another thing that is needed to avoid raising children to become so stupid.

I think people should stop blaming games for everything.

"My son brought a gun to school and kept moving from cover to cover like they do in Gears of War! He must of been encouraged by that!"

And honestly, what do people hope to accomplish by bringing an end to video games? A revolution? I'm sure plenty of gamers are willing to ATLEAST break the law to play their games.

I have to agree i always find it annoying when people imitate a game it a game for a REASON

on a note of my own... since when did the ring be 13 stories high maybe if he jumped inside... (you know if he had his friend strapped to hjis chest then maybe i would see it as imitating a game >.>)

most already do, emulators, modding and what not but ffs maybe games should have a disclaimer in the manual saying do not attempt so people cant hold them responsible

correct me if im wrong, seeing as i do not own any wrestling games... but im pretty sure that people do NOT jump off buildings with parachutes and land on their opponents...

this is going to sound terribly cold... but im willing to bet that the 'best friend' suggested it and then when he realised what he had done blamed it on the game, seeing that blaming something on a game will definitely take the fall even if it is not to blame, simply because everyone is just looking for an excuse to ban video games..

the best friend stated :

"He tried to do a swan dive like Jeff Harding (sic) does in SmackDown. That was his favorite game. He played it all the time," Murrel said. "That was what he was trying to do. If I would have seen him up there, I would have told him not to do it."

how the hell does a swan dive have anything to do with a parachute! and how does he know that was the move he was trying to do if he did not see him jump off! he seems to know a god damn lot about exactly what was going through the jumper's head for someone who wasn't there!

You are on to something here, myself, i sort the whole deal in the darwinaward column.
A nine year old this stupid would have killed himself in one way or another in the next ten years, either doing a jackass type of stunt at 12, mixing 12 different kind of alcohol at the age of 15 and die of alcohol poisoning, or starting a fight with a bikergang in a bar at the age of 18 (with a fake ID, naturally.)
well, if you read the NY article it states that the jumper was attending special learning classes at school, so obviously he had some form of mental disability... so yeah one way of another this kid wouldnt have seen 37

I think it's because he did have the sense to think on how to prevent any damage by making a parachute

which explains why he there was a parachute

but your right about the friend part

How the hell did he know what he was thinking if he wasn't there ?
exactly!!! the friend sayes that "THAT WAS WHAT HE WAS TRYING TO DO" he didnt say may, or probably... he stated it.. as if it is a fact.. as if there was not a single doubt in his mind that his friend had died trying to imitate the swan dive..
