Can't. I want a game starring, and playing as Samus, not the lil'robot guy from the game fly commercials.
Would be nice to have the legend back, and being legendary again.

I have a feeling this is just a glorified test run for a shooter engine trying to cash in on Metroid.

Well, I won't write it off entirely (it can't be worse than Other M's effect on the franchise after all, that game literally broke the timeline in order to accommodate it) but the choice to have a Metroid game without Samus Aran in it must be considered risky under any circumstances. I will remain very skeptical on this one.

I dunno. I mean, I know people want them to fix Other M, but it's like, hey, maybe if they took a step back and regrouped with another project, they could work it out instead of just making Other M 2: It's Even Worse like they did with all of the recent Star Fox games.

That's ok Nintendo, I trust you and I still believe in you.

Now hurry up and release a Zelda game for the WiiU and a new Animal Crossing for the 3DS.

So I haven't played any Metroid games since I actually had a Nintendo back in the 80's but, just how many "bad" Metroid games have they made? I see posts in this thread like "you have to earn trust Nintendo!! And you've BETRAYED me with Metroid Prime! So you get NO trust from me!!"

But, I really don't recall anybody bitching about other Metroid games except that Metroid Prime one. And given how many Metroid games they've made, that seems to be a pretty good track record. 1 bad game in an entire franchise? Were there more games beside Prime that pissed people off? Or was the hatred of that one game so vile, that it's spilled out over onto all the other Metroid games they did that people like?
I think it's a case of ditching the Prime trilogy for Other M, a game most Metroid fans absolutely despised, then just neglecting the franchise entirely for five years and counting. It's almost like it took one game to kill the franchise and relegate it to handhelds only.

Not gonna lie, take the word Prime out (yes, the rhetoric matters to me) and I'm a little more interested.
A chance to play as a Federation Trooper actually doesn't sound like half-bad an idea to me, if they put it on the Wii or something rather than a handheld I don't own. My main problem is that it looks more than a co-op arcade shooter, I really rather would have had Metroid's atmosphere and story-telling from the point of view of a Trooper, I think that would've been cool.
I don't know, I guess I just wanted this to be for Metroid what ODST was for Halo.
Yeah, I don't care what anybody says, I loved ODST.
