You can turn off the 3D functionality entirely, and as far as I know, it remains backwards compatible with the regular DS.

But otherwise, Nintendo considers it the next iteration of its handheld hardware. Or rather, it is to the DS, what the DS was to the GBA (and the GBA was to the Game Boy/Game Boy Color).
What the DS was to Advanced was not the next Gameboy supposedly. Fat load that was. I should look through my old mags to find the actual article.

I'd really prefer they remake Majora's Mask, but maybe they could do that next.

So regardless, I hope this is going to eventuate.

It does make you wonder why they didn't advertise it...

But still, fingers crossed.

Even though I'm a colossal Zelda fanboy. I'm unable to see the point of this. I've already beaten the N64 original about ten or maybe even more times, and if younger people want to experience it they can dowload it on the Virtual Console. There was even a Gamecube version of the game bundled with Ocarina of Time: Master Quest (same game with harder, and sometimes a bit strange, dungeons).

Of course, if you don't own an N64, GameCube or Wii but are planning to get the 3DS this would be an obvious purchase. I'm also happy about the MGS3: Snake Eater remake because I don't have a PS2 (or PS3 that's still backwards-compatible) and have only played through it once on a friend's console.

However, I still don't see the point of playing remakes of games you already own, the same goes up for Final Fantasy VII.

I still own the ooc+master quest disc for my wii, but I still think I'm going to get this one.

This is great news. I'll hold off buying a system until there is a flashcard for it though. I've been completely spoiled by converting my cartridges to memory cards on my portable systems. I have vowed to leave my originals at home, unopened and safe, while I can do what I want with the game to have as much fun as I can. Pokemon with one save file? Fuck that, I'm having 3.

I would like to take a moment of your time to make a statement:

HEY GUYS, LOOK OVER HERE! I DID NOT PLAY THE ORIGINAL GAME SO I DONT LOSE MONEY ON BUYING A GAME WHO WORKS ABOUT THE SAME AS ANY OTHER ZELDA GAME!

Allright so is that over with? Good! Seriously, why do you even bother? Nintendo has no originality. Ocarina of Time whas a remake of the first Ledgend of Zelda game and this is just gonna be remake of Ocarina of time. So basically its just gonna be another Zelda remake. I stoped caring long ago. You will just lose money on nothing new. Mass Effect 3 on the other hand...

Does it really matter?
I think people should learn to calm down. Remember the Zelda footage when the Gamecube was revealed?

While a Zelda game on the 3DS is a given, it would surprise me if this was nothing more than a tech demo.

That's like saying Space Invaders was kind of like Star Fox 64

Gah! Nintendo, I love you, but I am oh so very poor, right now! Don't do this to me!!! At least tell me it's not coming out this Christmas - 2011 I can do, but this year's going to be tight. From now on, though, you have my full attention! Natal? Move? What are those things?

if that screenshot is real, then WTF, the graphics of the 3ds is amazing. and it is playable in 3D. personnaly i would turn the 3d of, but still its amazing. i'm a little shocked that they are making a remake. they always said that wouldn't make a remake of the game, but now they are doing it. still respect for nintendo, they showed balls and they were big.

Ah, so that saying they would have to make an entirely new section for the 3DS at the game store. I was hoping I could play 3DS games on my DSlite is all. This would hurt considering that I finally bought a DS this spring.
Well, the DS is about 6 years old now and the DSi basically did work like that where you only had DSi enhanced games that worked on old DSes (I can only think of one or two really interesting titles that were DSi only).

The 3DS not only has more buttons and an analog nub, it's also rendering PSP/PS2 quality graphics in 3D. How you'd make a game on that system that works on the DS without essentially making a completely different game for the DS users lacking those features is beyond me.

What I'm more interested is whether the plain DS games get enhanced (bilinear filtering!) on that thing. But anyhow, if half of those 70 titles come out during launch, I'll consider this a day one buy. Nintendo hasn't ever disappointed me as far as handhelds go.

I don't have a problem with this, I often want to try Ocarina of Time again, but I don't have a working N64 anymore. Nintendo proved they can handle things like this when they made Super Mario 64 for the DS, and while I am against the 3DS, I wouldn't be against this remake.

Also, if Square doesn't want to make an FF7 remake that's alright, but they should just tell us straight why instead of making up lies like "It'll take 40 years" and the fact that they made a tech demo just to taunt gamers is just one of the biggest dick moves I've ever seen, I mean really, wtf!?

I wouldn't want to see my beloved DS titles turned into 3D by what would sure to be some imperfect "one algorithm fits all" 3DS conversion.

EDIT: I know saying "what is sure to be" is correct, but "what would sure to be" doesn't sound right to me, can anyone who knows what they're talking about let me know if "what would sure to be" is grammatically correct? It's kind of driving me nuts.
