Just an accident that happens, You cannot really blame the child for wanting to play the game and you cannot blame the dog for being stirred up by the barking. Seriously, who would really have thought that the barking would incite a dog attack? This is just one of those freak accidents that simply happens, it is not anyones fault.

Even if it was the game, it doesn't really count, does it? I mean, you can't really claim that video games specifically incite violence in animals. They're fucking animals.

This is like blaming a girl who gets sexually assaulted for wearing too short a skirt.
Some thing that I wouldn't put past the Daily Mail. I don't know whether it's because they are truly ignorant twats or that they post ludicrous stories such as this just to sell more papers. Either excuse is highly possible. I'm sure the papers target audience are the naive "Think of the children" demographic and/or the type of people who vote for the BNP.

Not sure why everyone is assuming that because the dog was a large breed it was necessarily violent by nature. Bullmastiffs are, as a breed, generally very docile, obedient and loyal. They are prized as family pets for this reason.

This is a very unfortunate incident, but dogs are complex. Any number of things could have set it off. That said I personally don't think Nintendogs had anything to do with it. The Mail is an abhorrent publication.
Thank you for being the voice of reason here.

Soooo... they were keeping a dog bigger than some/most people in the room with a small child and they were suprised something went wrong? Did your other child shoot himself in the foot with the gun you left on the living room table after playing Modern Warfare 2, clearly making it the game's fault?

I love it how parents are never liable in cases like this, when it's clearly their fault. The dog was easily agitated and if the game didn't set him off, something else would have...

Fuck...
NOT.
THIS.
SHIT.
AGAIN.

I WISH people, especially the media, would stop blaming things on video gaming, when there are other, higher-ranking things related to this.
Dog = FUCKING MASSIVE. Problem 1
Dog = NOT TRAINED AROUND LITTLE KIDS. Problem 2
Parents = NOT WILLING TO TAKE BLAME. Problem 3 (the major one, because that proves the parents are afraid of responsibility)

Ta-DAH.
3 larger problems found.
Anyone wish to contribute to this list?
Kid=Playing Nintendogs :3
All jokes aside, yes the parents are being pricks, correct you are sir.

To reiterate what's already been said, I really doubt that Nintendogs was the cause of this unfortunate accident.

To add my own two cents to this:
If they said the girl 'may have kicked Saracen', then that usually translates to-
'Well, my friends daughter is a ***** and certainly kicked it a few times, but I don't want my friend mad at me/ to sue me'.

Okay, now this shit is getting ridiculous. First it was teen violence, now dogs? Try not to sound any more desperate to have a medium you don't understand get censored, you dumbfounded pricks.

Well, at least it's not a violent videogame. Nintendogs is rated E-10+ isn't it?
But, if people try to blame it on the game, I will be sorely pissed off! Why? Because this game was not a violent game. Violent games give videogames haters plenty of ammo but this was just a freak accident.

Besides having a dog of this size in your house with a nine year old girl alone, this dog will look at anything smaller than he is that smells like food as food. You might as well have a pet tiger.

It's a bull mastiff. Why was it inside with a nine year old child in the first place?
Basically this. While the attack could have been entirely coincidental, having a dog like that around a 9-year old is probably not the best idea.

I'm full-grown and I'm nervous around dogs that physically imposing.
Jebus Christ, I didn't know there were dogs that big.

Not the best dog to leave in a room with a child, but I don't understand why the dog would attack the child in the first place. I mean, sure the dog can hear fake barking sounds from the NDS but how can that make it want to maul a 9 year old girl?

And somehow I knew the first comment would be something about how bull mastiffs are violent. Despite this being an exceptionally ignorant misconception applied to various breeds... -snip-
And with a single sentence, you can make an incredible stretch. Note how the neither the implication of the breed being violent nor any *other* breed for that matter was in that post. You then proceeded to tl;dr yourself on an assumption.

It could've been how the bull mastiff is a very physically imposing breed of dog, and that even domestic animals have triggers. Children in the presence of large animals should always be supervised; you don't leave your child alone at the petting zoo, even if the animals are fenced off. In this case, the child was ill-supervised and the owners should be responsible.

I resent you and your opinion in this regard. Please go to hell.

Besides, a dog should be pretty stupid to mistake a videogame sound for the real thing, considering they're supposed to have good hearing. I remember when my dog was a just a puppy, she heard some barking from TV and started barking herself, but minutes later she had already learned one thing from the other.
This is just the media taking another cheap shot at videogames. NEXT!

Sounds like a kid's concocted story to get out of trouble for pissing off the dog. I've got kids, and stories like this crop up all the time, where the reaction is way out of proportion to what supposedly happened. Sorry I don't see a dog jumping a kid for a game making a barking noise. I do see a dog coming to check out what the noise is, the kid kicking at the dog for bothering her then the dog retaliating. That my friends seems much more likely.

Yeah. I hate dogs, they can all go die, and this story has just reaffirmed that hate.

It wasn't the games fault though, of course. It's just stupid barbaric dog nature. She could have been watching a tv show about dogs. The only reason it went for her is because it was on her lap where the bark came from.
Odd. That is how I feel about cats. If every cat died tomorrow I wouldn't be the slightest bit sad. Dogs on the other hand, dogs are awesome.

And I call massive bullshit on this article. Well mostly I call bullshit on the incident. If video game dogs barking incite violence, we would have a huge stretch of attacks on kids.

Something I find interesting though is, Wow, someone playing Nintendogs still. Amazing.

The dog was unstable.
If a dog gets so upset that it attacks a child when it hears barking, it's dangerous to begin with.
