2) Bethesda games are some of the buggiest in the industry. We need more demos, not less especially from companies who put out buggy games that their community has to write patches for.
Yeah, Skyrim is going to be full of bugs. With any luck the majority of them won't break the gameplay. :p
Caveat Emptor. No demo, no benchmark and no return policy.
More like "Caveat Venditor", (Seller Beware)

They'll have to accept that with no demo, benchmark or return policy, gamers will try it out by other means. Developers won't even believe the studies that games with demos sell more units.

Did anyone even actually expect this game to have a demo? People who know anything about this series realize that anything short of a two hour demo wouldn't even begin to show the depth of the game.
That isn't the only purpose of a demo, it isn't even the most important purpose because you can rent the full game on console to do that. No, the most important reason why the PC version should have a demo (or atleast a benchmark) is to let people know if their PC can run it well before they spend $60 on a non refundable item.

The game industry sure has quite the advantage, they can sell their products blind and the consumer has no recourse.

Developers are getting lazy with demos because the feedback they get from the gaming community is:

- "I would pay 60$ for the alpha build, and then another 60 when the game came out, if i could have it now."
- "Hoped for, but never really expected a demo. Still preordering it."

...and similar.

I can wait for November. I'm perfectly fine with waiting until then. We really don't NEED a demo.

Good things come to those who wait.

Disappointing. It is certainly possible to make a good rpg demo, I think they are just not willing to risk a hit to sales.

NO DEMO, NO SALE!

Oh, wait, I don't give a crap. I rarely install demos anyway. They can leave behind a trail of crap on my system and in my registry, install 'extras' I was unaware of, and that is not worth the trouble if the demo is bad.

So I read reviews and buy accordingly.

They did a demonstration->Walkthrough for Fallout 3, but not an actual public playable demo.

Naturally, they only showed the cool bits of that game; little did I know those were the best parts.

Oh wells. Let the Status Quo remain.

Yeah, not the kind of game where a demo is really possible. Nor would one give any real idea of the gameplay except maybe a partial taste of one or two styles of combat. I think most people who would buy Skyrim already know what they'll be getting into.
Best way to demo an RPG is buy the heavily discounted (preferably GOTY edition) previous RPG by the same company. Makes it difficult to judge a completely new entrant to the RPG genre though.

No demo on a game that will most likely melt your PC is a bad idea. They should at least release some kind of benchmark or something so that people know what they're getting themselves into and if their rig should be able to handle it(system requirement specs just don't quite cut it when it comes to judging the actual games).
I sincerely doubt Skyrim will come anywhere near melting mid range PCs.
I thought it was obvious I was exaggerating to explain my point. I suspect it is unlikely to literally melt mid range PCs, but a demo or benchmark would still be helpful so that people can figure out just what kind of jet engine their computer will sound(or maybe help them fully realize it is time to upgrade their system if they want to get the most out of the experience).

Demos are sometimes buggy and can't be trusted to accurately depict how a game will play. However, in Bethesda's case, a buggy demo would be an accurate representation of the final product.

A game that actually did an awesome demo which was hand in hand with the full game was Just Cause 2. As in the case with Skyrim, it's a fairly open sandbox game and was good way to benchmark your rig to the specs of the game.

RPGs aren't the best games to demo really, so it's not really surprising, or a problem.
Exactly. You can't really demo a game where you build your own character...

Yes you can. Most recently, Dragon Age II had a demo and I think the character creator was in the demo. Even if Bethesda doesn't want to put a character creator in the demo, they can still put out a demo with a pre-made character.

Now the excuses for Bethesda's laziness are just getting ridiculous.

What next "You can't really make a demo of a game with swords in it". LOL

I was thinking more along the lines of a full world thing. You can't really get into it if you're limited and don't have much room to explore. There's no room for actually getting to fun parts like quests, exploration, stat customizations. and etc.

good. i think that demos are a waste of game makers time and its unnecessary really. i never play them either. but i cant say i play that many games. i guess it can help sales for new franchises, but thats it.
