My only thing with dubstep is that it's called dubstep...wasn't it just called electronica a few years ago? You know, back before steam replaced cyber when it came to punks? Other than that I don't see why there's so much hate for it. It isn't inherently bad or anything but I understand how popular it is to vocally dislike popular things.

Its a long description so ill just cut to the chase. Keep Dubstep out of gaming. Idc if people enjoy it. Just enjoy it elsewhere.
Indeed.
I'd also like to add the following to the list:

Classical music (i.e. Beethoven, Baach etc.)
80's electro pop
Anything that has ever been on the billboard top 100
Punk, Post Punk, Punk Rock
Rock, Hard Rock
Rap, Gangsta Rap, R&B
Heavy Metal, Black Metal, Death Metal and Trash Metal
Pop music

I don't care if people enjoy it, I demand that it be kept out of my games.
They can always enjoy it somewhere else.

Also, I'd like to ban anime from all TV stations and most torrent sites.
I don't care if people enjoy it, they can always enjoy it somewhere else, no?
This is a great idea, I too want anything I dislike kept out of my games. People can always enjoy it elsewhere. To be serious though, if the OP dislikes dubstep enough he shouldn't buy games with dubstep in the soundtrack.

That way if enough people hate it and avoid games that have it the developers might stop using it.

I don't know if you know this but it already has as Skrillex has been doing the soundtrack for the upcoming Syndicate. (Ninja'd it seems)

But on matters of good dubstep, it gaming has always been hand in hand really. There pretty much isn't a gaming song that hasn't got a dubstep remix and the zelda ones are becoming increasing good.

As much as I don't like this type of dubstep, this is made of pure, liquid win from concentrate. I haven't laughed this hard in front of my computer in a good while.

And this is what kids listen to these days? And people still hate rap music? Color me confused .
Heavens, no !
This is what CERTAIN PEOPLE (including myself) listen to. Dubstep, Grime, Aggro & stuff aren't mainstream, never were, never will be. It's just one of countless genres that emerge, become somewhat famous and then dissolve into nothingness. :)

Oh, and some example...
<youtube=lSeHbtZzXGw>
woah there tiger, if you're under the impression that dubstep isn't extremely mainstream, then you're most horribly wrong. At least here in Australia, it is played on the radio all the time and if there's someone who hasn't heard of Skrillex, Rusko, Borgore and the like then they've been living under some sort of rock.

OT: I think dubstep as a classification of genre is far too wide for this topic. I mean, dubstep is quite literally an evolution of the two step genre, which is just two beats. So any song that goes dum tss dum tss at that particular tempo is technically dubstep. I think someone above me linked Rock N Roll by Skrillex, which is not a good example because it's a different tempo.

What I'm trying to say is, that stoner dubstep which is all about wobbles and bass lines is completely different to the 'brostep' that Skrillex and Zomboy and the like make.

Both stoner dubstep and brostep and everything inbetween would fit into games, as long as it fits the tone.

Ok, I will admit that my earlier post was a bit ragefilled, so I will attempt to explain myself in a more reasoned fashion.

First of all, I do not hate dubstep because it is popular; I loath it as it caused my ears physical agony to listen to. I honestly think nails on a chalk board is a more appealing sound than what is produced by dubstep "arists."

Secondly, one person claimed that it can take months or years to learn the art of mixing songs. I'm sure it does, if you're becoming a DJ, but dubstep is the mutiliation of an original artists piece of music into something that is just LOUD, OFFENSIVE NOISE. It is the music equivalent of walking up to a person, screaming in their face for five minutes before slapping them in the side of the head then stabbing nails into their eardrums.

Finally, I know I have rather eclectic tastes in music, and it is spread across a wide set of genres including pop. As I stated, I do not hate it because it's popular or it doesn't match up with my tastes; it is an offense to my senses. I dislike a lot of genres, including rap or heavy metal, but at least they are genres of MUSIC. Dubstep simply sounds like a mashup of the most ear-rending sounds that could be electronically generated, for ignorant twats too full of themselves to blast from their cars, iPods or speakers at its full, window-shaking, bass-booming, rythym-retarded terribleness. Yes, I know that is not a word, but you like dubstep. You point is invalid.

Ok, that really wasn't much better than my last post was it...

Dubstep isn't mainstream, never was, never will be.
Despite being highly popular in some circles it won't find its place in collective consciousness. After two or three decades its fanbase and scene will diminish and fade away. There's nothing miraculous in this. Plenty of genres came and went just like that.

Proof ? I rarely meet people who know what Dubstep is. 90% of them when asked about artists/bands start with Skrillex. Some stop at this point.

So no. I don't think so. No mainstream for the Dub. :)

"Brostep", however, is all about Wobble Bass, and it's mostly thanks to Skrillex that this subgenre has become popular.
I don't like Skrillex too much, he uses vocals almost always and I personally prefer that kind of music when it's "instrumental". Still, he is a fucking amazing person and one of the most modest people in the industry. I mean, seriously, the guy announced his latest EP with a message on his facebook page saying "happy holidays just like I promised.... just like i always say, go pirate it if you don't have money..i just want you to have it." It's a miracle that no record label has hired a hitman to whack him yet.
Even if he does look like a total dork...this is your messiah wubstep kiddies!

...Yeah... I'm not the one for looks, but he's a total joke. Shaved long hair, and fat rimmed glasses is not a good look at all in my personal opinion, and it boggles the mind how he presents himself like that in the musical spotlight.

Though, as they say, it's only the music that counts... am I right? Shame that I don't really like it that much.
Hmm. Calling people who like different things than you "kiddies", calling dj's "messiahs", judging people from the way they look... You seem to be upset, foaming at the mouth mad. You should calm down, it's not good for your blood pressure.

I agree with you.
ok, i don't listen to Dubsteb. in fact i hate it. dubsteb makes me angry >.< . BUT i feel like dubstep doesn't fit in most games and anime.
and it's not like i say this because i hate Dubstep. i don't like Death metal or very heavy metal in games or anime either, unless it fits the the game. (I love Death metal). i just don't think that dubsteb fits games or anime.

I'm not particularly fond of Dubstep. I have noticed it is being more popular in stuff like Tv Shows and game trailers. I just hate how everyone jumps on the wagon when something 'hip' comes along. Dubstep annoys me most of the time. I guess we just have wait until the next trend.

Even that's not dubstep my friend, besides that 32 bar variation.

Well, the use of dubstep depends on the context. If it's in a high fantasy game, most certainly not, but if it's in a sports, racing or gangster sandbox, I wouldn't mind it. And also, the game's context changes what song is used.

Alright it's two songs stuck together, but you get the idea

Are you serious?
Every kid and their dog listens to wubstep.
I'm not sure why they do, but they do.
Deadly serious.

I hear that in SSX, the dubstep synchs up with the gameplay, so that when you have heavy drops on the mountain, you get heavy drops in the music.

I don't like dubstep, but it is the most amusing kind of shit music.

Hmmmm? This website has also had a thread on peeing in the shower, has hosted a user review of a bowel movement and gotten a pretty good hate-brigade on Dead Horse Interchange. What's so disgraceful about dubstep?

Why has no one called this person out?

Listen to that song again. You hear that? It's called a Four to the Floor beat. Dubstep doesn't have that. Considering it's throughout the majority of the song, it's no longer dubstep. This is HOUSE, specifically of the Fidget variety. Now that 30 seconds in the middle is pretty much dubstep, but the rest is pure house.

Learn your genres guys, just because Skrillex made it doesn't mean it's Dubstep.

edit: Damn, ninja'd

This thread is summarised as "I dislike dubstep so it should never EVER be involved in anything else I like."

Really? Fucking really? I don't complain when there is generic metal in yet another action scene in a game, which is every time but some people enjoy that so it's fine because it's catering to it's audience.

Also, the Firefall trailer involves a little dubstep, so it's already on it's way.

I expect this to devolve into nothing but OPINIONS = FACTS, seriously, people like different things so there needs to be something to cater for everyone within everything. Shut the fuck up about it now.

For those who say they don't like dubstep as you may have heard it, try these. They are more melodic ones but still dubstep.

I know a lot of you think dubstep is only like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFu2DfPDGeU but it's not
