Its about time. XP is getting to the point where its out of date. More games need to do this.

tbh i'm all for this. people who are still running on XP are holding everybody else back in a sense. At least if JC2 is running off DX10 pc games will start to look as good as the console versions of it.

that being said, i don't think my PC would run smoothly enough for me to enjoy it, so i might have to get it on PS3

Big deal i know xp was a good OS but you can't expect it to be supported forever. And it's not like it's the first game to require dx10 ever.

Wait, people still use Windows XP?

I was lucky enough to try Vista well after the bugs got worked out. And XP became a steaming dog turd.

Now that I'm on 7, Vista is a dog turd, but at least it's not steaming.

Also, if I am correct the XBOX 360 does not use DirectX 10.
I think it is DX9.

So this would make even less sense.

I bet the company thought vista and windows 7 would be everywhere by now, make sense cause they started making this game like 3 -4 years ago ( just a logical guess on my part)

but w/e i still run windows xp cause its simple and i use my ps3/xbox to play games.

Well okay, I guess people will upgarde to Windows 7 sooner rather than later and this is as good a method as any to forc....I mean convince people to do that. And really, while it does suck on a very basic level, people are harder to fuck over after the absolute joke of an OS that was Vista and the sad atempts to make gamers is particular upgrade to a system that was esentially in Beta state at best and nerve stressing gimmick at worst.

I'm going to have to go with "What's Just Cause 2?" and "What's Just Cause in the first place?", followed by "Has this game had any marketing at all?" and finish it off with a "Why do they think anyone cares about them cutting off half of their market with a game that most people haven't even heard about?".

Basically, I don't really care. I'll upgrade to W7 eventually, but this isn't the game to get me to switch.

Bet Razor1911 will "fix" this some days after release
Unless he wants to re-program the entire engine, I doubt it. dx9 and dx10/dx11 are completely different.
Well, they did "fix" it for Halo 2 when it was released on the PC. Just because something "requires" DX10 doesn't mean it's actually built around it. It can just as well be an artificially imposed limitation without any actual backing in the game's programming. If JC2 is such a case remains to be seen.

If my memory serves, the 360 uses something halfway between DX9 and DX10...

Honestly? It's about damn time, Windows XP is 9 years old, and with Windows 7 out, you can avoid the train wreck that is Vista. With DirectX 11 on it's way, XP is quickly becoming obsolete, it makes sense to phase it out.

I think its perfectly fair to do this right now, and makes the most sense from a programming perspective to produce new games. Its like people complaining about a lack of Windows 98 support on a game designed for Windows XP(Same number of OS steps back, counting ME as the bastard upgrade to 98). The upgrades happen, and sometimes they have to be pushed a bit when said system most people run is 2 OS steps behind, with inferior graphics capability.

That's a bold move indeed. I sense another petition/boycott coming!
Not nearly as bold as doing it with Halo 2. I don't really mind, especially since Windows 7 apparently is actually good. That said I wish games would have farther backwards-compatibility.

Hope you PC gamers out there haven't been having too much fun watching all the spectacular trailers for Just Cause 2 [http://www.justcause.com], because it's DirectX 10 only, which means it won't run under Windows XP.
Really? That's funny.

If I remember correctly the creators of Crysis said that the game could only run on very high visual setting on Vista since DirectX 9 did not support all of the game's features. And then sometime after it was released someone tweaked the game files that allowed the user to use the very high visual even if he was using a XP thus rendering the developers claims that the game's features did not run fully on DirectX 9 complete bull.

Something smells fishy here.....
not quite dx.10 allowed per object motion blur rather than a screen based one
very high was locked because any card older than a 8800GTX would never handle those settings since few people running XP would bother buying the worlds first Dx.10 card
