Someone once said to me if you can't say it without swearing, then you don't know how to say it.

Cursing isn't part of a vocabulary, because it's only use is a vocalization of frustration or anger. Like when you watch the Jimquisition here on The Escapist, and he gets the rage shakes and just repeats "fuck" seven or eight times as a sentence. I find this more annoying than say, Yahtzee, who while arguably the most foul-mouthed person on this site, at least approaches it with some creativity and for comic effect, instead of just acting like a fourteen year old throwing a temper tantrum. My brother swears like this, and it is as agonizing to put up with as scraping a razor over my own teeth.

Oh who the fuck gives a shit about this kind of mother-fucking bullshit?
It's obviously a MASSIVE over-reaction on Notch's part, it's just the 'fcuk' word, may as well have said rough sex, in fact, in this fucked-up logic that would be 100 times better because it doesn't involve 4 letters stringed together to mean what rough sex does, (more or less on the definition here)

If you find swear words offensive, get over it and chill the fuck out.

No need to swear near the kiddies. Do you people swear at your parents just because they know what swears are?

If you say yes then you should put soap in your mouth.
Yes, and my parents swear too. And I resent that you seem to think you should be able to dictate in such a condescending manner what I and my parents say to each other.

Totalbiscuit's word on the current situation.

I have to agree with him for the most part. Though the ones he speaks of with their metaphorical pitchforks, those who need to hear this the most, are probably deaf to it.

All a lot of fuss over not much at all if you ask me.

Go to any primary or secondary school in the world and you'll hear a lot worse than that.

Hell, play on Xbox Live for 3 minutes, younger people saying worse things more frequently, mixed in with violence too.
You speaks za truth. So much truth, yes.

Anyway, it's just another word in our already huge vocabulary. One little F-Bomb won't make your child want to murder and molest.

I resent that you think you can dictate what I dictate. Monarchy doesn't work like that, sorry. Now go get some soap before your tongue is stained.

I hope you don't swear to your future children.

anyone actually see his twitter (notchs) where he slags the yogcast of for several posts...now did anyone else notice his liberal use of swears? because if he is getting all up in arms about swearing in front of kids maybe, just maybe he should think about what he posts on one of the most popular social networking sites....just my thoughts on the matter

Well then... be offended.

But seriously, I went on internet at a very early age and I don't have any problems with people playing idiots on the web or trying to troll. I am a 'chick' and I do not get offended when someone chats about 'banging chicks' (god knows 'chicks' can talk about a lot of stupid crap, we are just not as open about it as you guys). I don't know about gay/lesbian community though.

And to be honest, do you really think that kids that got their hands on minecraft (internet download only on some obscure site that is advertised BY the youtube trends) AND then went on to LAS VEGAS for minecon are not exposed to swearing already? They can probably cuss better then notch himself. Stop trying to pretend that you want to protect children by wrapping them in wool at this point. It is bloody Las Vegas, people don't go their to eat ice cream after a Sunday mass with the whole family.

I don't see a problem with his reaction. Minecraft is a pretty kid friendly game, I think that part of its designs was on purpose. Makes sense Notch would want to keep his convention kid friendly too.
Yes people usually hold child friendly conventions at Sin City. Scumbag Notch.
Mmm, yes. I lived in Las Vegas for a couple years, and aside from the strip (a very small part of the city) Las Vegas is mostly inhabited by normal people with normal jobs who occasionally have *gasp of shock!* children.

Believe it or not.
But but but it's LAS VEGAS! Gambling and prostitution are legal there and stuff so obviously it must be a wretched hive of scum and villainy, right? I saw The Hangover and CSI so obviously I know more about it than you! I mean, if we can't justify our arrogant opinions using our thinly-veiled cultural prejudices, then what can we use? *childish pout*

You using "that's gay" to describe things that are merely pathetic rather than of a same-sex screwing thing... that is homophobic.
Why has the black culture transformed the n-word into something that does not carry the old pejorative meaning but we can't take the homophobic out of "gay"?

I don't get mankind at all.
Except white people don't go around calling each other "******" for doing something they think is pathetic. And by the way, if they did, they'd get a hell of a lot more flak than they do right now for using "gay" that way.

My feelings about censorship, like my feelings about the concept of "community," people who say "n-word" instead of "******," and now apparently my feelings about Notch, can be summed up in three words: Fuck. That. Shit.
Wait... "the concept of 'community'"? Now I'm curious what you mean by that. Judging by your attitude, I'm pretty sure it doesn't mean what it sounded like to me.

This may seem way off the topic...

What is Yogcast?
. They are 2 British gamers who got famous for their Minecraft series, but started out doing Wow tutorials. They are genuinely pretty funny...( More so that most main-Stream comidians today) Personally I find it hard to believe that they would write "Fuck off" on somebody's autograph... but Hey.

Queer, on the other hand has always been pejorative, though arguably the gay community changed that with chants like "we're here, we're queer. Get used to it!"

Not sure how true it is, almost certainly exaggerated to some degree. Might want to edit it into the OP.
err, i think the OP may be bullshitting us. He may be confusing "insulted people" with "general cussing"

Because they are NOT THE SAME.

You can swear without insulting, you can insult without swearing. For example, if I said you were a "liar and charlatan with tiny genitalia", that would be insulting but not a single swear word used. or you can say "Holy shit, you are a bad ************ defeating that boss in 5 minutes".

Considering the Yogscast said "The F-Bomb" (Oh no?) and yet Notch jokes about having sex with Simon's mother and masturbation in Yogscast's "Notch Minecon" interview. I think the pot is calling the kettle black here.

notch and simon and lewis are the quintessential man-child, yogscast are totally unprepared and incapable of dealing with the audience they have and act like the vulgar people on the internet around them

none of this is news to anyone who's been on youtube, the pretentious petty squabbling, is probably due to notch being over sensitive about his creation and how yogscast wanted paying for the trip over to him.

neither yogscast or notch truly earned their fame, and they do all act like spoiled divas
it's a definite case of the pot calling the kettle black and
the current twitter rubbish is just an exercise in being childish and hypocritical

Anyway, Notch probably reacted this way to save face and not be associated with people who swear in front of children.
Probably because most gay people don't go around saying "that's gay", where as 90% of the current population that says ******/nigga is black.
The use of these terms by black people started with the gangster rap movement (At least, that's when it blew up), because a lot of rappers felt the need to show that nobody can really get to them, even if they do call them niggers. At least, that's what one of the members of the NWA described it as, and they are the NWA.

And honestly, I don't see gay people starting a gangster movement to bring back the word gay to show that you can't fuck with them.
Especially since gay is the common term for homosexuals, where ****** is NOT the common term for black people.

Seriously? THAT is what that drama shit was about? By the way he talked I thought someone had, completely unprovoked and out of the blue, called someone a fag... But seriously, all of that because someone said "fuck"?

It's a word. Fuck off and grow up Notch.

<quote=Direct from Notch's Twitter>Yogscast repeatedly insulted people, talked behind their backs, refused to cooperate, and acted like total spoiled divas nonstop

They called us "a bunch of nerds who don't know how to run a company", demanded that we pay them to come here (nobody else got paid).

And they claim they're the reason minecraft is big and that we should thank them more than anyone else in the community. They're total dicks

A kid wanted them to sign something I had signed, and they said they'd cross it out and put "fuck you" there instead.

Everyone else in the Minecraft community is all about respecting and caring. They're not. They're an isolated island of egos.

Sounds like Yogscast are acting like gits.
