I can tell you what's going to happen:

It's going to be a straight up flop.

Why the hell does everyone feel the need to make a sequel of a game that honestly doesn't really need one? Just leave well enough alone :(

If they do this, they should do it the exact same way Minecraft was released:

i.e., selling "beta" versions before it is complete, in order to finance the development. Worked well once, I can imagine it would work again.
To be honest, I doubt it would. Having a linear, story based game being buggy as hell results in a bad time for all. Minecraft only got away with it's bugs because due to the nature of the game you were never obstructed from advancing or having fun.

OT: Should probably be good! Played Costume Quest recently, as Schafer's still got the good humour going on, so I'm looking forward to this.

The Atari 2600 came out in 77.
Pffft...it was the VCS in the 70s. 2600 after 82.

Still, you'd be struggling to find much more than Combat in the 70s, especially in 4k. Space Invaders didn't arrive til the 80s.

This game needed a sequal more then Call of Duty or Modern Warfare. Not only did it leave off on a cliff hanger, but it had a lot of potential for psychodelic mind buggery.I played through the original years ago, and was dissapointed that they never tried to continue.

I really liked Psychonauts, so it would be awesome if this happened. Kind of wishing someone would do the same with a sequel for vampires the masquerade bloodlines.

Up until this point, I had been rather ambivalent on Notch, due to my disinterest in Minecraft.

I would now be completely willing to give him my third child.

He sure does like the attention doesn't he. But he seems like a genuinely good natured person.

Out of sheer interest, I'll be getting this game in a discount or a demo first, but I never played Psychonauts so I can't say I'll get it's apparent sequel.

I know Psychonauts gets a lot of love in certain circles, and I appreciate its weird sense of humor (what I've seen of it, anyway), but I've tried to get into it several times and just can't do it. The combination of the awkward control/perspective scheme and the lack of clear direction in certain areas meant that I was falling to my doom (and thus having to repeat sections many times over) while trying to get to places I wasn't even certain would lead to progress in the level. Something like Prince of Persia feels positively hand-holding by contrast, spiked death-traps and all.

I'd be happy to see another Psychonauts just to have another entry into the market that wasn't a cookie-cutter retread of a stagnant franchise, but if it happens, I really hope the essential game mechanics are a little friendlier.

Well there wasnt much to offer, but there was some. Space war, Space invaders, Asteroids, Galaxian,(No wonder I want more space combat games now). None the less, it wasnt much, but its more than you might think , and it was mostly in arcades.

Psychonauts 2 does have a possibility to still be a unique game, the end of the first one shows that things were going to be different for every character.

Why?
You might want to add some content to your post so you don't get reported and banned by the mods. :p

Just saying that arcade-wise, you'd be very lucky to play anything other than Invaders - and that was late 78.

Bison, what do you have to say about this?

But seriously. I literally just finished Psychonauts yesterday for the first time. And this is everything that I've ever dreamed of. (The purist in me is grumbling about Notch keeping his filthy hands off development.)

This is part of the reason why Schaffers games do not do all that well, and part of the reason why the game industry is not one with "rock stars" Video game creation is a collaborative effort, and works best when it is created that way. Relying on one individual as a mouthpeice rarely turns out well. It doesnt work with Peter Molyneaux, It doesnt work with Cliffy B, and Honestly, Schaffer is no exception. It doesnt even work with Notch and minecraft About the only time you see it work, is when the name and the person behind the name are no longer the same thing such as Sid Meier and Civilization.
Idk, seems to work out well for Shigeru Miyamoto. (I kid. Sorta.)

I agree that the game wasn't perfect. The difficulty spike was weird and the freaking Meat Circus is going to stay in my nightmares for a few months to come. But I thought the gameplay was far from "terrible". And as far as storytelling in gaming and gaming as art goes, it's unmatched by any game I've ever played before.

What about the gameplay did you hate so much?
